The quality was a bit poor either because it was old or due to the place where I read it. However, everything else except for that was perfect. Wow.

It's really amazing how something that seems so small can have such an impact on the overall experience. In this case, the slight瑕疵 in the quality of what I was reading detracted a little from the enjoyment. But still, the fact that everything else was in such a great state is truly remarkable. It makes me appreciate the importance of paying attention to the details.

Whether it's the age of an item or the environment in which we consume something, these factors can all play a role in how we perceive it. I guess this just goes to show that we should always strive for excellence in every aspect, no matter how insignificant it may seem at first glance.

My ranking of the stories is as follows:

First, there is "Headless Statues". This story likely has an air of mystery and perhaps a touch of the supernatural, as the idea of headless statues can be quite eerie.

Second, "The Bee Hive" might offer a different kind of intrigue. Maybe it involves the strange behavior of bees or something unexpected happening around the hive.

Third is "Flesh Coloured Horror". The name itself suggests something truly terrifying and perhaps a bit grotesque.

Fourth, "Long Hair in the Attic" gives the impression of a classic horror element. The attic is often a place associated with secrets and the idea of long hair lurking up there can send shivers down one's spine.

Fifth, "Dying Young" could be a story that explores themes of mortality and the tragedy of a life cut short.

Finally, "Permission" might have a more psychological or suspenseful tone. It makes one wonder what kind of permission is being sought and what the consequences might be. Each of these stories has its own unique charm and potential to captivate the reader.

A collection of horror stories by Junji Ito. Each tale bears the disturbing imprint of the author, who navigates between the horrifyingly supernatural and insanity. However, as in his previous works, one of his favorite themes seems to be beauty as corruption.

The living hair, the deadly beauty, the children living with wasps, the animated sculptures, among several other stories, make this a completely Ito volume.

Junji Ito's unique style of storytelling creates an atmosphere of unease and terror that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. His ability to blend the supernatural with the psychological makes his stories truly captivating.

Whether it's the grotesque imagery or the complex characters, Ito's work always manages to leave a lasting impression. This collection is a must-read for fans of horror and those looking for something truly different.

Oh my gersh that was weird.

It was truly an experience that left me dumbfounded. I couldn't quite put my finger on what exactly made it so strange. Maybe it was the unexpected turn of events or the unusual circumstances surrounding it.

As I look back on it now, I can't help but shake my head in disbelief. It's one of those moments that you know will stay with you forever, no matter how hard you try to forget.

The whole thing had an air of mystery about it, and I found myself constantly trying to make sense of it all. But the more I thought about it, the more confused I became.

Despite its weirdness, there was also a certain charm to it. It was like a puzzle that I couldn't resist trying to solve. And even though I may never fully understand what happened, I'm glad that I had the opportunity to experience it.

Oh my gersh that was weird, but it was also a memorable and fascinating moment in my life.

Junji Ito always surprises with his stories, and this anthology of tales is no exception.

4.5
Tripe, torn flesh, vengeance, and social criticism are perfectly blended thanks to the author's excellent pen.

Each story has something special and unique, which makes this anthology almost an exceptional read from Junji Ito.

My favorite stories were:

- Horror color carne

- Aprobación

- Cabello largo en el ático

This anthology is highly recommended. It offers a diverse range of tales that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The author's ability to create vivid and disturbing imagery is truly remarkable. Whether you're a fan of horror or just looking for something different to read, this anthology is definitely worth checking out. You'll be amazed by the creativity and imagination that Junji Ito brings to each and every story. So, don't hesitate, pick up this anthology and prepare to be scared!

This is a rather chaotic and unsteady collection of stories.

Perhaps, with the exception of the titular "Flesh-colored Horror", everything else seems just a little too forgettable.

The stories lack a cohesive thread or a strong central theme to hold them together.

Some of the plots are convoluted and difficult to follow, while others feel rushed and underdeveloped.

The characters are not particularly memorable either, lacking depth and complexity.

Overall, this collection fails to make a lasting impression and leaves the reader with a sense of dissatisfaction.

It has the potential to be better, but as it stands, it falls short of expectations.

Maybe with some more refinement and a stronger editorial hand, these stories could have been transformed into something more engaging and worthwhile.

As it is, however, it is just another forgettable addition to the genre.

The Basics

This is a compilation of horror one-shots. The titular story revolves around a school teacher who has to handle a troublesome student. This student is not only aggressive and bullies the other children but also has something amiss with his skin, as if it is thinning. The situation takes a much more serious turn when the teacher pays a visit to his home. There are other stories in this collection as well, each with its own unique horror elements and plotlines.

My Thoughts

Overall, I had a good experience reading this collection. It's evident that this was an earlier work in Junji Ito's career. At this stage, he wasn't creating the extremely insane art that one can find in Uzumaki or Tomie. In fact, many of the stories seemed rather ordinary in terms of the art, when compared to his later masterpieces. However, the storytelling itself remained strong. Among the stories, the title tale, "Flesh-Colored Horror", stood out as being quite good. "Dying Young" was another interesting story. It was about a disease that made the unattractive girls at a local school beautiful before ultimately killing them. I saw this as an interesting take on the vampire myth, although some readers might not agree. I felt there were clear parallels and I really liked the originality of it. Additionally, I thought this story was trying to comment on vanity and how it can be destructive, which I appreciated. On the other hand, the weakest story for me was "Beehive". It was a revenge story involving bees, but it just didn't have much impact on me.

This volume had some interesting stories.

The narratives within it managed to capture the reader's attention in various ways.

Particularly, the last few chapters were truly disturbing.

Their content had an intensity that left a lasting impression.

It's important to note that these earlier volumes are definitely Junji Ito at his prime.

His unique style and ability to create atmosphere and tension shine through in these works.

The details in the illustrations and the pacing of the stories all contribute to the overall impact.

While this volume may not have been a perfect 5.0 stars, it still offers a great deal of entertainment and horror for fans of Junji Ito's work.

It serves as a reminder of his talent and the lasting appeal of his stories.

Short story collections have always been a bit of a mixed bag for me, regardless of whether they are in manga format or text format.

The problem is that the stories are often so fleeting. Just as you start to get invested in the characters and the plot, it suddenly comes to an end. Boo!

In this particular collection, I liked most of the stories. However, my overall feeling is similar to that of most other short story collections I've read. I can't help but wish that the stories were longer and more fully developed.

"Beehive" was the one that left me feeling the most indifferent. The other stories, on the other hand, ranged from 3 to 4 stars.

It would be great if the authors could take a bit more time to flesh out the details and really let the readers immerse themselves in the world of each story. Then, perhaps, short story collections would become a real treat for me rather than a somewhat hit or miss experience.

Most stories are dull and lackluster.

However, this collection is worthy of 4 stars solely because of the last story, which even gives its name to the collection.

How can I love his works more? So very much!

The dullness of the majority of the stories might make one initially hesitant.

But as one delves deeper and reaches that final story, it has a certain charm and allure that elevates the entire collection.

It's as if that one story is a hidden gem within a pile of ordinary stones.

The author has managed to create something special with this particular piece, making it stand out and leaving a lasting impression.

It makes me eager to explore more of his works, hoping to discover similar treasures.

Despite the flaws in the other stories, the excellence of the last one is enough to earn this collection a respectable rating.

Junji Ito's works are known for their unique and often disturbing style. While this particular book may not be as polished as some of his others, it still manages to captivate readers. The story unfolds in a series of strange and unexpected ways, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats. Ito's artistry is on full display, with his detailed illustrations adding to the overall atmosphere of the book. Despite its flaws, there is something undeniably charming about Junji Ito's work. His ability to create such vivid and unforgettable characters and settings is truly remarkable. Whether you're a die-hard fan or a newcomer to his work, this book is definitely worth a read.
