Patient *complaining about how the surgery went bad and I ended up leaving a scalpel inside his peritoneum*
Me, his surgeon: I understand why you feel that way, I must have been so dumb, what is it about leaving a scalpel inside your peritoneum that is bad?. [Negative Assertion + Negative Inquiery].

most examples in this book are within a system where the consequencses are not that much impeding in the life scale, but when it comes to arguing with your boss to convince him to change your schedule, if you keep repeating yourself with the broken you will find your self out of the door and out of that job! I would love to see a more updated version of this book and its methodology which can be more applicable to the world we are living in today.

I found chapters 1-8 to be very helpful and informative. Reading this book has really helped me noticed how people can try to manipulate you into doing things you don't want to.

However, I found the rest of the book to be repetitive. I'd recommend familiarizing yourself with the assertive rights section and the chapters on methods you can use to assert yourself. The rest of the book is just filler.

And like many other reviewers have pointed out, the author is very misogynistic. If the book didn't have so much helpful information on it I'd never recommend it.

Doctor Smith introduces a few techniques to teach the reader to be more assertive with its life and on daily situations. These are probably the best things that one can learn from this book.

The book starts by saying for whom the book is written for: people that struggles on asserting themselves or feel guilty about it. Right after it works on this guilty feeling and why it happens, but it is short.

The the rest of the book is about the techniques and its usage in different situations: on relationships with friends, partners, on work with supervisors or people that answers for you. There is a lot of dialogues and they are much valuable as they bring a lot of examples.

I hope I have read this book several years ago. Until now I realize that I have been so unnecessarily non-assertive for so many times, and I have right to do a lot of things that I don’t believe I could and just upset myself for nothing.
The book provided great points and a lot of dialog of practices. Most of the dialogue may not need to read in details, they are just good for get better idea of the concepts.

Game changer

I didn’t think I’d like this book when I first started reading it but it received good reviews so I pressed on. The language can be a bit laden and heavy at times and I’m sure it it was edited and published today it would be broken down with more subheadings.

However, having finished this book I can now see how effective Systematic Assertive Therapy will be for myself and many others. It’s a very clear and simple approach but will definitely take repeated practice to really internalise naturally.

Worth every penny if you’re feeling guilty and frustrated in your communications with other people!

This book, as the author concludes in the end, can be replacement for therapy. This isn't a book that will solve chronic mental illnesses, but it really will help you stop from feeling guilty when you say no! I walked away with so many coping mechanisms. I preach them to everyone who could use them. This was a life changing read. I am no more assertive because of this book.

Algunha cousa aprendín e algunha outra fíxome pensar sobre cal era a miña maneira de funcionar, pero supoño que non é o que esperaba e fíxoseme bastante tedioso. Acabeino por poñelo en audiolibro

Kilka praktycznych metod (wraz z przykładowymi rozmowami) radzenia sobie z manipulacją i nieasertywnymi reakcjami najbliższych (oraz własnymi). Książka stara, ale bardzo aktualna. Warto poczytać, przemyśleć i wdrożyć.

W zasadzie to przydałoby się wrócić do tej lektury jeszcze raz za jakiś czas po polsku, żeby przypomnieć sobie opisane metody.
