Jamie and Jack have an interesting encounter. Beckwith, the cross-dressing psychic, predicts an accident, a moving something, food, and a gorgeous man who will touch Jamie's soul. Four months later, Jamie rushes through the subway doors and into Jack's arms, crushing the spaghetti he had in a bag.

It turns out that Jack had been following her. He is the brother of one of her roommates and moved to intercept her to prevent her from bumping into someone else. Jamie is from Kentucky and has been in New York for 6 years. She is a social worker with a private agency, a big heart, and a large bust.

Jack is rich, having retired from Wall Street with 10 million dollars. He is the administrator of his grandfather's charity fund and said no to a fund request from the social agency Jamie works for because he saw someone trading with their money. He is following Jamie to make sure she is not involved.

They agree to meet for dinner and end up staying in the lobby of his apartment until dawn, talking and feeling a deep connection. They then go into his apartment and have great sex. However, Jack doesn't tell Jamie his full name, that he is a millionaire, that his sister is her roommate, or that he said no to her charity request.

Jamie figures it out when she wakes up and sees the pictures of him and his sister and hears a voicemail about her agency. For 2 weeks, she avoids him while he tries to win her back. She wants to be friends and protect her heart, while he wants to love her and give her his heart.

Jack responds to those around him by taking his grandfather into his home for rehabilitation, taking in the 14-year-old stock trader from Jamie's office and filing to be his foster parent, and helping Jamie's father, who left 20 years ago, went to jail, and was paroled, bridge back into her life.

Paired in the wedding party for his sister, Jack has a running commentary of words and touches. Finally, Jamie decides it's okay to take the risk and love him back.

While I did enjoy this romance to some extent, it didn't quite measure up to the previous one.

The last romance was truly fantastic mainly because at that time, I was in desperate need of a good love story and it fulfilled that need perfectly. However, this current one seems to lack a certain spark and is just a little bit flat.

I find myself not particularly liking the fact that he follows her around constantly. It gives off an overbearing vibe. Additionally, I don't appreciate the fact that he lies to her, although fortunately, this aspect is resolved fairly quickly and doesn't get dragged out for too long.

Another thing that confuses me is the psychic. What is his deal? I really don't understand his role or significance in the story.

Overall, it was a nice read, but if this had been the first romance I picked up, I'm not entirely convinced that I would have continued reading. There are just a few elements that didn't quite click for me.

I absolutely loved this book. I really enjoyed every single page of it. In fact, I didn't even know that it was the second book in a series. However, I was able to read it just fine as a stand-alone.

Just like with Erin McCarthy's other books, there were some issues that I had. The constant head hopping sometimes drove me crazy. It made it a bit difficult to keep track of whose perspective I was supposed to be following. But despite that, this was a really steamy contemporary romance that had me hooked from the very beginning.

There were also a few grammar issues here and there. For example, there were some instances where "his" was used instead of "hers". But overall, these were minor flaws that didn't really detract from the story.

What really stood out to me was Erin McCarthy's voice. It was so unique and engaging that it kept me reading until the very end. I truly loved this book and would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a steamy contemporary romance.

I wanted to like this novel a whole lot more than I did, to be honest.

I mean, I kind of absolutely adored The Pregnancy Test, and I figured the lead-in to the next book in the series would hit that same happy place. But it just didn't quite happen for me.

Not that I didn't enjoy this. But I definitely didn't love this story as much as I had hoped.

Probably my favourite part of this story is the psychic that Jamie consults. They (I'm a bit confessed on chosen gender here) are freaking fabulous and hilarious.

The fact that their prediction helps to snowball Jamie's decision-making process is all that much better. I also love that scene when Jack finally gets to meet the legend and is just all confusion.

Having said that, one of the things about Jamie that I struggled with was the one-dimensionality of her interactions because they were based around the whole prediction idea.

Normally when a Meet Cute happens because someone is stalking, I'm immediately throwing up red flags. I mean, not the greatest reason to stumble into someone's life, to be honest.

But the fact that Jack is aware that he's being creepy and is just too damn bored to care... that actually made it kind of funny and less weird.

I can't imagine what it would be like to be retired at 30 odd and just, at a loose ends as to what to do with your life. Again, it makes for some kind of humorous interactions.

You Don't Know Jack is a good romance, and a nice, light read. But I did find a lot of the characters throughout to be really one-dimensional.

Which made it hard to quite connect with them the way I wanted to. Hopefully the next and final book in the trilogy gives me that emotional connection I've been craving.

3.5 stars. This is a truly captivating love story that features some extremely steamy scenes. It really piqued my interest and held my attention throughout. However, the author seems to be overly insistent with her "destiny" theme. It felt a bit too heavy-handed at times, which was a bit of a turn-off. And that cross-dressing psychic? Well, I could have definitely done without that particular element. It just seemed a bit out of place and unnecessary.

On the plus side, I really enjoyed getting to know the characters and their thoughts. Although the rapidly changing points of view could sometimes be a bit confusing, for the most part, it added an interesting layer to the story. I loved seeing the relationship develop between Jamie and Jack. There's something so appealing about a man who is determined to win over his woman. I found myself rooting for them all the way.

Overall, despite its flaws, this was still an enjoyable read. It had its moments of passion and drama, and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good love story with a bit of spice.

Okay. First off, this is a good book.

I think it is even better than the first one due to all the other wonderful characters. Especially Beckwith, Pops and Finn really add a lot of charm to the story. In fact, I even considered giving it four stars.

However, I ultimately gave it three stars. The reason is twofold. Firstly, there are some unnecessary intimate scenes that seem a bit out of place and don't really contribute to the overall narrative. Secondly, the writing is not really that impressive. It has the same flow and basic plot as the first book, which makes it almost boring at times, aside from the additional characters.

Unlike "The Pregnancy Test", "You Don't Know Jack" does have better characters, which gives it a better flow in that regard. But it still has some room for improvement in other aspects to truly stand out.

This is one of those books that truly made me feel as if each cliche was slowly eating away at my soul.

The story kicks off with a cross-dressing psychic who enlightens a group of four women residing in NYC, who are sipping on martinis, about their fates. Our protagonist, a curvaceous, free-spirited country girl who moved to the big city and became a social worker because of her significant daddy abandonment issues, predictably believes the psychic's counsel. She then meets, has sex with (and ultimately falls in love with, of course) a secret-millionaire hunk with a heart of gold.

The hunk and the heroine engage in a lot of sexual activity, but it's always in between the numerous times they discuss how she doesn't love him or want to be with him because men who like her and have jobs terrify her (thanks to those daddy issues). The cross-dresser conveniently shows up at opportune moments to make snarky, pop-culture-laden comments about the future and provide everyone with hearty laughs. A man in a dress! How hilarious! The three other friends are like the Three Bears of Manhattan - one loves Jack and Coke and the Hamptons; one is tall, thin, and sarcastic; and one is clearly Samantha from Sex in the City, that fun-loving slut!

The hunk saves the heroine from white-collar crime, saves all the poor people he can reach through the power of being extremely wealthy, and saves the heroine from her daddy issues by reuniting her with daddy! Societal problems bringing you down? Just throw money at them! Hooray!

The book is light-hearted and entertaining, yet also a little bit painful to read. I laughed, I cried, I ripped up that check to the homeless shelter and went in search of my true love to save me and the impoverished.

I have delved into quite a number of Single-Title romances penned by a plethora of popular authors. However, I have never truly been enamored with their style. Thus, when I began reading this particular one, I did so with a certain degree of trepidation. While I cannot claim that I am head over heels in love with it, I did find it to be relatively enjoyable.

My favorite aspect of this book is that the hero falls deeply and passionately in love with the heroine and has no qualms about expressing it.

The heroine, on the other hand, is quirky and endearing. Nevertheless, she constantly pushes the hero away for what appear to be rather ridiculous reasons, which becomes incredibly frustrating after a while.

The premise of the book, where the hero is investigating the heroine, falls in love but doesn't disclose who he really is or what he's up to, had great potential for both conflict and entertainment. However, in my opinion, everything was revealed far too early, thereby undermining the initial idea. After that, it seemed as though the entire book was centered around the heroine's numerous issues and the hero being almost too good to be true.

All in all, it's an okay read.

This book was not what I had anticipated at all.

The first chapter indeed set a promising tone, getting the book off to a good start. However, as soon as the characters met, it seemed that the storyline took a backseat.

The book placed an excessive emphasis on the sexual relationship between the two main characters, dwelling on it for pages and even entire chapters at a stretch.

The illegal activity unfolding at Jamie's charity organization had the potential to be a great catalyst for the story, pushing the two characters together in an interesting way. But unfortunately, it was resolved very early on, effectively killing any remaining anticipation I had.

In my opinion, the book had great potential, yet it ultimately felt rather flat. I do enjoy a well-written bedroom scene, but in this case, they were so long that they ended up boring me. I was even tempted to skip pages just to get through those parts, which is something I never usually do. I firmly believe that there should have been a greater focus on character development and the plot itself.

This would have made the story more engaging and fulfilling, rather than relying so heavily on the sexual aspect.

Overall, it was a disappointment considering the initial promise it held.

Actually, 4 1/2 stars. I would be tempted to throw in a 5-star rating only because I truly believe that a book I love deserves those 5 stars. However, I have my own standards and criteria for rating books.

I am pretty sure I felt brain cells dying as I read this.

Luckily, since it was such a short and painfully easy read, I might have salvaged some. But, just barely.

Once in a while I can go for some decent chick-lit. However, this particular piece is a far cry from what I would consider good.

It is filled with stereotypical characters that seem to be lifted directly from a tired playbook. There's the plucky Midwestern girl-next-door who meets the big city, the cantankerous old man, the snide teenager, the snobby WASP mother, the cute, preppy, Upper East Side catch, and a gaggle of faceless city friends just like those in Sex in the City.

To make matters worse, the plot lines are completely preposterous. It's as if the author didn't even try to come up with something original or engaging.

Overall, this is a prime example of why some chick-lit gets a bad reputation. It's just ridiculous and not worth the time it takes to read it.
