Bradbury is best known for his novel Fahrenheit 451 (1953) and his short-story collections The Martian Chronicles (1950), The Illustrated Man (1951), and The October Country (1955). Other notable works include the coming of age novel Dandelion Wine (1957), the dark fantasy Something Wicked This Way Comes (1962) and the fictionalized memoir Green Shadows, White Whale (1992). He also wrote and consulted on screenplays and television scripts, including Moby Dick and It Came from Outer Space. Bradbury also wrote poetry which has been published in several collections, such as They Have Not Seen the Stars (2001).
The New York Times called Bradbury "An author whose fanciful imagination, poetic prose, and mature understanding of human character have won him an international reputation" and "the writer most responsible for bringing modern science fiction into the literary mainstream".

I got this book to add to my tiny graphic novel collection. It has my absolute favorite Ray Bradbury story in it. However, I found I was put off by the art somewhat. It's not that I haven't seen the substitution of poor proportion for actual mood before, I have. It's become too common. I would have liked to see a different artist who could portray mood and the beauty of horror, if I may use such a phrase. I'm not certain who that would be. Parts of the art were still acceptable for me. I would give this a three star, except that it is Bradbury, and my favorite story, and so I am keeping it in the house.

My sister told me this story when I was six or seven. I loved it and thought she'd made it up herself. Then she tried to tell me about the Donner party before my mom broke it up, saying she'd feed my sister to the Donner party if she didn't stop scaring the shit out of me. My sister didn't make up this story, but it's still wonderful, beautifully enhanced by Dave McKean's flowing, darkly earthy work.

I read this for my English class and it was quite fun to read. At first I was confused by the types of characters that were being described, but then I quickly understood what type of family this was and it made more sense. It's sad that Timothy felt the way he did in his own family, but I'm glad his mother and uncle were supportive.

McKean was as much born to illustrate Bradbury as he was Gaiman. Beautiful book. I loved the story, but felt nagged throughout by the style of the writing - it didn't seem quite right to me. Sure enough, upon comparison it looks like this version has been adapted and changed from what I assume is the original version in The October Country. Why isn't that mentioned anywhere? What was the reason? I like this new version. It's a little darker, if that's possible - more painterly and abstract. Just curious as to how and why this was allowed.

This edition of Bradbury’s classic short story is just as much a visual feast as a lingual one, with illustrations by the always-amazing Dave McKean, who lends his whimsical , dark, strange, otherworldly dreams to Ray’s nightshade tale. A must read for both fans of both artists and for anyone who loves the perfect blend of words and visuals. 10/10 read!
