Maybe a young reader might enjoy reading a novel set in the mid-1980s. I don't. At least not of this kind. Perhaps I am judging wrongly or too severely. Certainly, one cannot expect from a similar novel the ability to transcend its time. It would be a great classic and not a supermarket bestseller. Wallowing in the reading of a commercial bestseller is not a sin. The sin is to let it age and be too cynical, devious, and generally disillusioned by the realities experienced in the meantime. It's not a bad novel, but worse has happened since then. Unfortunately. I have my own preferences when it comes to reading. I look for something that can touch my heart, make me think deeply, and offer more than just entertainment. This novel, although not terrible, fails to meet my expectations in some aspects. It might have been popular at the time, but it lacks the staying power and depth that I desire in a good book. However, I also understand that different people have different tastes. What one person loves, another might hate. So, while this novel may not be for me, it could still bring joy and satisfaction to many others. After all, reading is a subjective experience, and everyone is entitled to their own opinions.
