A useful and important book.. I thank my colleague Mohamed Ali who encouraged me to read it through his beautiful comment.

And for me, I find that the passage on page twenty...summarizes the book as a whole where it says:

The image of the world presented to the general public is furthest from the truth, and the truth of the matter is usually buried under layer upon layer of lies, and this was a brilliant success, as it prevented the threat represented by democracy, and it was achieved within a framework of freedom which is a very strange thing, for it is not like the totalitarian state where it is imposed by force, but rather these achievements are made within a framework of freedom, and if we want to understand our society we must think about these facts, for they are of great importance to those who are interested in the nature and essence of the society in which we live...

This passage alone is sufficient as it enhances the value of the book and clarifies its educational, cultural and awareness-raising importance...

Searching for ways to control the media and transform it into a huge propaganda tool in the hands of the authorities.

The media plays a crucial role in shaping public opinion and disseminating information. However, in some cases, there are attempts to manipulate and control it for political or other purposes.

Controlling the media can involve various means, such as censorship, restricting access to certain information, or influencing the content and narrative. This can have a significant impact on the democratic process and the ability of the public to make informed decisions.

It is important to be vigilant and ensure that the media remains free and independent, so that it can fulfill its role as a watchdog and provide accurate and diverse information to the public.

At the same time, efforts should be made to promote media literacy and critical thinking skills among the public, so that they can better evaluate and understand the information presented to them.

By doing so, we can safeguard the integrity of the media and ensure that it serves the interests of the people rather than being used as a tool for propaganda or manipulation.

This is a highly recommended book that you should read immediately.

It is one of the best books that I have read recently.

The writing style is simple, clear, and powerful.

It vividly describes how the rich and powerful control the media.

The author of this book wrote it in 2003 and accurately predicted what is happening now with great clarity.

The subject matter is not about democracy or anything like that.

It is a book rich in extremely useful information that will make you think a lot.

There are so many things in it that you can't ignore.

It really makes you think deeply about various aspects of society and the world we live in.

Overall, it is a must-read book that will surely expand your knowledge and perspective.

Highly recommended!

Taming the Bewildered Herd

PROPAGANDA has achieved remarkable feats, and one of the most notable is its control over the media. Noam Chomsky's book, Media Control: The Spectacular Achievements of Propaganda, sheds light on this.

The first modern government propaganda operation began under the Woodrow Wilson Administration during World War I. The Creel Commission was established, successfully transforming a pacifist population into a war-mongering one. After the war, similar techniques were used to create a Red Scare, which had a significant impact on unions and freedoms.
Progressive intellectuals took pride in participating in Wilson's war, believing they could drive a reluctant population into war. Liberal democratic theorists and media figures were also impressed by these successes. Walter Lipmann, a prominent American journalist, was involved in these propaganda commissions. He believed in a class-based democracy, with a specialised class making decisions and the rest being "the bewildered herd" that needed to be tamed.
Chomsky explains how the bewildered herd is tamed through the manufacture of consent, using the media, schools, and popular culture. New scares, such as terrorists, are continuously created to keep the population scared and distracted. The aftermath of 9/11 saw the bombing of Afghanistan and Iraq in search of non-existent weapons of mass destruction. The American public, easily influenced by propaganda, did not protest.
However, American propaganda has had its failures, such as the Abu Ghraib prison atrocities. While human rights are being violated in various places, the American public cannot remain passive forever. Have they been completely brainwashed by the American establishment and its media?

It remains to be seen if the American people will wake up and question the role of propaganda in their lives.

The book talks about the false and failing American democracy.

There is no doubt that it contains a lot of useful information, especially for those who perhaps still do not know America in its true nature.

However, the book is a bit old.

Rabia - 1439

The book titled "The False and Failing American Democracy" provides a comprehensive look into the state of democracy in the United States.

It offers valuable insights that can be beneficial to many, particularly those who may not be fully aware of the true essence of America.

The author presents a detailed analysis of the various aspects of American democracy, highlighting its flaws and shortcomings.

Despite being an older publication, the book still holds relevance today as it sheds light on some fundamental issues that continue to plague the American democratic system.

In the context of this being more than 35 years old (1988), it is truly a very apt speech for today.

It is remarkable how relevant it still remains in our current times. If you are also a Westerner, particularly an American or Canadian, who is working through the realization of just how much pro-military and pro-USA propaganda you have lived through, I highly recommend giving this speech a listen.

Literally, it only takes an hour to listen to, and it is great for that purpose.

It provides valuable insights and a different perspective that can help you better understand the influence of such propaganda in your life.

By listening to this speech, you can gain a deeper awareness and start to question the messages that have been ingrained in you over the years.

It is a thought-provoking and eye-opening experience that is well worth your time.

Articles shine a light on the way the powers that be in America deceive their people and the rest of the world's peoples!

It is truly concerning how some in positions of authority in the United States seem to employ tactics that are not in the best interest of the public. This behavior not only impacts the American people but also has far-reaching consequences for the global community.

The 2.5/5 rating might suggest that there are aspects of these revelations that are somewhat disturbing, yet perhaps not entirely conclusive. It could be that further investigation is needed to fully understand the extent of the deception and its implications.

Nevertheless, it is important for the public to be aware of such issues and to demand transparency and accountability from those in power. Only then can we hope to build a more just and equitable world for all.

Totalitarian systems use coercion to suppress their people. In contrast, so-called "progressive democratic" systems use "the media" for the same purpose.

This is the idea that the author analyzes based on his lived experience.

The media plays a crucial role in influencing the masses. When "propaganda" is carried out under the supervision of the state and adopted by the educated or intellectual "elite" classes, it can have a significant impact.

The author explains to us the meaning of "progressive democracy" from the American perspective, in which the people are divided into two parts.

The first is a small group that plays an active role in decision-making and participates in its implementation.

The second is the vast majority who are mere "spectators" without participating in decision-making.

The author also mentions around the middle of the book the creation of "chaos" using the media, which is clearly demonstrated in the creation of the "monster Saddam" who was said to be a threat to the world, even though he fought Iran for eight years without achieving victory, with the support of the United States and Arab countries themselves!

America uses the media according to its own self-interest, focusing on certain things and ignoring others to arouse public opinion or what they call "manufacturing consensus."

This book also talks about terrorism and the role of the media in achieving the interests of the state by using the chaos of terrorism.

The United States' principle in this regard is: as long as we are the ones doing it, it's not terrorism!

This book summarizes a lot of what happened in the past century, the role of the media, and how the United States used it, comparing many facts.

It also summarizes Hitler's famous saying, "Give me a media without a conscience, and I will give you a people without awareness."

The book shows the close connection between "capital, the media, and the manufacturing of public consensus through various means."

I was impressed by the violence :)

The value of this book is of great significance to Western rationality. For us Arabs, the content written here is not just about Muslims, but it is astonishing to American citizens and reveals truths that have been hidden in the game of the media.

This book provides a unique perspective that challenges the mainstream narrative and forces us to reevaluate our understanding of certain issues.

It serves as a wake-up call, urging us to look beyond the surface and question the information that is presented to us.

By doing so, we can gain a more accurate and comprehensive understanding of the world around us.

The author's research and analysis are thorough and thought-provoking, making this book a must-read for anyone interested in exploring the complex relationship between different cultures and the role of the media in shaping public opinion.

Chomsky offers a distinct perspective on the media world.

The author is particularly critical of the US media and the control that the US government has over it.

This control is not like that in repressive and totalitarian systems.

The book provides a brief look at how the production of consent is carried out.

Book review: https://kitapokurum.blogspot.com/2021...

Chomsky's work challenges the traditional understanding of the media and its role in society.

He argues that the media is not an objective source of information but is instead influenced by powerful interests.

This control can have a significant impact on public opinion and the political process.

By examining the production of consent, Chomsky shows how the media can be used to shape people's beliefs and values.

Overall, his work provides a valuable contribution to the study of media and society.

The Role of Media in Modern Society and the Concept of Propaganda

The media plays a significant role in modern social affairs, which leads us to raise questions about the world and the society we desire to live in, especially regarding the form of democracy we envision for this society.

**1. The Concept of Propaganda**: Propaganda is an attempt to use the media to shape, control, or modify the attitudes of groups to achieve a specific goal.

**2. The Concept of Democracy**: There are two main concepts of democracy. The first is that a democratic society is one where the public has the necessary means to actively participate in the management of their affairs, and the media is open and free. The second is that the public is prevented from managing their affairs and the media, which should remain under strict control.

**3. Media as Coercion**: In totalitarian or military countries, force is always the solution, and coercion falls directly on those who step out of line or want to do so. In democratic countries (of course, the term is relative here), the media and propaganda methods serve as a form of coercion to deal with this departure in an indirect but very effective way.

**4. The Art of Democracy**: It makes the public opinion agree with things that they do not essentially desire through the use of promotional means, that is, the process of manufacturing consensus.

**5. Media as Deception**: It includes hypocrisy, distortion, fabrication, exaggeration, and intimidation.

**6. Media as a System**: The United States is the largest country in terms of investment in the media and propaganda system. It spends billions of dollars to create a powerful and closed system, and the results are clear, which is the control of this system over the minds of most people in different proportions.

**7. Characteristics of the American Propaganda Media System**: It is innovative, following, preemptive, and creative.

**8. Goals of the Propaganda Media System**: For the people, it includes stealing minds and hearts, manipulating human emotions, arousing emotions to gain sympathy, playing, brainwashing and deceiving, corrupting public opinion, controlling and dominating, and most importantly, maintaining power and exploitation. For the elite, when you control this group, you ensure the transmission of messages, goals, and imposed purposes without discussion and without thinking.

In conclusion, this is a very useful book. Although it is relatively short and the topic is somewhat old considering the great development that has occurred in the field of media, the goals and motives remain the same, which is control and the manufacture or absence of consensus.
