Sven Regener is a German musician and writer living in Berlin. In 1982 he recorded his first LP with the band Zatopek and in 1984 he joined Neue Liebe. In 1985 he founded the Berlin band Element of Crime together with Jakob Friderichs. He writes almost all their lyrics as well as playing trumpet.
In 2001 he published his first novel, Berlin Blues (original title Herr Lehmann), which achieved sales of around one million copies. The book takes place in autumn 1989 in Berlin. In 2004, Regener was awarded the Deutscher Filmpreis for the screenplay to the film of the same name (best screenplay that has been turned into a film).
His second novel, Neue Vahr Süd, was released in 2004 and follows the life of Frank Lehmann while serving in the Bundeswehr in 1980 in Bremen. In 2008 this was followed by a third novel, Der kleine Bruder (The Little Brother) which dealt with the time between 1980 and 1989.

Reading this book was a bit challenging. It so often seemed to be about nothing yet at the same time was deeply sad. The main character was hard to like at first but then as it went on he became one of the only likable characters in the book. It takes place around the time that the Berlin wall came down so the historical aspect is very interesting but the mindset of the people was depressing. I found it interestingly sad. I guess the title of Berlin Blues is quite fitting in retrospect.

Die Art und Weise, wie dieses Buch geschrieben ist, ist einfach unfassbar einzigartig! Nie hätte ich gedacht, dass mich eine so unkonventionelle Erzählweise derart fesseln könnte. Selbst die Handlung bietet eigentlich nicht viel – und doch wollte ich immer weiter lesen. Der trockenste Humor den ich bisher gelesen habe und trotzdem sickert zwischen den Zeilen eine Tiefe, die man nicht erwartet hätte.

Sehr nett Buch! Am Anfang ist der Schreibstil ein bisschen schwer, aber nachdem ich habe verstanden alle die Sätze sind der Strom der Gedanken von Frank Lehmann, waren sie leichter zu verstehen. Auch habe der Film mir geholfen, das Buch zu verstehen, obwohl ich finde das Buch viel besser. Sehr philosophische Text, ich bin nicht sicher ob Herr Lehmann ist recht oder nicht, das der ist nicht Sowas wie Lebenssinne oder nicht. Das ist wirklich noch der Gefühle in Berlin, dass man nichts außer Spaß muss.

Dieses Buch ist ein Gefühl!
Im Vordergrund spielen sich ‚Belanglosigkeiten’ ab, die das Leben halt so parat hat. Im Hintergrund fällt mal eben die Mauer…

Entretenido, algún toque de humor, pero finaliza sin cerrar ninguna trama. Historia de un trienteañero camarero que trabaja en un bar, en la Berlín de drogas y justo antes de la caída del muro

Zuerst erinnerte mich die Serie an Gerhard Henschels "Martin Schlosser" Serie - ich hatte schon vor, nach den obligatorischen ersten dreißig Seiten aufzugeben und was anderes zu lesen.
Dann zog mich Herr Lehmann aber in seinen Bann, denn anders als Schlosser hat er ein Leben und Charakter. Die anderen drei Bände der Trilogie hauen in die gleiche Kerbe und ich lese sie alle gern!
