A remarkable first part (out of three) that hints at a very high-level space opera, and then... the disaster.

The ideas are absurd, the construction is clumsy, the descriptions are tiresome, the characters are exasperating; the contradictions are legion and the pretension is immense. A nightmare.

If I had known, I would have stopped at The Fall of Hyperion, when Dan Simmons still had all his wits (or almost).

It's truly a pity that what started with such promise took such a nosedive. The initial part had so much potential, with its captivating setting and the possibility of an epic space adventure. But as the story progressed, it all fell apart. The lack of coherence in the ideas, the poor structuring, and the unappealing characters made it a real struggle to get through. It's a disappointment for fans who were hoping for a great space opera to rival the best in the genre. Maybe Dan Simmons had a different vision that didn't quite translate onto the page, but whatever the reason, this is not the masterpiece that it could have been.

Endymion's Awakening Part 2

And here we go. The various participants are in position, and it's a showdown between the Pax (the religion), the Mercantilus (commerce), the invisible technocentre (artificial intelligences), the extros (adapted humans), and...Aenea, the prophet.

This is a very interesting and quite exciting read. Even though the story has some disruptions in the rhythm and the author seems to wander a bit, which has slightly affected my reading pleasure. In my opinion, the novel would have benefited from trimming some parts and focusing more on the main story. But that's just my view. Here, we find more action than in the previous part, and the issues are laid out and dealt with. However, being very analytical, some points annoyed me: a heroine modeled after Jesus with incredible powers, magical thinking (the reading void, the cruciform, an organic Kardashev 2 civilization, etc.), the gritche now behaving like a protective puppy, a deus ex machina ending, and a tacked-on epilogue to please.

I really liked it, but a bit more fluidity would have made me love it even more.

I gave the same score to both parts since it's actually one novel split into two by the French publisher.

Overall, it's a captivating read with its own set of strengths and weaknesses. The complex web of characters and their interactions keeps the reader engaged, but the flaws in the narrative structure do leave some room for improvement. Nevertheless, it's a worthwhile addition to any science fiction lover's collection.

The frustration!

I have had more of a desire to love this book than I actually did. Perhaps it is the disappointment compared to the incredibly amazing Hyperion cycle? Here, the author seems to have plenty of ideas (about religion and its perversions as opposed to beliefs, the bonds that unite us, etc.), a boundless imagination (we travel through an incredible number of planets, we encounter a whole bunch of characters, and his space story has little to envy to Asimov's). But the whole is too fussy, and not all the characters work as they should. As if the author had put out all his ideas to get them out of his head but without arranging them correctly. The final "revelation" is also extremely predictable. Frustrating...

It's a pity because there are so many interesting elements in this book. The concepts about religion and the exploration of different planets are quite captivating. However, the execution falls short. The overly complicated plot and the inconsistent characters make it difficult to fully engage with the story. It feels like the author was trying to do too much at once and ended up sacrificing the overall coherence and enjoyment of the reading experience.

Despite its flaws, I still appreciate the author's creativity and ambition. Maybe with a bit more refinement and better organization, this could have been a truly great book. But as it stands, it leaves me with a sense of frustration and unfulfilled potential.

Another flood of ideas, new environments (the Star Tree is among the more interesting ones), and the gradual explanation of some lines that were intertwined in the previous four books.

Some things are predictable (who actually "lied" or whose child is the main heroine), some things will remain blurred (with many previous theories), and some things end up being way too crazy for my taste (actually the whole central line).

Nevertheless, it was again entertaining until the end. This is really a work worthy of Simmons...

Overall, the story continues to engage and surprise, with a rich tapestry of elements that keep the reader hooked. The new concepts and settings add depth and excitement, while the resolution of certain plot points provides a sense of closure.

Although there are some aspects that may not fully satisfy everyone's preferences, Simmons' writing style and ability to create a vivid and immersive world make this a worthwhile read.

Whether you're a fan of the previous books or new to the series, this installment offers plenty to enjoy and explore.

Just finished this amazing saga,

feeling so empty inside. It's as if a part of my soul has been taken away. The story was so captivating, filled with twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat.

I became completely immersed in the lives of the characters, experiencing their joys and sorrows along with them.

Now that it's over, I find myself longing for more. I can't help but wonder what will happen to the characters next.

Will they find happiness and fulfillment? Or will they face new challenges and obstacles?

This saga has truly left a lasting impression on me, and I know that I will be thinking about it for a long time to come.

It has reminded me of the power of a good story to transport us to another world and make us feel emotions that we never thought possible.

I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to experience this amazing journey, and I can't wait to discover more great sagas in the future.
