Night of the Living Dead was released in 1968. This novelisation came out in 1974. They then released an officially sanctioned remake of the film in 1990, which is presumably why the cover of this book that I saw claimed it was the inspiration for the movie and not the other way round.
Anyway, it’s largely a completely pointless cashgrab (though less so when you remember that home media wouldn’t exist for another 10 years or so). But it absolutely works for what it is.
Obviously the film is the superior version of the story, but you could do a lot worse than this and, now that I’ve read it, I can move on to the sequel, Return of the Living Dead.
6.5/10
