لم تكن من المفضلات ولكنها بالوقت ذاته لم تكن سيئة، في قصة حصار لشبونة والويلات التي ذاقها المسلمون من الصليبين والبرتغاليين، نقرأ جزء من تاريخ تلك المدينة العريقة التي كان يوماً ما إسلامية من خلال قصة " المصحح " الذي تولى مهمة كتابة الحكاية ونلاحظ هنا أن ساراماغو يطرح احتمالية تزوير التاريخ ! من خلال التعديل والتبديل بالكلمات فقط ! .

أزعجني بالرواية تداخل الحوارات دون تمييز، ذكرني هذا برواية العمى ولكن الفرق في العمى كنت أرى هذا الوضع داعم للحبكة والأحداث أما هنا فقد كانت صفة سلبية .

تُقرأ لا بأس بها .

ماذا بعد القراءة ؟
لم يخلق الله شرًا محضاً وجعل سبحانه وتعالى حتى في أشد أنواع الشر رحمةً وخيرًا كثيراً.

Σαραμάγκου στις καλές του.

У своїй любові до книг Жозе Сарамаго я зізнавалася вже не раз. Читати його тексти — це насолода якогось особливого й вишуканого ґатунку. Сарамагівський стиль письма неможливо ні з чим сплутати. Довжелезні речення, ще довші, часом кількасторінкові, абзаци, відсутність розділових знаків при прямій мові, неймовірна гра слів, їх звучань та значень — усе це змушує не пробігати текстом, зчитуючи лише вершки для розуміння фабули, а буквально занурюватися у нього. Тож коли у вас немає часу чи можливості забути про все на світі хоча б на півгодини — книгу відкладіть. Або ж змиріться з тим, що, випірнувши з тексту, озиратиметесь і гарячково намагатиметеся пригадати, де ви й куди прямуєте, — саме таке трапилося зі мною кілька разів)))

У романі "Історія облоги Лісабона" — цілих дві повноцінні історії. Навіть три, якщо окремо порахувати історичну книгу, над якою на початку твору працює головний герой — коректор. На її прикладі Сарамаго показує, наскільки відносними є наші знання з історії. Бо навіть свідчення очевидців ніколи не покажуть об’єктивної черговості подій та реальних причиннєво-наслідкових зв’язків, що вже говорити про письмові, писані-переписані, згадки, на які зазвичай і спирається сучасна історіографія. Саме отаким "переписанням" історії і вийшло те, що вчинив коректор, додавши заперечну частку "не" у текст редагованої ним книги. За що, власне, і "поплатився" — однак не таким чином, як можна було б подумати)))

Наслідком цього "хуліганства" стала альтернативна історія облоги Лісабона, яку начебто пише наш головний герой, однак у читача складається враження, що він просто фіксує події, котрі відбуваються самі по собі. Можливо, саме так і з’являються на світ книги, яким віриш? Бо те, що розповів у своєму рукописі коректор, сприймалося мною не менш реально, як і власне його життєва історія — основна фабульна лінія роману.

Головний герой — така собі звичайна сіра людина, яка нічим не вирізняється з натовпу, проживає непомітне життя, виконує рутинну роботу, яку теж не помічають більшість людей. Однак коли читачеві вдається зазирнути у внутрішній світ цього середньостатистичного чоловіка середніх років, відбувається певна метаморфоза. Ні, не з героєм — із читачем, який раптово розуміє, скільки важливого, цікавого й прекрасного може ховатися за позірною звичайністю і сірістю. Навіть — чи й особливо! — тоді, коли сірим і звичайним читач вважає самого себе...

Ще один головний герой є у романі — Лісабон. Прекрасне місто, прогулятися яким запрошує Сарамаго. Обожнюю відчуття, коли, читаючи книгу, ти наче насправді прогулюєшся вулицями, які описує автор, спускаєшся крутими східцями, видираєшся на пагорби, зазираєш у вітрини, насолоджуєшся кавою чи вином, милуєшся старовинними будівлями, слухаєш дзвони, мокнеш під дощем, видивляєшся щось у тумані... Хоч бери, й сміливо позначай на карті Лісабон як місто, у якому вже побувала)))

Ну, й іще один величезний плюс саме цього роману Сарамаго: фінал. Давно я не почувалася такою упевненою в тому, що все у житті буде не просто добре, а — чудово! Чого і вам щиро бажаю)))

In the glowing light of the day and in the rosy spirit of the present calendar week (romance in the air...) I am overwhelmed with positive emotions and declare my ever-growing admiration and respect towards the great Portuguese writer José Saramago (1922-2010) and his golden legacy in terms of his well-known controversial, challenging, and thought-provoking novels.
I am completely and irrevocably absorbed into his works. I am jumping like a mosquito from one book to another, in a very ambitious attempt to read as much as possible, but of course I am not able to because I feel I am not grasping as much as I need in this frenzy and hectic pace, so I take one step or even two back and start anew.
I think I even firmly established my aim when reading Jose Saramago which is: to rediscover the importance and beauty of questioning; to refresh my personal writing style to the level of being able to communicate (verbally and in written) using a vocabulary that is full of savor and rhythm, as if it were not something outside the language, but intrinsic. This is a language like an uninterrupted flow, like a river, a large mass of water that slips heavy, shining, with fast forward rhythm, even if, occasionally, its course is interrupted by cataracts. I have no fear whatsoever (although pragmatically I fear water because of lack of swimming skills) to get immersed fully in this best prose (in my mind’s eyes) and to disappear there for a few days, weeks, months...maybe couple of years

This work is a pocket of 342 pages but is paved by the density of the text. Saramago is stingy with paragraphs; if there are many dialogues, they are never presented with hyphens and are always in a single section. The interventions of successive speakers are best separated by periods and capitals.
A challenge for the reader? Less than it initially appears. The difficulty is only getting used to a different presentation—rather than a way of practicing your cognitive flexibility.
The novel's starting point is an experienced proofreader who has always acted with outstanding professionalism. However, he decides to change a word in the historical story he is editing, and one word can change history.
We will have plenty of reflection on the work of the proofreader and the writer, on historical documentation, within additional touches of humor that make you smile, and even the poetry of a love story. And, of course, there is Lisbon, when it falls into the hands of those Lusitanians who will become the Portuguese.
An exciting and informative read!

Una città sotto assedio è l'attrazione reciproca tra due persone solo apparentemente diverse. La nascita di una nazione è la lenta ma inevitabile scoperta di un amore; i cittadini troveranno nella nuova patria l'identità che gli amanti sperano di costruire con la loro unione. Il coraggio di un modesto esercito che prosegue nell'assalto nonostante la delusione di un importante aiuto negato è la saggezza di un uomo che abbandona le finzioni, i vizi e le paure di chi non può più sentirsi giovane per poter finalmente essere apprezzato e amato per le verità che lo compongono, i difetti, le differenze che lo rendono unico. E' così che questo libro ci insegna ad essere umili in amore, e coraggiosi negli assedi; a saper far crollare le mura che separano le persone, poveri soldati ed eruditi revisori, raffinate dirigenti di case editrici e concubine al seguito di nobili crociati tedeschi. Come gli assedi e le battaglie militari, i sentimenti devono essere amministrati con saggezza e pazienza, misurando la portata di tutti i gesti, le tattiche e le armi che portano alla conquista della città che è già destinata a diventare la propria capitale; alla conoscenza di una persona verso cui, nonostante gli inutili tentativi di ignorare questi pensieri, intimamente già si sperimentano le parole che potranno farla sorridere e voltare, con mille dubbi e altrettante speranze. E come nella guerra i sopravvissuti sono uomini fragili quanto i morti abbandonati sul campo e nelle fosse comuni, così i sentimenti con i loro vincitori e vinti sono esclusivamente umani, e le divinità in questi affari sono inutili proprio come, da sempre, le immaginiamo.

I am no fan of Saramago (I tried to read Blindness and it was so devastating that I don't think I made it more than 20 pages), but a novel about proofreaders! Ahh!! An entire novel by a well-respected writer about the totally weird and nichey world in which I spend all my time?? Ahhh!!!

In college I would usually name Saramago as my favorite novelist. His incredibly inventive premises, his books-crossing rumination on the way the flow of time becomes the static representations of history, his dark but gentle representations of the folly of human planning and human ambition.... I find that I have not read one of his books since before his death, somehow, but I'll fix that soon.

I will start by saying that Saramago's signature style is present in full force here - extreme indifference to ordinary rules about sentence and paragraph breaks, leading to vast chunks of texts that look more imposing than they really are. It may not be everyone's thing.

I am not sure that this is a better book than the gorgeous and moving The Stone Raft (though I am confident that both are better than the usual nomination for his best book, Blindness), but I am sure that this is the one that I would recommend to a first time reader. The plot, as you have probably noticed from the main listing here on Goodreads, is about a proofreader tasked with editing a book about the Siege of Lisbon in the Second Crusade, which reclaimed the city from Moorish control. A seemingly passionless middle aged man, an impulsive act of historical vandalism on his part changes the arc of history and his own life, as he suddenly discovers his agency and, to his own surprise, his capacity to love. If you told me a young author had come up with this conceit, I would be very skeptical that it would be pulled off, but it's just beautifully realized here. The intertwining timelines deftly illustrate Saramago's points about history, especially what may be the most consistent lesson in all of his books, the dignity and importance of normal people. It's a beauty, a gem.

I love everything Jose Saramago writes, and this was no exception. While I prefer the novels from his historical cycle (like Baltasar and Blimunda), this was very enjoyable and masterfully written as well. Reminiscent a bit of Umberto Eco's playfulness around recreated manuscripts, it poses some smart questions about what history means and how it is written, how truth is crafted, and so on.

Este infelizmente terá de ser um DNF, tentei, juro que tentei.
Tinha como leitura obrigatória para o terceiro ano da licenciatura este livro e na altura por falta de tempo fiquei estagnada na página 90, apesar de não ter parado por não estar a gostar, também não fiquei muito preocupada já que este livro não estava a conseguir agarrar-me.
Mesmo assim decidi que não queria desistir da leitura sem dar uma segunda oportunidade e foi o que fiz, continuei a leitura. Infelizmente não consigo gostar da escrita de José Saramago, para mim é um tormento ler um livro onde não existe variedade de pontuação, quase não existem parágrafos, os diálogos estão todos seguidos e são unicamente identificáveis através de expressões como "... Até amanhã, disse a doutora Maria Sara..."(p.165).
Mas temos de admitir que a história em si é bastante interessante e muito curiosa para um revisor de texto, como eu, ou para um editor, já que podemos compreender o que acontece quando no decorrer de uma revisão, o profissional comete um erro, intencional ou não.

العمل يتراوح بين عالمين: عالم رايموندو سيلبا(الواقع)، وعالم حصار لشبونة الحقيقي والمزيف، كلمة واحدة (لا) غيرت مسار حياة رايموندو سيلبا وساقت له احتمالات جديدة لم يكن يتخيلها!
العمل ممتع وفلسفة ساراماغو مشوّقة وحواراته لذيذة، لكنه استطرد في مواضع كثيرة أصابتني بالملل.

الترجمة لابأس بها، على الرغم من وجود الكثير من الأخطاء

احتاج قليل من الوقت حتي أستطيع ان اعبر عن أفكاري ، لكن ف المجمل الروايه غنيه بوفرة بأفكار وأسلوب ساراماجو


من بين اعداء الحقيقة - القناعات - فهى اخطر من الاكاذيب .. نيتشه .

هناك فرق بين - السبب - في اقتناع الانسان بفكرة ، وبين - السبب - في كون هذه الفكره صحيحة أم خاطئة ، و قد يغلب على اقتناع الانسان بفكرة ما مجرد مصدرها ، الا ان مصدر الفكرة ليس في الاغلب دليلاً على كونها حق لا ينال منه شك .

الشك والارتياب في المعتقدات وضع شاق جداً للعقل البشري لا يتحمله طويلا ، ويلزمه عندئذٍ الاختيار ، فيختار ويفضل أن يخطىء على ان لا يؤمن - جان جاك روسو .
و اختار رايموندو سيلفا الارتياب ، وكانت النتيجة رحلة ممتعة ومرهقة داخل عقله مع خلفية لحكايات من تاريخ البرتغال والمسلمين في اوروبا .. وكما هى عادة ساراماجو فقد كان تواجد عنصري المرأة والحب هما السند والدعم للقيام بتلك الرحلة .

انها دعوة مفتوحه للشك ، ودعوة مفتوحة للحياة .
