After delving into this book, my initial reaction was astonishment. I couldn't help but wonder, "How on earth have I never read a novel penned by James Patterson before?" The answer is simple - this book is an absolute gem. From the very first page, it hooks you and doesn't let go until the very last. The suspense and thrill are palpable throughout, making it an incredibly difficult read to put down. I found myself completely engrossed in the story, and I have every intention of exploring many more of Patterson's works in the future.

The narrative revolves around a woman named Lauren, who stumbles upon a terrifying secret about her husband. To her horror, she discovers that he is not only a cheat but also a murderer. Despite this revelation, Lauren's love for him blinds her, and she resolves to do whatever it takes to keep him out of jail. She goes to great lengths to hide his dark secrets from everyone around them. However, as more and more secrets come to light and pile up around Lauren, she is faced with a difficult choice. Will she save her husband from incarceration, or will she go down with him?

This book is a non-stop action-packed thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. It is, without a doubt, one of the best thrillers I have ever had the pleasure of reading, and I have read my fair share! The plot is filled with unexpected twists and turns at every corner, making it impossible to predict what will happen next. I was so afraid of missing out on something exciting that I simply couldn't put the book down. If you haven't yet had the opportunity to read this masterpiece, I highly recommend that you do so. It is truly, truly excellent.

I had rather given up reading James Patterson - there are just too many series.

However, this is a stand-alone novel and a book club member gave it to me, so I decided to give it a try.

Its title is very evocative of the entire plot. At the beginning, it seems like a sexual "quickie" starts the action, but soon it becomes clear that there have been troubles brewing between homicide detective Lauren (is she the hero?) and her husband.

In fact, the web of ignorance about the true nature of herself and all the other characters is truly phenomenal.

The story is very suspenseful. While I kept wishing she would "just tell the truth," I could also understand her hesitation.

Police officers and detectives constantly have to balance the harsher realities of life with those "wish it was this way" moments, and often it doesn't turn out for the better.

Still, most of them do their best, and Lauren is no exception. But her moment of silence when she should have told the truth leads to some bad things happening.

Thankfully, it's a quick read, so you don't have to slog through a lot of extraneous stuff to find out how it all gets resolved.

And when it does get resolved, there are some surprises that will really take you aback.

Overall, it's a good read that I would recommend to others.

OMG! Truly, people can be so deceptive.

In this wonderful novel, there is no way I could have imagined Paul to be the type of man he turned out to be.

Nor could anyone have guessed correctly the double life of Scott as well as the DA boss.

It just goes to show that we can never really know someone completely.

Life is indeed a quick adventure, irrespective of how anyone lives.

We all have our secrets and hidden sides that only come to light in certain circumstances.

As we journey through life, we encounter various people and experiences that shape us.

Sometimes, these encounters can be unexpected and even shocking.

But it is through these experiences that we learn and grow.

We become more aware of the复杂性 of human nature and the unpredictability of life.

So, let's embrace this adventure called life and be prepared for whatever comes our way.
