The difference between the 2007 James Patterson edition and the 2018 factory edition is like the contrast between white-hot and ice-cold.

In 2007, James Patterson's work was perhaps at its peak, with a certain energy and excitement that captured the hearts of readers. The stories were engaging, the characters vivid, and it seemed as if Patterson could do no wrong.

However, by 2018, the factory edition had a different feel. It might have lacked the same spark and originality. Maybe the formula had become a bit too familiar, and the once white-hot passion had cooled to a more lukewarm temperature.

Nonetheless, it's important to note that both editions still have their merits. The 2007 edition will always hold a special place in the hearts of those who discovered Patterson during that time. And the 2018 factory edition may have its own unique qualities that appeal to a different set of readers.

Overall, the difference between the two editions is significant, but it doesn't necessarily mean that one is better than the other. It all depends on personal preference and what one is looking for in a book. 10 of 10 stars.

This was truly the best suspense book I've read in quite some time.

Right from the very beginning, it hooks you with its captivating plot and doesn't let go until the very end.

The story is filled with numerous twists and turns that build on each other, creating a thrilling and intense reading experience.

It constantly keeps you on the edge of your seat, eagerly wondering how much more the excitement and drama could escalate.

This book is a real page turner, making it impossible to put down once you start.

James Patterson, as always, proves himself to be a master of the suspense genre and never disappoints his readers.

His ability to craft a story that keeps you guessing and on the edge of your seat is truly remarkable.

If you're a fan of suspense novels, this one is definitely a must-read.

Audiobook was one of the worst!

I vividly remember reading this particular book years ago in its paperback form. It was an absolute delight, filled with engaging stories and characters that truly captured my imagination. So, when I decided to give the audiobook version a try, I was quite excited.

However, my experience with the audiobook was far from what I had expected. I found it extremely difficult to get through. The narrator's voice might not have been the right fit for the book, or perhaps the pacing was off. Whatever the reason, it just didn't have the same magic as the paperback. I often found myself losing focus and having to rewind to catch what I had missed.

It was a real disappointment, considering how much I had loved the book in its original format. I guess sometimes, a different medium just doesn't work as well.

Lauren makes a fateful decision to engage in a so-called "fun thing," but for all the wrong motives, and it quickly backfires. Convinced that her husband is having an affair, she decides that revenge is the way to go and acts accordingly. After all, Scott, her colleague, has been lusting after her body, and she's always found him quite attractive. So, why not? Let's count the ways. She soon becomes a witness to a murder, which jeopardizes her career. Then, she discovers that her husband may not be guilty of the affair after all. Meanwhile, the web of lies and cover-ups continues to grow, pulling her closer and closer to the abyss.

Even though she's presented as a tough and smart police detective, clearly setting the stage for future stories, she's not a very likable character. For one thing, she's rather idiotic. She could have easily avoided most of her problems if she had simply confronted them earlier. For another, her moral compass is highly questionable at best. The story progresses quickly and smoothly, but I just couldn't buy the reasoning behind most of her judgment calls. And the outcome always seems to be based on pure serendipity.

In conclusion, while the story has its elements of excitement and intrigue, Lauren's character and the decisions she makes leave a lot to be desired.

A neighbor passed this used paperback to me in the past few months. She had picked it up somewhere. I indulged in this one based solely on the title. I'm shallow like that.

I really loved the short bursts of plot. The short chapters were great too. The reveals were exciting and there were a myriad of lying men that Lauren surrounds herself with. However, I didn't love how long it took for the final reveal. Still, it's a cracking little mystery thriller. You can definitely burn through it in a few afternoons. You can do this while sitting on your zero gravity chair in the shade. Currently, there is no where to go in our area. The second lockdown struggle is real.

I rated it 3 - 3 1/2-ish stars. This is because as I was reading it, I had the feel that I was watching one of those vintage women in peril telefilms. It had that kind of atmosphere and charm. It was an enjoyable read overall, despite the one drawback of the long wait for the final reveal.

The title of this crime novel is bound to capture your attention, and most likely that's precisely why you purchased it initially.

Before you become overly excited, though, it's essential to note that there is no graphic sex described in the book - sorry!

The story is narrated in the first person singular, so it's all about "I did this, then I did that" - you get the idea. This approach definitely works for this tale as it's told entirely from the perspective of the main protagonist, New York City Homicide Detective Lauren Stillwell. You only know what she knows, and as the story unfolds with its twists and turns, you receive the information just as she does, complete with the appropriate surprise, horror, or angst. However, the drawback of this style is that you don't gain much depth into any of the characters other than the narrator, and even that isn't overly in-depth.

The plot is very cleverly constructed, and there are numerous twists and "reveals" that keep you reading at a rapid pace to discover what could possibly occur next. The dialogue is sharp and precisely what you'd anticipate from tough NYC cops - dark humor and sarcastic banter among colleagues being the norm. There are a couple of situations that remain unresolved for quite some time, which I found unrealistic as I couldn't fathom that the affected character wouldn't have dealt with them promptly given their situation - but then again, this is fiction!

My main critique of the book is its presentation. I haven't read James Patterson before, and despite the good plot, if they're all like this, I probably won't read another. It seems as if it was written for semi-literate individuals without much brainpower - the sentences are almost all extremely short and simple. As for the chapter layout - OMG! It's terrible. I do agree that short chapters are beneficial as they keep you engaged and make you read the book faster than you otherwise might, but these are only two or three pages long, which is absurd. This book has 117 chapters! Combined with the relatively large font, the 407-page book could have been condensed significantly. I found this annoying throughout the entire reading experience, and I actually felt quite insulted as a reader. It might be the publisher rather than the authors (it was co-written by Michael Ledwidge) who decided to print it in this way, but whoever it was, it was a mistake in my opinion.

This is a "disposable" read, so I think you'll be able to obtain it very inexpensively in charity shops if you want to read it but don't wish to pay the store price.

I give it three stars, but it would have been three and a half if not for the layout as the story is exciting.

Ma koliko vam se činilo da je Patersonove knjige lako čitati u originalu i da su zasigurno lake za prevedom, on zapravo uopšte nije mačji kašalj kada ga treba prevesti. His language is full of traps, phrasal verbs, jargon and the like. And a little carelessness of the translator, a wrongly understood meaning can lead to a materially very inaccurate translation. This book is excellently translated, but the text of this book has been serving me for years as a test text for translators with whom my team has not previously collaborated. And you won't believe what we got from the translators (and those are graduated philologists), who here could not pass either in terms of knowledge of English or in terms of knowledge of the mother tongue. So don't think lightly about certain writers that they are a piece of cake to translate. :)

If I could give -stars, I would.

This is, by far, the most irritating book I've ever read.

The prose reads like the convoluted script for a very bad Lifetime movie.

There's not one likable character in the whole mess.

The main character is a composite sketch of the worst stereotypes of women.

She's a cop, but the worst crime in the world to her is cheating on her.

She's tops in her career field, yet what she values most is being a submissive wife and mother.

Ugh.

I only hope that there was a very lucrative deal behind James Patterson's slapping his famous name on something this horrible.

It's truly a disappointment that a renowned author's name is associated with such a lackluster piece of work.

The story seems to be a mishmash of tired tropes and unconvincing characterizations.

One would expect more from a writer of Patterson's caliber.

Perhaps he was simply cashing in on his reputation without putting in the necessary effort.

Whatever the reason, this book fails to deliver on almost every front.

It's a waste of time and money for anyone who picks it up.

This book was extremely fast paced, which really managed to keep me fully engaged from start to finish.

However, it wasn't without its flaws. There were a few plot holes here and there, as well as some events that seemed rather infeasible within the context of the story.

Despite these drawbacks, on the whole, it was still an interesting story that held my attention.

The ending, unfortunately, was quite abrupt. It was not at all what I had anticipated, and it left a significant number of questions unanswered.

This left me feeling a bit disappointed, as I had been hoping for a more conclusive and satisfying resolution.

Nonetheless, the overall experience of reading the book was not a total loss, and I would still recommend it to others who enjoy fast-paced and engaging stories, despite its imperfections.

First off, let me state clearly that I am a die-hard James Patterson fan. However, despite this fact, I must admit that this particular book is truly excellent.

It is most definitely a thrilling suspense novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout. I believe that what I like the most about it is the ingenious way in which the story is narrated right from the very beginning of the novel.

It is as if the introduction is presented to you bit by bit in such a unique and captivating format that it hooks you in from the very start.

This book is without a doubt a great and enjoyable work of fiction that is well worth reading.

Whether you are a fan of Patterson or simply a lover of good suspense novels, this one is sure to satisfy your literary cravings.

So, go ahead and pick up a copy, and prepare to be taken on a wild and exciting ride.

That was really quite terrible.

However, it was still easy to read.

Despite its awfulness, the text flowed smoothly enough that one could get through it without too much difficulty.

Perhaps it was the simplicity of the language or the straightforward structure that made it so accessible.

Nonetheless, the overall quality of the piece left much to be desired.

It lacked depth, substance, and any real engaging elements.

Yet, in a strange way, it was almost captivating in its mediocrity.

One couldn't help but wonder what could have been done to improve it and make it a truly great piece of writing.

Maybe with a bit more effort, some better ideas, and a more careful editing process, it could have been transformed into something worthwhile.

As it stands now, though, it's just a mediocre piece that is easy to read but not particularly memorable.
