This book is well worth reading for anyone interested in lucid dreaming.

At least for the first half, it covers the basics and induction techniques in a detailed and accessible way.

The latter part of the book, however, is more anecdotal and offers suggestions of things to try in lucid dreams.

One drawback of the book is that it suffers from repetition, which becomes more noticeable as you progress through it.

Another aspect that is questionable is the spirituality/god stuff. Given how rational the rest of the information is, this seems out of place.

I don't mind spirituality for self-improvement, but when it comes to learning the objective truth of the universe through a dream, I'm not convinced.

Overall, though, it's not a big deal and the book still has some valuable insights and techniques for lucid dreamers.

Full of cool and practical insights on how to be more in tune with/open minded about my dreams.

It truly convinced me to start keeping a dream journal. By jotting down the details of my dreams as soon as I wake up, I can better remember and analyze them. This practice has already helped me notice some recurring themes and symbols.

Moreover, it also encouraged me to be more aware of the little symbols in my dreams. These symbols might hold important meanings and messages that can help me understand myself and my subconscious better.

However, lucid dreaming seems like it requires a lot of extra work. It involves training and techniques to become aware that you are dreaming while you are still asleep. While it sounds fascinating, I’d rather just be resting and observing when I’m snoozing. Maybe one day I’ll give it a try, but for now, I’m content with simply being more in tune with my dreams in a natural way.

I decided that I had a strong desire to learn more about lucid dreaming, but I truly had no clue as to where I should begin. Fortunately for me, I got really lucky because LaBerge seems to be extremely knowledgeable and highly respected when it comes to this particular topic.

The book encompasses a vast amount of information. It details what lucid dreaming actually is, how it can be effectively utilized, provides some useful tips on how to get started with it, and also takes into account other relevant factors.

This is very much like studying lucid dreaming 101 in one single book that is not only easy to read but also simple to follow. I will definitely be reading more of his papers and will continue to follow this author because this reading experience has firmly confirmed my interest in delving deeper and learning even more about lucid dreaming.

It definitely gets my vote as a GoodRead.

This book presents a plethora of remarkable ideas regarding the subject of lucid dreaming. Despite its age, it still managed to captivate my interest. I have a profound love for this topic and am eager to discover how the science has advanced in the present day. However, I am only awarding it 3 stars as it took me some time to truly engage with it. In fact, I initially picked up the book over a year ago, and it has been a gradual process.

I believe that the concepts and theories presented in the book have the potential to be truly enlightening. The author's exploration of lucid dreaming offers a unique perspective that can expand one's understanding of the human mind and consciousness.

Nevertheless, the slow start may be a deterrent for some readers. It required a certain level of patience and perseverance on my part to fully immerse myself in the content.

Overall, while this book may not be a perfect read, it does offer valuable insights into the fascinating world of lucid dreaming. I would recommend it to those who are passionate about this topic and are willing to invest the time to explore its depths.

This is a magnificent book.

It has a philosophical depth that truly astonished me.

It is not only excellent for learning about lucid dreams, their theory and of course their practice.

It is also interesting because of the world of possibilities it opens up for personal development and the many techniques it provides us with to encourage ourselves, even going beyond our always probable laziness to step out of the known.

It offers specific techniques to strengthen our will and our abilities.

A thousand thanks, Professor LaBerge.

This book is a valuable resource that can have a profound impact on our lives.

It challenges us to explore new frontiers and reach for our full potential.

Whether you are interested in lucid dreaming or simply looking for ways to improve yourself, this book is definitely worth reading.

It will inspire you and give you the tools you need to make positive changes in your life.

This book presents a step-by-step approach to learning how to have and utilize lucid dreams. One crucial component is targeting dreamsign categories. These include inner awareness, action, form, or context. You can practice detecting dreamsigns even while awake by养成 examining your day for events that fall under your chosen dreamsign category. For example, if your target category is action, closely study how you, other people, animals, objects, and machines act and move. Once you become familiar with the normal state of things in waking life, you'll be better prepared to notice when something unusual occurs in a dream.

The Afghan Sufi master Hakim Sansi observed 800 years ago: "If you want the mirror to reflect the face, hold it straight and keep it polished bright." To the extent that your thinking is distorted by fear, greed, anger, pride, prejudice, or faulty assumptions, you cannot accurately perceive what is truly reflected in your consciousness. Therefore, assume the best. When you encounter a monster in your lucid dream, sincerely greet it like a long-lost friend, and that is precisely what it will become.

This appears to be a recurring theme: Who we truly are is not necessarily the same as who we believe ourselves to be. The less we identify with our self-perception, the more likely we are to uncover our true selves.

Idries Shah describes our situation in the following story: "The Men and the Butterfly." Once upon a time, on a hot summer's day, two tired men on a long journey arrived at a riverside and stopped to rest. Moments later, the younger man fell asleep, and as the other watched, his mouth opened. Astonishingly, a little creature, seemingly a beautiful miniature butterfly, flew out from between his lips. The insect swooped onto a small island in the river, landed on a flower, and sucked nectar from its cup. It then flew around the tiny domain, which must have seemed enormous to an insect of its size, several times, as if relishing the sunshine and the soft breeze. Soon, it found another of its kind, and the two danced in the air, as if flirting.

The first butterfly settled again on a gently swaying twig and, after a while, joined a mass of large and small insects of various kinds swarming around the carcass of an animal lying in the lush green grass. Several minutes passed. Idly, the wakeful traveler threw a small stone into the water near the little island, and the resulting waves splashed the butterfly. At first, it was almost knocked over, but then, with great difficulty, it shook the droplets from its wings and rose into the air. It flew back towards the sleeper's mouth at top speed. However, the other man now picked up a large leaf and held it in front of his companion's face to see what the little creature would do.

The butterfly repeatedly dashed itself against this obstruction, as if in a panic, while the sleeping man began to writhe and groan. The butterfly's tormentor dropped the leaf, and the creature darted, quick as a flash, into the open mouth. No sooner was it inside than the sleeper shuddered and sat up, wide awake. He told his friend: "I have just had a most unpleasant experience, a dreadful nightmare. I dreamt that I was living in a pleasant and secure castle, but became restless and decided to explore the outside world. In my dream, I traveled by some magical means to a far country where all was joy and pleasure. I drank deep from a cup of ambrosia as much as I wanted. I met and danced with a woman of matchless beauty, and I disported myself in endless summer. I played and feasted with many good companions, people of all kinds and conditions, natures, ages, and complexions. There were some sorrows, but these only served to emphasize the pleasures of this existence. This life went by for many years. Suddenly and without warning, there was a catastrophe: huge tidal waves swept over the land. I was drenched and very nearly drowned. I found myself hurtling back towards my castle, as if on wings, but when I reached the entrance gate, I could not get in. A huge green door had been put up by a giant evil spirit. I threw myself against it again and again, but it did not yield. Suddenly, as I felt that I was about to die, I remembered a magic word which was reputed to dissolve enchantments. No sooner had I spoken it than the great green portal fell away, like a leaf in the wind, and I was able to enter my home again and live thenceforth in safety. But I was so frightened I woke up."

Shah comments: Now, as you may have guessed, you are the butterfly. The island is this world. The things which you like and dislike are therefore seldom what you think they are. Even when your time comes to go (or when you think about it), you only encounter distortions of the facts, which is why this question cannot ordinarily be understood. But beyond "the butterfly" is "the sleeping man." Behind both of these is the true Reality. Given the right opportunity, "the butterfly" can learn about these things. About where it comes from, about the nature of the "sleeping man," and about what lies beyond these two. There is more to life than people are ordinarily aware of. This serves as an inspiration to seek a guide who knows the way.

I must admit that initially, I delved into Robert Waggoner's book on Lucid Dreaming. To my surprise, I found it to be an extremely "exciting" read. Subsequently, I picked up this particular book. At times, it felt a bit sluggish to make my way through. Indeed, this book leans more towards being a "manual" or a "how-to" guide, presenting various methods for inducing lucid dreams and what one should do once in such a state.

The information it offers is truly valuable. In fact, on the very first night after completing the book, I had a couple of lucid dreams. Although the lucidity endured only for a brief period, I somehow managed to apply some of the advice from this book, without even consciously incubating on it.

Undoubtedly, it is a great read for anyone with an interest in this subject matter. I am determined to study and put into practice the methods outlined in this book until I am able to induce more lucid dreams independently.

I firmly believe that with consistent effort and application of these techniques, I will be able to enhance my lucid dreaming experiences and gain a deeper understanding of this fascinating phenomenon.

This is apparently one of the first western books that was widely accessible to the public. It offers detailed instructions on how to have a lucid dream. It is indeed an oldie, but it is also a goodie.

The ability to be aware that one is dreaming and to have some control over the dream content can be a truly remarkable experience. This book provides valuable insights and practical techniques for achieving lucid dreams.

Even though there have been many advancements in the field of sleep research and dream studies since 1991, this book still holds its own. Its simple and straightforward approach makes it accessible to both beginners and more experienced dreamers. It offers a wealth of information that can help readers explore the world of lucid dreaming and unlock the potential of their dreams.

Excellent beginner's guide for the curious. This is a truly remarkable book that I had the pleasure of reading in the 1990's. At that time, I had just graduated from high school and was filled with a sense of adventure and a desire to explore the fascinating world of dreaming. The book provided me with a wealth of knowledge and insights that were both engaging and easy to understand.

I also have a very fond recollection of this book. It represents a special time in my life when I could afford to sleep long and deeply, allowing my dreams to unfold and take shape. I would often take the time to journal about my dreams, jotting down the vivid images, emotions, and experiences that I had while asleep. This not only helped me to better understand my own subconscious mind but also provided a creative outlet for my thoughts and feelings.

Overall, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning more about the mysteries of the dream world. It is a great starting point for beginners and offers a unique perspective on a subject that has intrigued humans for centuries.

In spite of my rating, I would still highly recommend this book to those individuals who are striving to have lucid dreams.

It simply didn't yield the desired results for me, yet it did manage to push me towards realizing that there are certain barriers and safety locks present within my subconscious.

When I shared this experience with one of my friends, she quipped, "So basically you're having Inception-level dreams about how you suck at dreaming?" I pondered over it for a while and then replied, "Yeah. Exactly."

I dedicated months to doing the exercises and made the necessary changes to make things occur. However, instead, I obtained results that were absolutely peculiar.

I had lucid dreams within dreams about failing at lucid dreaming or becoming aware that I was dreaming and then being paralyzed and yanked away from whatever my intention might have been.

Another interesting development took place when I had to track my dreams and come up with "dreamsigns" to assist me in becoming lucid.

Once I began to become aware of them, they ceased to show up in my dreams entirely, including a bothersome recurring scenario that had been plaguing me for several years.

This left me with very little or nothing to hold onto or identify as "dream-like." Unlocking my subconscious proved to be a guarded and constantly shifting target.

Apart from the recommendations in this book, I also experimented with meditations, several sleep apps, and even a hefty dose of exposure therapy in an attempt to push myself into being more conscious while I slept.

But nothing came of it, no matter how meticulously I followed the exercises or willed myself to make it happen.

It could potentially be because this particular point in my life is not the most opportune time.

Nevertheless, I'll persist in trying.

I firmly believe that attaining this ability can provide you with valuable insights and assist you in resolving various issues.

If this book has the potential to be of help to you, then why not give it a try? Even though it is nearly 30 years old, it still contains a wealth of relevant information for those who are just starting out.

Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters, a renowned rock group, made some truly fascinating comments regarding this book.

As a result, I decided to pick it up on a whim. To my pleasant surprise, I discovered that it is filled with a wealth of common sense knowledge.

There is also a plethora of interesting scientific research presented within its pages, which adds depth and credibility to the content.

Moreover, the narrative is extremely compelling, drawing the reader in and keeping them engaged from start to finish.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book to readers who are seeking something that will encourage them to "think outside the box" or, in this particular case, to dream about new possibilities.

It offers a unique perspective and is sure to stimulate the mind and spark the imagination.

Whether you're a fan of rock music or simply someone who enjoys a good read, this book is definitely worth checking out.
