For years, I've been curious about what all the fuss was regarding James Patterson, yet not curious enough to actually purchase one of his novels. More recently, I've been downloading books through the Overdrive Media app from my local digital library. Since a significant number of his titles were available, I thought, "What the heck? I'll give it a try."

As I browsed through Patterson's extensive collection of books, I noticed that the majority were co-authored with other writers. In this particular case, it was Michael Ledwidge.

Is it just me, or does that seem strange? Are these co-authors actually ghostwriters and Patterson simply slaps his name on the cover, or are these books truly collaborative efforts? I bring this up because I'm uncertain whose writing I'm actually reviewing. Hmm...

Now, onto my notes. Generally speaking, I thought the book was just okay. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either... just average. The chapters are short, and the pace is fast. However, I didn't find much depth in the characters. For example, take the story's protagonist, Lauren Stillwell. Many of the choices she makes are solely to advance the plot, but her motivations were completely unconvincing to me. Good grief, she's a homicide detective who appears to have little to no interest in the book's initial crime. Yes, I understand she's in denial, but...

I'm really trying hard not to give anything away, but let's just say her behavior throughout much of the book wasn't believable, and her supporting cast of characters was rather one-dimensional as well. That being said, I'm sure a lot of people will appreciate the novel's pace, plot twists, and some well-written action scenes. You don't have to contemplate any of life's profound mysteries in this novel. The title says it all. "The Quickie" is a simple, fast read.

If you're a fan of James Patterson, you'll probably enjoy this novel. For me, though, I'll continue my search for reads that have a bit more substance.

Lauren has a suspicion that her husband is being unfaithful. In a fit of anger and a desire for revenge, she has a one-night stand with a workmate who is also a cop.

However, her world takes a drastic turn when she witnesses through a window as her husband brutally beats her lover. To make matters worse, her lover is later found shot dead.

Lauren, now assigned as the detective to the case, finds herself in a difficult position. She tries her best to cover up her own involvement and the events that led to this tragic outcome.

And so begins a thrilling and fanciful story that unfolds at a fast pace. It's almost like an episode of "Days of our Lives," filled with numerous twists and hidden secrets.

As the story progresses, you'll be on the edge of your seat, wondering how it will all end. Will you like the way it is wrapped up? That remains to be seen, as it may or may not meet your expectations. But one thing is for sure, this is a read that will keep you entertained from start to finish.

This is the second time that I have read this particular piece of work, and I must say that I still thoroughly enjoyed it.

It is a very fast-paced book, which makes it a quick read. It showcases all the usual strengths that are characteristic of Patterson's writing. The plot is fast-moving, constantly keeping the reader on the edge of their seat. The characters are strong and well-developed, each with their own unique personalities and motives.

Moreover, the story is filled with twists and turns that keep the reader guessing until the very end. It is a great book that manages to maintain its high level of quality right up to the last chapter.

Overall, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a thrilling and engaging read. It is a testament to Patterson's skill as a writer and is sure to satisfy even the most discerning of readers.

The review blurb extravagantly claimed that this was a thrilling, romantic, and erotic piece. However, someone really ought to hand that reviewer a dictionary. In reality, there is not a shred of romance to be found in this story, let alone any hint of erotic-ness. Moreover, the author of this work seemingly has no clue about how gynecologists actually function.

But perhaps I'm just in a grumpy mood. Let's wait and see how I feel once I reach the end.

UPDATE: Well, I've now read all the way to the conclusion. And if I had borrowed this from the library, I think my annoyance level might have been lower. But I expended both time and money on this incompetent heroine. Despite being an ***experienced homicide detective***, she managed to make Every Single Wrong Choice Possible without ever having A Clear Thought even once.

If she had been a different kind of character, maybe it would have been more forgivable. But Lauren is supposed to solve crimes for a living.

Then again, maybe I'm still just grumpy about the fact that the reviewer clearly did not read the book.

And yet, it's definitely not going to prevent me from reading the next Patterson. :)

I have always had a desire to read a book by James Patterson.

Finally, I got the chance and picked one up. To my surprise, it was quite good. The story was engaging and kept me hooked from start to finish.

However, I couldn't help but notice that it was so incredibly fake. The characters seemed a bit too perfect, and the plot had some holes that were hard to ignore.

Despite this, I still enjoyed the book for what it was. It was a light and entertaining read that didn't require too much thought.

I'm not sure if I'll pick up another James Patterson book in the future, but I'm glad I gave this one a try.

A Stand Alone That Should Not Be Left Alone!!!

Stand alone entities often have a unique charm and significance. They can be a building, a piece of art, or even an idea. However, it is crucial to recognize that these stand alone things should not be left alone.

When we leave a stand alone object or concept unattended, we risk losing its value and potential. For example, a beautiful old building left to decay will eventually crumble and disappear, taking with it the history and memories it holds. Similarly, an innovative idea that is not nurtured and developed will remain just that - an idea.

We should take the time and effort to care for and protect stand alone entities. This could involve preserving a historical building, promoting an artistic creation, or working to bring an idea to fruition. By doing so, we ensure that these stand alone things continue to have a positive impact on our lives and the world around us.

In conclusion, stand alone entities are too important to be left alone. Let us all do our part to ensure their survival and success.

An enjoyably convoluted and twist-ridden tale awaits the reader. It begins with a husband brutally killing his wife's lover, and this is just within the first few pages. The book features the typical characteristics of James Patterson's works - large font, short chapters, quick action, and somewhat weak storytelling and continuity. However, in this particular case, it manages to work well within the context of a policewoman and a world filled with infidelity.

It's one of the few books by James Patterson outside of the Alex Cross series that actually got me eager to turn the pages. I would rate it a 6 out of 12. The story has its flaws, but there's something about it that keeps you engaged. Maybe it's the fast-paced nature or the interesting characters.

All the characters in this book make truly awful decisions.

They seem to lack any sense of judgment or rationality, constantly choosing paths that lead to disaster and chaos.

As a result of these poor decisions, they become supremely unlikable.

It's difficult to have any sympathy for them or to root for their success.

Their actions are often self-centered and thoughtless, causing harm to those around them.

It's as if they are trapped in a cycle of bad choices, unable to break free and make better decisions for themselves and others.

This makes the book a rather frustrating read at times, as we watch the characters repeatedly dig themselves deeper into trouble.

However, it also makes us think about the importance of making good decisions in our own lives and how our choices can have a significant impact on those around us.

Perhaps the author intended to use these unlikable characters as a cautionary tale,提醒读者 the consequences of making bad decisions.

Overall, while the characters in this book may be unlikable, they do serve a purpose in making us reflect on our own decision-making processes.
