This a delightful rarity: a book that celebrates the value, the joy and the agony of work! A chance encounter between two conscientious workmen who are traveling on work assignments, both of them on missions to resolve problems and get the wheels of industry and commerce moving forward. A wonderful rapport develops as they exchange stories with each other and with us. The issues they face are serious enough but their stories sparkle with wit and insight into the perplexities of making a living and keeping the boss off our backs. Time and again I found myself nodding my head, recognizing situations we've all faced at times — e.g. a hilarious account of a boss who interrupts his envoy's work every two hours with a telex demanding a progress report. The book is filled with amusing nuggets about the challenges of working abroad in unfamiliar cultures and the unexpected behavior of people in different workplaces. And the universal existence of human frailty in all its guises. The mother of fools is always pregnant, even in this country!
