Esta história é completamente diferente das narrativas que Isabelle Allende nos habituou. Não se trata de uma saga familiar. Mas de uma triologia de aventuras.

É a expedição de Alexander e sua avó no Amazonas, juntamente com um arqueólogo, um médico, o guia e a sua filha Nádia. A amizade que forma-se entre Alexander e Nádia faz com que se crie uma energia mística. Em que os dois possuem espíritos de animais o jaguar e a águia.

A missão é destruir a Besta, um homem monstruoso que vive na selva. Contarão com a ajuda do Povo Oculto.


Gostei muito deste começo. Adorei os protagonistas. E deliciei-me principalmente com as descrições sobre os animais, os índios e toda a cultura indígena

Me gustó mucho el libro, una lectura muy amena, lo recomiendo mucho, un libro de aventuras y enseñanza, dónde se ve que los personajes cambian mucho en poco tiempo y las experiencias pueden venir en momentos menos esperados.

Recuerdo haberlo leído con 13 o 14 años y me encantó. Esa atmósfera de realismo mágico me sorprendió y si lo mezclas con una trama de aventuras con dos adolescentes pues no se puede pedir mucho más para un chaval que apenas había leído mucho más. Tal vez una relectura ahora bajaría la puntuación pero me quedo con el buen recuerdo.

عرفت اسم الرواية من خلال موقف ساخر في فيلم السفارة في العمارة للفنان عادل إمام. وكان الموقف يدور في بيت أسرة من الشيوعيين الذين يحاربون ويكافحون لأجل المساواة بين الأغنياء والفقراء.
سأل عادل إمام شاب مشغول بكتاب في يده: ماذا تقرأ؟ فأجابه بطريقة كوميدية تناسب الفيلم: "مدينة البهائم".
كنت أظن أن مدينة البهائم كتابا، ولم أكن أعرف أنها رواية، و ظننت أن الكتاب بالتأكيد يدور عن الفقراء والأغنياء وصراعاتهم الطبقية، وخمنت أن مدينة البهائم هذه هي مدينة الأغنياء، وخمنت أكثر و توقعت أنها قد تكون مثل رواية مزرعة الحيوانات ل"جورج أرويل".
قرأت الرواية متوقعا أن أقرأ ما خمنته أو أفضل منه قليلا، ولكن يا للعجب!!!! لقد قرأت واحدة من أروع ما قرأت في حياتي من الروايات _ وأنا مقل في قراءة الروايات ونادرا ما تعجبني واحدة .
الرواية كلما خطوت في صفحاتها بعض الخطوات أجدني غير قادر علي العودة، و أجدني أزداد شوقا للإستمرار في المتابعة!!! لم يكن التشويق وحده هو العامل المسئول عن هذه الحالة التي انتابتني تجاه الرواية، بل إن موضوعها المدهش و أسلوب المؤلفه و فلسفتها كانت أسباب متضافرة علي ابقائي حبيس صفحاتها والتي زادت عن مائتي وسبعين صفحة.
تبدأ الرواية في بيت بالولايات المتحدة الأمريكية، الأم اكتشف الجميع فجأة أنها مصابة بالسرطان و أنها ستحجز في مصحة للعلاج وأن الجميع سيتفرقون، وكان من نصيب بطل هذه الرواية (الكسندر / الكس) أن يذهب كي يعيش مع جدته الصارمة غريبة الأطوار، فيسافر إليها وحيدا ويعاني للوصول إليها، وعند الوصول يعرف منها أنها ذاهبة في رحلة استكشافية إلي غابات الأمازون كي تكتب تقريرا لصالح مجلة "ناشيونال جيوغرافيك" المشهورة في العالم كله، وكانت ترافق بعثة من العلماء تحت الحراسة.
قامت "ناشيونال جيوغرافيك"بتمويل الرحلة لبحث عن قبيلة مجهولة في الأمازون تسكن مدينة أسطورية، وتسكن قريبا منها حيوان خرافي شاعت عنه الأخبار وعرف بين المستكشفين باسم "البهيمة"، ومنه أخذت الرواية اسمها.
يسافر اليكس مع جدته إلي غابات الأمازون وتبدأ الكاتبة وبعبقرية فذة في تصوير الحياة البكر في الغابات فتقرأ وكأنك تشاهد الغابات بنفسك، حتي أنك تقرأ الصفحات وعندما تتوقف تشعر وكأنك قد عدت من سفر حقيقي.
للكاتبة نفس روح "باولو كويلهو" _ وهي لاتينية مثله _ في روايته الشهيرة "الخيميائي"، فكلاهما _ الروايتان _ تتضمنان رحلة سفر طويلة للبحث عن شيء، الأولي في الصحاري، والأخري في الغابات.
تعرض اليكس ورفيقة تعرف إليها للاختطاف من قبل أبناء الضباب (قبيلة مجهولة في الأمازون) وينتقل للعيش معهم مدة يتعرف فيها علي أسرار الحياة الحقيقة التي خلق لها الإنسان، حياة تخلو من تعقيدات العالم المتقدم، حياة تخلو من أمراض العصر الحديث الأخلاقية والنفسية والبدنية.
في هذه الرحلة ينشغل أليكسندر بالبحث عن ذاته و عن علاج لمرض أمه الذي وجده فعلا في الغابات .. لدي قبائل الأمازون البدائيين.
تعرضت الرواية لبعض الوقائع التي حدثت في إبادة الهنود نتيجة الفساد، حيث يغزو غاباتهم المغامرون ورجالالأعمال والباحثين عن ثروات الأمازون، وقد أبيدت قبائل بأكملها بسبب جشع كل هؤلاء.
من شخصيات الرواية رجل الأعمال الاستغلالي الذي قرر أن يتفق مع الطبيبة المسئولة عن تحصين الهنود الحمر ضد الأمراض علي أن يبدل التطعيمات الواقية بفيروسات مسببة للمرض، وينكشف الأمر وينكشف ما هو أدهي .. فقد حدث من نفس الطبيبة هذا الأمر أكثر من مرة وأبيدت فيها قبائل بالمئات ظل موتهم لغزا أمام الحكومة.
الرواية تعرضت لمعتقدات البدائيين وحياتهم بعظيم الاحترام، لولا نقصي و عدم قدرتي الجيدة علي التعبير لكتبت فيها شعرا، ولو كنت اقدر أن اكتب خيرا مما كتبت لفعلت. لكن يكفي من سيقرأها أن يكون عالما بأنه لن يضيع وقته في قراءة شيء غير مفيد.

Hahahahah only took me a year. Well I finally finished this! Okay first full book I read in Spanish and honestly I’m proud of my improvement, because the first 30 pages I felt like I had to look up every word I didn’t understand in order to read the story. But, I soon realized I only had to look up words that were necessary to understanding the meaning of a sentence, meaning I could infer what some words meant based on context clues. Now I can read much faster in Spanish and I am starting to enjoy it more.

Some reviews I write, like this one, you will only really get if you read the book. So I will preface this review with a mini-summary and opinion blurb that you will get if you didn’t read the book. This will help you better understand the rest of the review.

So this book was about protagonist Alex. Alex is a teenager who lives in the United States with his parents, his sisters, and a dog named Poncho. Alex likes to play the flute. When his mom gets cancer, Alex is sent on an expedition with his grandmother Kate Cold. Kate is a reporter for National Geographic and her and her crew are sent to the Amazon to document the mythical beasts that supposedly live there. Kate brings Alex along with her, and her team includes an anthropologist, a guide with a daughter named Nadia, and some others. Together they go on an adventure to find and take pictures of the beasts, so they can write about them in National Geographic. However, some members of their expedition have other plans. Additionally Alex becalmed friends with Nadia, and the two partially join a Native tribe and become alliances with them.

Now onto the real review!! Okay so I gave this book a 3, not because it was in Spanish and therefore harder to read, but because it wasn’t my favorite genre. I like the adventure of the plot, but there were a lot of battles with details that I just felt were unnecessary.

Also I don’t think having the book start with Alex and his family was necessary. Like having the story begin with Alex and his life with his parents, siblings, and dog Poncho, while building characterization, made the actual story seem more like a dream or something. The story should have just started with Alex in Manaus instead of detailing his whole other life, and his trip to Manaus.

What made me rate this book higher was Alex’s friendship with Nadia!! I like romance books but it has been a while since I read a book with a strong friendship and I think more books need two characters who are just friends and the book is centered around that. Because friendship is a big part of life and isn’t depicted as much in books as romantic relationships are. Alex and Nadia cared for each other and I loved the chapters where they just talked and went on adventures together, like their trip to get the crystal eggs.

Another positive is the plot twist with Omayra Torres. This got me excited near the end of the book. Also the random plot twists with other characters like Capitán Ariosto, were well done. Who doesn’t love a plot twist, let alone a book with multiple plot twists :).

And unfortunately, another negative was the whole spirit animal part of the plot with Jaguar and Anguilla. I like fantasy but I more like Dystopian fantasy like Six of Crows. I don’t enjoy fantasy that is extremely mythical like fairies, witches, and stuff, so I didn’t love the whole spirit animal side plot.

My final negative (sorry to end on a bad note) was the repetitive nature of the plot. Half the story detailed the characters waking up and cooking meals and going back to sleep. Some days there was no adventure and while this may have been used to make the battles stand out more, it was kind of boring and repetitive. I felt I didn’t need all the details of what the characters ate and their day to day lives in order to understand them.

Overall this book had a nice closure in the end, with Alex maturing and realizing he should protect the people of the mist. Yet while the strong friendship, crazy plot twists and engaging adventure made this book fun, it was the overly fantastical elements, unnecessary start, and repetitive and excessive details that bright this book to a 3 star for me.

La Sra Allende es seguidora del Realismo Mágico y me asustaba empezar a leerla, pero como me regalaron dos libros de la "Trilogía del águila y el jaguar", pues me dije: "a intentarlo"

Y son aventuras y fantasía de adolescentes (hoy sería YA) pero muy bien narrados. Aventuras en selva y parajes extraños con animales/tribus perdidas y maravillas de las de fantasía clásica (no tolkeniana, ¿eh?). Este libro, en el Amazonas

This story is not engaging me. It is meandering along and going nowhere very fast.

Honestly, this book sucked. Majorly. Giving it two stars was generous, to say the least.
The beginning was boring beyond belief. I had to read this for school, and my class and I begged the teacher to let us read another one. It had no interest for us, no appeal. I hated the grandmother, didn't know what to think of the main character, and was bored out of my mind by the language. When the main character was swimming with the dolphins, the story basically went, 'I was having so much fun. It was the best day of my life.', and then boom, on to the next boring-as-crap thing. I had to wonder if something was lost in the translation... The first half of the book had a snails pace, just prolonging our torture.
The second half of the book picked up a LITTLE! It had a bit more magic and fantasy, a bit more interesting stuff going on. But I was still prevented from even beginning to enjoy this book because of the lack of descriptive language.
I just hated this book. I would never in a billion years recommend it to anyone but my worst enemy. Maybe not even then.

Kate Cold, journalist-reporter for International Geographic in the Amazon, trains her grandson, Alexander, whose mother has cancer. Professor Leblanc, the famous anthropologist, is also hired by International Geographic. The search for a mysterious creature that the Indians call "the Beast" is the goal of their trip. Two photographers, a guide and his daughter, Nadia, a doctor and an Indian, are also part of the expedition. These are adventures worthy of Tolkien's tales that Alexander and Nadia will experience.
Isabel Allende depicts a lush Amazonia in which perils are multiple. She underlines the danger represented by the exploitation of dishonest men who only want to enrich themselves to the detriment of the native Indians.

طبعا تبقى بعض عناوين الكتب راسخة في أذهاننا بسبب ارتباطها بمشهد كوميدي أو درامي في فيلم أو مسرحية، و خير مثال على ذلك ارتباط " مقدمة ابن خلدون " بالمشهد الكوميدي الخالد في رائعة مسرحية مدرسة المشاغبين، و كذلك ارتباط " الحب في زمن الكوليرا " رائعة غابريال غارسيا ماركيز بذلك المشهد الكوميدي في فيلم " السفارة في العمارة " . و هذا عنوان آخر ارتبط بمشهد كوميدي في نفس الفيلم و لطالما شغل تفكيري هذا العنوان " مدينة البهائم " و قد تخيلت أن هذا الكتاب عبارة عن دستوبيا لشخص مثقف في مدينة يعمها الجهل، ثم تخيلت محتوى آخر لهذا الكتاب فقلت ربما هو يتحدث عن الإشتراكيين و نظرتهم إلى العالم الرأسمالي.

رواية جملة تستحق القراءة بالفعل و خاصة لمن يعشقون أجواء المغامرات و سحر الوصف الممزوج بالأساطير .

Esta es la historia de Alex, un chico de 15 años al cual su madre está muy enferma por lo que se ve obligado a ir donde su excéntrica abuela con la cual se embarca en una gran aventura al amazonas en busca de una bestia, donde tendrá que superar grandes dificultades y cumplir una misión.

Pienso que ha sido un libro que vale bastante la pena, aunque no ha sido uno de mis favoritos.
La ciudad de las bestias fue el primer libro que publico Isabel allende dirigido al público joven y creo que resultó bastante bien. Es un libro de aventura, interesante y hasta adictiva, con personajes bien estructurados y emotivos.
Este libro lo tuve que leer por el colegio y estoy segura que me gustó mucho más de lo que me ha gustado alguno sugerido por el colegio. He tenido la oportunidad de leer otros libros de esta gran autora y no me han gustado demasiado, pero este en comparación con los demás creo que ha sido el que más me ha gustado entre todos ellos. Es uno de los pocos libros que he disfrutado de verdad de los enviados por el colegio.

Isabel allende se caracteriza según mi opinión en una cosa; abusar de la intervención del autor. Si, los detalles son importantes, al igual la narración del autor, pero creo que, aunque la historia sea creada por el autor quienes tienen la voz en las letras son los personajes y cuando sus intervenciones son demasiado minoritarias se pierde la cercanía con los personajes haciendo que uno no sienta la realidad de ellos. Aunque como anteriormente dije, hubo mucha intervención del autor cosa que personalmente no me agrada tanto, pero cabe recalcar que esto permite adentrarse mucho más en el lugar físico de la historia cosa que con detalles innecesarios, hay muchas veces que menos es más y el exceso de texto puede arruinar el mensaje.
Aunque es medianamente largo de manera innecesaria en mi opinión, es muy fácil de leer, en 2 o 3 días ya estaba por completarlo, aunque en muchas ocasiones me dieron ganas de abandonarlo por la razón dadas anteriormente.

Según mi opinión creo que la historia de los personajes estuvo muy bien desarrollada, ya que a pesar de tener como protagonistas a Nadia y Alex los demás no fueron meros acompañantes, sino que se destacaran sus personalidades y su evolución a través de la historia, cosa que muchas veces ignoran por no ser el "principal".

Esta historia está llena de moralejas, cada capítulo destaca algo muy importante, desde el poder que tiene la amistad, la diferencia de la apariencia y la realidad, además del racismo sin justificación. Esta historia nos hace meditar en lo que muchas veces sin darnos cuenta erramos. Los mensajes más destacables de este libro creo que son el respeto y el amor hacia la naturaleza, además creo que es necesario destacar que me quedó la impresión o la idea que también se dejó entender que hay veces que los niños pueden entender mucho más que algunas veces los adultos, que pueden ver “magia” donde muchas veces los adultos solo ven algo ordinario.

Me encantó como Alexander maduró entre el principio y el final de la historia, aunque nunca perdió la esencia de un niño encantador e inocente. No me cansaré de destacar que todos los personajes tuvieron una gran evolución en la historia.
Me encantó la inesperada que se desarrolló la historia, creo que muchas veces es muy difícil de conseguir dar un giro totalmente inesperado o diferente a lo que el lector espera por lo que es muy necesario destacar que Isabel allende lo logró muy bien por lo menos conmigo. En un segundo muchos de los héroes se convirtieron en villanos y muchos que uno creía villanos se convirtieron inesperadamente en héroes. Me quedó muy claro que las apariencias la mayoría de las veces engañan.

Tal ya que la ciudad de las bestias es el primer libro de la trilogía “memorias de águila y jaguar” quedé con la sensación que algo faltaba, tal vez es que el primer libro es más que nada para presentar a los personajes y que en los siguientes libros serán más interesantes.
Como gusto personal creo que el final no me gustó tanto ya que quedaron algunas cosas sin resolverse como lo fue la situación de la madre de Alexander, los finales abiertos no son tanto de mi gusto, pero puede ser que es para dar paso al segundo libro así que este comentario no sé si influye demasiado en mi opinión sobre la obra.

Creo que la conclusión más acertada es que vale la pena leerlo y uno disfruta mucho en el proceso.
