Maybe a young reader might enjoy reading a novel set in the mid-1980s. I don't. At least not of this kind. Perhaps I am judging wrongly or too severely. Certainly, one cannot expect from a similar novel the ability to transcend its time. It would be a great classic and not a supermarket bestseller. Wallowing in the reading of a commercial bestseller is not a sin. The sin is to let it age and be too cynical, devious, and generally disillusioned by the realities experienced in the meantime.

It's not a bad novel, but worse has happened since then. Unfortunately.

I have my own preferences when it comes to reading. I look for something that can touch my heart, make me think deeply, and offer more than just entertainment. This novel, although not terrible, fails to meet my expectations in some aspects. It might have been popular at the time, but it lacks the staying power and depth that I desire in a good book.

However, I also understand that different people have different tastes. What one person loves, another might hate. So, while this novel may not be for me, it could still bring joy and satisfaction to many others. After all, reading is a subjective experience, and everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

Wow! Patterson's coauthor truly makes a significant difference.

Right from the start, this story very quickly gets mired in the intricacies and complexities of its plot. It's like a conspiracy theorist's wildest wet dream. There's a domestic terror plot that is somehow tied to some mysterious foreign bad guys. And the end point remains cryptic and elusive until the real plot is finally revealed almost at the very end.

However, despite the complex and wandering path that the story takes, it just isn't all that interesting. The book reads in a rather cold-blooded manner, much like the conspirators who are eventually exposed to be. It lacks the emotional depth and engaging qualities that would have made it a truly captivating read.

Perhaps with a bit more polish and a stronger focus on character development and emotional resonance, this book could have been a lot better. As it stands, it's a bit of a disappointment, especially considering the high expectations that come with Patterson's name.

Suspense is a powerful tool that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. It adds an element of excitement and anticipation to a story, making it impossible to put down.

A well-crafted suspenseful narrative builds tension gradually, leaving readers guessing what will happen next. It can be achieved through various techniques such as foreshadowing, withholding information, and creating a sense of mystery.

The use of cliffhangers at the end of chapters or sections is also a common way to maintain suspense. This forces readers to continue reading to find out the resolution.

Suspense can be found in many different genres, including mystery, thriller, and horror. It is what makes these types of stories so engaging and thrilling.

Whether it's a classic mystery novel or a modern-day thriller, the element of suspense is what keeps readers coming back for more. It creates a sense of urgency and makes us want to know how the story will end.

In conclusion, suspense is an essential ingredient in any great story. It adds depth, excitement, and keeps readers engaged from beginning to end.

Wait a minute.

It has been extremely difficult to get through this book, as if pulling teeth. One thing I always do is never give up on a book. Just when I was on the verge of putting it down, I happened to come across a segment that suddenly made it worth keeping.

Back to the story... Although this book didn't captivate me as strongly as his other books did, I am still glad that I managed to finish it. What truly impressed me in the end was the realization of how much research he had put into this particular work and all of his previous ones.

He continues to be my favorite thriller author, and currently, I have six of his books waiting for me to read. I look forward to delving into them and experiencing the excitement and mystery that he always manages to create.

I know that with each book, he will take me on a thrilling journey and keep me on the edge of my seat until the very end.

Intransitive 'lay' is a rather interesting and often overlooked aspect of the English language.

It is a verb that has its own unique set of rules and usages. While many people are familiar with the transitive form of 'lay', which requires an object, the intransitive form operates differently.

For example, we might say "The book lay on the table." Here, 'lay' is used intransitively to describe the position or state of the book. It doesn't act upon an object in the same way as the transitive form.

Understanding the intransitive use of 'lay' can enhance our language skills and make our communication more precise. It allows us to describe the placement or resting of things in a more accurate and vivid manner.

So, the next time you come across the word 'lay', take a moment to consider whether it is being used transitively or intransitively. You might be surprised at how much this小小的 distinction can add to the meaning of a sentence.

Just like many other action/adventure novels, this one features a totally gripping narrative. It keeps the reader on the edge of their seat from start to finish, ensuring a fast and satisfying read. The story is filled with excitement, danger, and unexpected twists and turns.

Overall, this novel is a great choice for fans of the action/adventure genre. It has all the elements that make for a thrilling and enjoyable read. With its engaging plot, well-developed characters, and high-stakes action, it earns a solid 4.5 stars.

Great Read

This remarkable book offers a profound and eye-opening exploration into the often overlooked and dark side of politics. It delves deep into the minds and actions of those who are driven by an insatiable thirst for power, willing to do whatever it takes to achieve their goals.

The author's vivid descriptions and detailed accounts bring this shadowy world to life, leaving readers with a sense of both shock and awe. It serves as a powerful reminder of the lengths some individuals will go to in order to gain and maintain power.

On a more positive note, the book also pays tribute to the brave men and women of the police force and our veterans. Their sacrifices and unwavering dedication to protecting and serving our country are truly inspiring.

In conclusion, this book is not only a great read but also a thought-provoking and educational experience. It challenges us to look beyond the surface of politics and appreciate the sacrifices made by those who keep us safe.

I rarely give up on reading a book. However, after reaching the 100th page of this particular book with a choppy beginning, I simply can't bring myself to continue.

It is evident that the book is not organized well. The storyline appears to be a muddled mess right from the start. Based on the reviews here, it seems that other people share the same opinion that the first half is not written well.

Unfortunately, I lack the motivation to power through and reach the supposed "better" half of the book. Normally, I am a huge fan of James Patterson and love his works. But this one just doesn't do it for me.

I had high expectations, but the beginning has been so disappointing that I feel it's not worth my time to continue. Maybe I'll give it another try in the future, but for now, I'm moving on to other books.

I had a really hard time getting into this book.

The references within it seem quite dated, as if they belong to a bygone era.

The plot, on the other hand, appears to be overly complicated, making it difficult to follow at times.

Moreover, reading about finances and the stock market was extremely tiresome.

It felt like a chore rather than an enjoyable experience.

The author might have tried to make the subject matter more engaging, but unfortunately, it fell short for me.

I found myself constantly losing interest and having to force myself to continue reading.

Perhaps if the references were updated and the plot was simplified, it would have been a more enjoyable read.

As it stands, I can't say that I would recommend this book to others.

This book was extremely dated.

The story was merely okay. It seemed as if this was Michael Bennett in his pre-fame days.

The love story felt overly rushed, lacking the depth and development that would have made it engaging.

I truly didn't have any interest in the main character.

Moreover, the book was approximately 100 pages too long. With a total of 450 pages, I would often start to doze off while reading it from time to time.

This is coming from someone who has devoured all the Bennett, WMC, and Alex Cross books.

Based on my experience, this is one book that I would definitely not recommend to others.

It fails to capture the essence and excitement that the other books in the series possess, leaving the reader feeling disappointed and unfulfilled.

Perhaps if it had been shorter and the story more refined, it might have had a better chance of being a worthwhile read.

But as it stands, it falls short in many aspects and is best left on the shelf.

Patterson's work is renowned for its typical speed and non-stop action. This particular piece is no exception. It offers a very good, quick read that is easily consumed. It's the kind of book that you can pick up and enjoy on a train journey, perhaps while looking out at the passing scenery. Or, on a cold, wet night in February, when you're looking for something to warm you up and keep you entertained.

Very good

The story unfolds at a rapid pace, keeping the reader on the edge of their seat from start to finish. There are no dull moments, no lulls in the action. Patterson's writing style is engaging and accessible, making it easy for readers of all levels to get into the story. Whether you're a seasoned Patterson fan or new to his work, this book is sure to please. It's a great choice for anyone looking for a fast-paced, exciting read that will leave them satisfied.
