What I truly loved about this story? Well, it was the fact that the hero was completely and utterly enamoured with the heroine.

Even as I was reading it, I could sense the palpable click between the two of them. It was like an invisible thread pulling them closer with each passing page.

However, there were a few things that didn't quite sit right with me. The heroine's trust issues seemed a bit of a contradiction.

Given that she was in the habit of helping ex-cons, it was rather odd. She even mentioned that she was used to trusting those guys, getting hurt but not really minding too much since she wasn't in love with them.

But then her reaction to Jack just didn't quite fit into this narrative. It was as if her trust issues were magnified when it came to him, and it didn't seem to align with her previous experiences.

Also, at times the story felt a bit slow-paced, and not a whole lot seemed to be happening. But despite that, it was still an easy read that managed to hold my attention.

The guy in question is truly an ass. I have serious doubts that I would ever find it in my heart to forgive him if I were to come across him in the real world. In fact, I might even go so far as to file a police complaint against him! However, since this is not real life, I can somehow come to terms with that fact and simply move on.

Everything else within the book is simply amazing. I absolutely loved the way Jack doesn't even bring up Jamie's weight. It's as if it doesn't even register on his thought radar. This is highly appreciated. Nobody should have to have a guy try to justify their weight issues. If someone truly loves you, nothing else would matter to them except you as a person, and not just as a body.

This book is seriously a likable one. It has managed to capture my attention and hold it throughout. The characters are well-developed and the story is engaging. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good read.

It was truly an extremely cute book. However, it just seemed to have certain deficiencies in some aspects.

I really had a hard time understanding why Jamie and Jack couldn't be together. Her reasoning was truly quite strange and not very convincing.

Moreover, I was anticipating that something a little more captivating and interesting would occur regarding the company she worked for.

Maybe there could have been more complex plot twists or unexpected developments within that context.

Overall, despite its cuteness, the book left me with a sense of dissatisfaction in these particular areas.

It had the potential to be even better if these aspects had been addressed more effectively.

I was not entertained at all.

I liked Jack, and I thought that he had a somewhat acceptable reason to lie. However, I did not like Jamie. She was extremely inflexible, unforgiving, impractical, and illogical. I had absolutely no reason to admire or like her. The way he fell for her seemed completely unrealistic. There were no interesting conversations throughout the story. Not even once did I laugh out loud. Nothing in the book surprised me or delighted me.

Regarding the sexual content, I can't quantify it precisely, but as I recall, it was probably moderate, maybe even strong. The setting of the story was in current day New York. Copyright 2006. The genre of this book was contemporary romance.

For a list of my reviews of other Erin McCarthy books, you can see my 3.5 star review of “Flat-Out Sexy” which was posted under 3 stars on 11/11/08.

I couldn't find anything in the book except the main couples' lust over each other.

It seems that the author focused solely on this aspect, neglecting other important elements that could have made the story more engaging.

Yes, as romance readers, we do need our couples to finally collide. However, there needs to be more than just that. There should be depth in the personality of the characters. We want to get to know them, understand their motivations, and see their growth throughout the story.

A certain story is also crucial. It gives the characters a context to interact in and provides a framework for the romance to develop. Without a proper story, the romance may feel flat and unconvincing.

There are other things as well that can make a read into a good novel. For example, the writing style, the pacing, and the use of imagery. All of these elements work together to create a memorable reading experience.

Unfortunately, in this case, I was disappointed huge time. The lack of these essential elements made the book fall short of my expectations. I was hoping for a deeper and more fulfilling romance, but instead, I got a one-dimensional story that focused only on lust.

This was truly an adorably charming romance. There were indeed a few moments that bordered on the sexy side, but not an excessive amount, nor were they overly steamy. It was sweet, with a sense of urgency, yet strangely not overly passionate. However, that was perfectly fine! Because the story maintained a steady momentum and kept moving forward.

Jamie is a social worker residing in NYC. She has requested funding from her roommate's family's foundation. But Jack, who is managing the foundation while his grandfather is in a rehabilitation facility, has noticed some peculiar transactional activities that suggest something underhanded might be occurring at Jamie's workplace. Consequently, he is unable to provide her with the money. Nevertheless, he finds himself sort of half-stalking her to determine if she could potentially be involved in what's happening. He quickly concludes that she isn't, but a fortuitous "bump" on the subway leads them both into an instant state of lust.

However, they don't immediately act on that lust during their first date. They both attempt to play it cool until they share a kiss and the sparks fly. But Jamie experiences a bit of cold feet on the way to his apartment, so they end up sitting in the lobby and chatting throughout the night. And THEN they get down and dirty. All this time, Jamie has no idea who Jack truly is, and Jack is captivated by this woman who enjoys his company for who he is, rather than because he is wealthy. So, they sort of embark on this relationship based on a series of Jack's lies. Once Jamie discovers the truth, she believes he had far different intentions, and she flees.

But as fate and destiny would have it, things have a way of working out as they should. This includes all of this transpiring just two weeks before his sister/her roommate is getting married and they are both part of the wedding party.

Anyway, there are numerous great characters in this story. Beckwith was highly amusing with his slightly inaccurate or off-kilter predictions, yet they were completely "on" in the grander context. I adored Pops - he had me in stitches. And I felt so sorry for Jack as he was striving so hard to regain Jamie's favor. He truly was a wonderful guy. And while I sympathized with Jack, I could also understand Jamie's perspective.

It was an enjoyable and entertaining story. I might just have to go back and read #1.

You Don't Know Jack is the second installment in the NY Girlfriends series penned by Erin McCarthy. I delved into the first book, The Pregnancy Test, nearly five years ago and found it to be just average. It wasn't abysmal, but it certainly didn't wow me. Thankfully, this second offering more than compensates for the shortcomings of the first. It is replete with humor and contains some of the steamiest and spiciest sex scenes I've come across in a long while. Some readers might even classify it as erotica.

I adored these characters. Jamie and Jack, despite being complete polar opposites, form the perfect couple. Jamie is a working-class girl residing in New York City, sharing an apartment with three roommates to make ends meet. She is a social worker dedicated to helping paroled convicts reintegrate into society as free men. She doesn't believe in the fairy tale of happily ever after or in love. I initially thought Jamie's cynical nature would grate on me after a while, but it never did. Jamie adheres to an unusual code of ethics, and until she meets Jack, it has served her well.

Ordinarily, a man who lies to a woman from the outset can never be trusted, and I commend the woman who tells such men where to go. Regrettably, Jack is not forthcoming with Jamie when they meet. He fabricates the circumstances that lead to their encounter on the subway. He conceals his true identity, knowing that Jamie would likely avoid him if she knew. Firstly, he is her roommate Caroline's brother, and secondly, he is extremely wealthy. We're talking about an obscene amount of money. He hails from a wealthy family, but this is the kind of wealth that allows someone to officially retire from a corporate Wall Street career before turning thirty. This is definitely not the lifestyle Jamie is accustomed to or feels comfortable with. Last but not least, Jack knows that Jamie would have an issue with his true identity because he just rejected her employer's funding request and suspected her of embezzling money. She might not react positively if she knew. I completely understand why Jack withholds the truth from Jamie, but it still isn't right, and of course, Jamie eventually finds out, and it doesn't bode well for their relationship.

The wonderful thing about Jack is that despite his vast wealth, he is highly likable, down-to-earth, and incredibly persistent. Jamie finds it extremely challenging to stay angry at him and not like him. Moreover, he makes her feel things she has never felt before with any other man. Several times while reading this book, I envied Jamie.

My only minor gripe with this book is that the story leaves numerous loose ends, leaving the reader hanging. I had a plethora of "what about" questions at the end regarding Austin, Jack's grandfather, Jamie's father, Jamie's roommates, Caroline, Allison, and Mandy. If you're like me when reading a book, especially one that is part of a series, you desire those loose ends to be tied up, especially if they have no bearing on the rest of the series. Unfortunately, I'm unable to ascertain if there are any more books in this series.

Nevertheless, I thoroughly relished getting to know Jamie and Jack and highly recommend this book if you enjoy steamy (smutty and sexy) love scenes and a healthy dose of hilarity.

I absolutely adored both books of the NY Girlfriends Series.

They were so engaging and filled with interesting characters and storylines that kept me hooked from start to finish.

The way the author, Erin, developed the relationships between the girlfriends was truly remarkable.

I found myself completely invested in their lives and rooting for them through all their ups and downs.

I hope with all my heart that Erin has plans to continue this wonderful series very, very soon.

I can't wait to see what new adventures and challenges the girlfriends will face in the next installment.

It's safe to say that I'm a huge fan of the NY Girlfriends Series and will be eagerly awaiting the next book.

I could seriously envision this being transformed into a movie.

It contains all the essential elements. There's the case of mistaken identity, which always adds an element of confusion and excitement. Then there's corporate theft, which brings in the aspect of mystery and the pursuit of justice.

The cantankerous grandfather adds a touch of humor and wisdom, while the smarta$$ kid provides a youthful and rebellious energy.

The cross dressing psychic is a unique and fascinating character, adding an element of the supernatural and the unexpected.

And let's not forget the two star crossed lovers, whose relationship is sure to tug at the heartstrings.

Oh, and of course, there are some steamy under the covers scenes as well, which will surely add some heat to the story.

All in all, this has the potential to be a truly captivating and entertaining movie.
