Spoiler Alert!

This book really sucked. There is a common method that some authors use to extricate their characters from difficult situations they have written them into. And that is to suddenly spring a surprise on the reader. They might say, "Oh you didn't know this, but way back a long time ago, this happened which makes this happen which makes it possible for the hero to escape!"

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! That's just complete bullcrap!

Take the example of the "neat sheet" which is used to wrap a murder victim. It gets blood on it, so we have evidence that the victim was indeed wrapped in the sheet. But then, how do we connect the neat sheet to the murderer? Well, you see, the author conveniently didn't tell us that way back when the murderer first bought the neat sheet, he and his wife went on a picnic and had sex on the sheet, leaving a semen stain.

Gimme a damn break. Oh, how convenient it is!

Or what about character Paul? He turns out to be an evil sociopath who attempts to run down his wife and unborn child. We are talking about someone who is completely heartless and cruel. This guy obviously doesn't care about his wife at all. Well, if that's the case, then why the hell did he risk his life and limb to save her from a different bad guy just 20 pages earlier? Gah! This book was just twisting and turning for the sake of it. It was more like it was writhing in its own inability to be coherent and make sense.

I purchased this book at Walmart after perusing several free chapters from James Patterson on his website.

I feel compelled to share with you my genuine and unadulterated opinion of this book.

"The Quickie" is, in my humble yet firm assessment, truly remarkable and will have you on the edge of your seat, unable to tear yourself away. It is filled with an abundance of twists and turns that keep you constantly guessing and wondering what in the world is going to happen next.

The story revolves around a young NY cop who witnesses her husband emerging from a hotel with another woman and immediately jumps to the conclusion that he is having an affair. Then, when a murder occurs, it appears as if her husband is the culprit. As a result, she goes to great lengths to cover it up.

Now, if I were to disclose any more details about "The Quickie," you might be less inclined to go out and obtain the book for yourself, which is something you really should do. I would rate this book a solid 15 stars. The characters are well-developed, the scenes are vividly描绘, and it all feels so real within the pages of the book.

So, what are you waiting for? NOW GO GET THE BOOK!!

This is the only Patterson book I've ever read.

His writing style is truly uncomplicated, which made it a breeze to get through this read.

The book is filled with numerous twists and turns. However, overall, I discovered it to be highly predictable.

I've always been fond of the concept of a good cop turning bad to safeguard their livelihood. But the husband in this story was just completely excessive.

All in all, I suppose I would be inclined to read more books by Patterson. This is because I can only vaguely recall a dull or a bored moment within this book.

Despite its predictability, there was still something about it that held my attention and made me consider exploring more of his works.

Perhaps future books will offer more surprises and keep me on the edge of my seat.

Only time will tell if Patterson can truly captivate me with his storytelling in other novels.

Short chapters are indeed a great advantage when it comes to reading. They are easy to digest, allowing the reader to quickly move from one part of the story to the next.

In this particular case, the short chapters really enhanced my reading experience. The story had a certain charm that immediately grabbed my attention and got me fully immersed in it.

The author did a great job of keeping the plot engaging and moving forward at a steady pace. Each chapter ended with a bit of a cliffhanger, making me eager to turn the page and find out what happened next.

Overall, I found the book to have an interesting finish. It tied up all the loose ends and left me feeling satisfied. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good story with short, easy-to-read chapters.

Read this because a co-worker offered it and said she would throw it away if I didn't take it. She also said she loved Patterson books and could not stop reading them once she started. I, of course, can never let a book be thrown away, no matter how bad. So I took it and will leave it somewhere to be found, like the back of the airplane seat on my way home.

Well, this was my first Patterson and it did not disappoint - it was as bad as I feared it might be. Each chapter is about 3 - 4 pages long - no exaggeration. I became slightly obsessive about counting the pages for each chapter.

But what about the story? How about a scene? A dead cop's body is removed from a fountain and a red headed cop starts singing Danny Boy - in the rain, while the other cops, even the 'hard' ones, cry freely or barely hold back tears. I mean, I almost lost it - but when another cop notes that even the drug dealers were tearing up when they heard the red headed cop singing Danny Boy? I did lose it - I coughed on my water and nearly broke my face from smirking so hard.

I almost felt guilty about how much scoffing I did in the company of my mind. I couldn't even imagine Hollywood trying to get away with a scene like that. A randomly selected line: "When the sleek black body of the hearse finally slid into view, you could almost hear the lumps forming in thousands of throats." Really? Or maybe: "The fluorescent lights above hummed in my ears like an angry beehive." I know malfunctioning fluorescent lights can hum and buzz, but dem dere is some excited Mercury vapor atoms, ma!

And that's not even the worst of it - the prose is lazy, unimaginative, and awkward - cringe-inducing metaphors bloom everywhere like shrooms on cow patties (yes, I know, I know). But enough of this snark (I feel so dirty) - it's too easy to make fun and I already took too much of a sick pleasure watching his sentences stagger around the page like a punch-drunk boxer (I can't stop!).

To be fairer, as with the fluorescent lights, every once in awhile, he gets kind of close - but he's just too brutish and inelegant to bring the right line to life. And he doesn't stop, like bludgeoning a steel box with a hammer is the best way to open it - and maybe it will open, eventually, if you can't find the key.

What did he do right? Well, it moves, and I suppose at 3 - 4 pages per chapter it's going to move whether you want it to or not - but it moves. The dialogue is familiar and crisp because it's in the movies that get made out of books like this.

And let's be perfectly clear - it's a talent to write as many books as he has and to entertain so many people so...expertly? Unfortunately, in this book, while he hits a narrative stride at the 3/4 point, the last 1/4 is an explosive splattering of merde on the wall. It's not exactly a shock or a thrill when the monkey does it every hour on the hour because a new crowd comes to look into his cage.

I've spent too much time writing about this book - but what can I say, I'm on vacation.

I truly and honestly believed that I wasn't going to have any inclination towards liking this book. I had my doubts and preconceived notions. However, to my great surprise, as I delved deeper into its pages, something magical happened. I found myself completely engrossed and captivated by the story. The characters came alive in my mind, and the plot twists kept me on the edge of my seat. Before I knew it, I was thoroughly enjoying every moment of reading this book. It just goes to show that sometimes, we should never judge a book by its cover or our initial thoughts. This book has proven to be a wonderful discovery, and I'm so glad that I gave it a chance. :)

Expanded Article:

This is a rather simple article. It indeed requires some rewriting and expansion. The original text seems to lack details and depth. By expanding it, we can make it more engaging and informative. I like James Patterson books in most cases.

This one, however, was just okay.

The story involves a woman cop who cheats on her husband and then watches as her husband kills the man she just slept with.

The book moves at a very fast pace. If you blink, you may miss something. But it's easy to catch up because, unlike some of Patterson's series, the stand-alone books are relatively easy to figure out.

For me, this book didn't quite reach the level of excellence that I've come to expect from Patterson. It had its moments, but overall, it was just an average read.

Maybe I was hoping for something more unique or complex in the plot.

Nevertheless, I'll still continue to read his other works, as I believe he has the ability to create truly great stories.

On February 19th, 2008, I received this in the mail as part of a bookray from another online book club that I'm a member of.

I decided to put the remaining 3 books of The Bridesmaid Chronicles on hold until I read this one.

Fast forward to February 21st, 2008. WOW...this has been one of the best mystery/thriller books that I've read in a long time! I could hardly put the book down. In fact, I read it in just 3 days! It was such a real page-turner that I was constantly shocked by the turn of events.

If you're looking for a thrilling read that will keep you on the edge of your seat, then this is the book for you. Get ready to hold on tight to the seat of your pants because this one is a wild ride! WOW!!

It was truly an exciting and engaging experience from start to finish.

The story had me completely hooked, with its twists and turns that kept me guessing.

Every moment was filled with anticipation, wondering what would happen next.

The author did a great job of building tension and maintaining it throughout the narrative.

The characters were well-developed and relatable, adding to the overall appeal of the story.

I found myself completely invested in their fates and emotions.

As the story progressed towards the end, my heart was pounding with excitement.

The conclusion was satisfying and tied up all the loose ends neatly.

It was a great story that I would highly recommend to others.

Overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable read that left me wanting more.
