Great cookbook too!

I was looking for something nonfiction to read and this was the perfect book to break my fiction streak. Really interesting information and full of beautifully written anecdotes.

I read this book in Spanish. Allende says in the intro that she began to dream of food as a healing process after her daughter's death. The book is like reading essays on food and its relation to love, romance, and passion. It is beautifully illustrated, witty, and very sensual. At the end of the book, I imagine one would be tempted to try some of her recipes in a sexy atmosphere, rich in flavors, aromas, and sensual seduction. I highly recommend this book only to people who like spicy food and spicy love.

this voluptuous book I've been reading in little bites, as it's much too rich to read all in one sitting. Allende explores the age-old connections between food and sensuality, including many recipes (I haven't tried any yet, but will if a good opportunity arises!). The best part of this volume is the illustrations, especially the numerous paintings by Martin Maddox and George Tooker, which add a kind of glow to the delicious pages. (1/00)

This book is not a biography of Aphrodite. In fact, this book only mentions Aphrodite once in reference to aphrodisiac foods. This is a cumulation of erotic experiences and dreams of the author with discussion of how and what foods are considered aphrodisiacs. There are a few recipes included in the last few chapters, but after reading this, I am not inclined to experiment with them.

Isabel Allende creates magic when she writes. The beauty of how writing style draws you in, makes you feel something deeply and then sends you on your way. Loved this

This book should be banned for people younger than 18; with that said, I read it at 18 and found it grotesque. I enjoyed some of the recipes, and some stories but the rest of the short stories and tales were horrific to me and quite sexual. I found it exaggerated and inordinate. Not my cup of tea.

A kaleidoscope of sensuality! And, as only Allende can do, told with charm and such indulgent language. There’s a reason we have multiple senses and unfortunately most people don’t revel in the heights of what each is capable. May we go through life with our senses alight, heightened, attuned, and rewarded with exquisite experience.

Isabel Allende is an amazing story teller and in this book she puts together amazing recipes, some tales from her life and kind of aphrodisiac tips too. It was a fun and clever way to put together this recipe book, so it stands out. Also, the illustration is superb, the cartoons are fun and a little naughty too.
