As much as I have a deep affection for James Patterson, unfortunately, I simply could not establish a connection with this particular book.

Who is behind the conspiracy turns out to be the twist, but Patterson does do a good job leading you there so that you can figure it out on your own.

This conspiracy is being run by a group of Vietnam vets who seemingly want to take revenge on the country for the poor treatment they received after the war.

The general story is decent although rather far-fetched. Some of the financial aspects are actually quite good.

However, my issue was that the biggest breakthrough in the case emerged out of nowhere with no logical way to arrive at it.

Someone randomly said, "Oh, we should check out Vietnam vets," and it seemed rather random to me for someone to follow up on this by flying to DC and searching through stacks and stacks of paper (in the early 90s when there were minimal computer records).

Overall, the story had its moments but also had some flaws that prevented it from being a truly great read.

James Patterson novels are known for their characteristic short chapters and thoughtful plots, and this one is no exception. The story is highly entertaining and a joy to listen to. Although it's a fairly old recording, it doesn't detract from the overall experience.
