This book was just okay.

It has a contemporary setting, and I'm not entirely sure if I like that. When I think about the previous McKettrick novels that were set in the old west, they were so much better.

This one just didn't have the same charm and atmosphere.

I found myself much more engaged with Doss and Hannah's story than the main one.

Overall, I would rate this book as three stars out of five.

The contemporary setting didn't quite work for me, and I missed the authenticity and excitement of the old west settings in the previous novels.

However, the story of Doss and Hannah was well-written and added some depth to the overall narrative.

If you're a fan of the McKettrick series, you might still enjoy this book, but it didn't quite live up to my expectations.

A Complicated Tale of the McKettrick Women

There is a complicated little story about a McKetrrick woman who is completely unaware that she is a McKettrick. She discovers her heritage when she moves into the family homestead with her little boy. Once there, she forms a connection through time with another McKettrick woman who also has a little boy and faces some difficult decisions. The stories have many parallels and there are some strange interactions that give the whole thing a ghostly feel. This book manages to bring together two unexpected love stories in one place.

However, my main gripe is that I started reading the series with this book. As a result, I constantly felt like I was playing catch-up. There are simply too many family members to keep track of, and when you get the condensed version of the family history, the storylines sound like a soap opera. I understand that this is somewhat inevitable given how far along we are in the series, but it still deterred me a bit from what was likely a fairly charming story. If you打算 read this book, I would recommend tracking down the other books in the series and reading them first if you haven't already.

This is one of those remarkable books where you initially progress at a leisurely pace, but then you become completely hooked. It features two intertwined stories, one set in the past and the other in the present. Both narratives are centered around the old Holt McKettrick Ranch.

In the past story, Hannah finds herself widowed as the wife of Holt's son, Gabe McKettrick. His younger brother steps in to take care of her and her son Tobias. The details of their lives on the ranch during that time add depth and charm to the tale.

In the present story, single mom Sierra McKettrick relocates to the McKettrick Ranch with her son Liam. However, strange and mysterious things begin to occur in the house. The caretaker, Travis Reid, informs her that her sister has witnessed objects appearing in unexpected places. But the situation takes an even more诡异 turn when her son tells her that he has seen a boy in his room. This revelation leaves Sierra both intrigued and a little scared, setting the stage for a thrilling exploration of the ranch's secrets and the connection between the past and present.

Good so far! It's quite interesting that I read books out of order. There could be several reasons for this. Maybe it's because a particular chapter or section catches my attention first, and I can't resist delving into it. Or perhaps I'm in a mood where I want to explore different parts of a story without following the traditional sequence. Sometimes, it might also be due to the fact that I've heard about a specific part of the book that seems really exciting, and I want to experience it right away. Reading books out of order can also offer a unique perspective and a different way of understanding the overall narrative. It allows me to make connections and discoveries that I might not have made if I had read the book linearly. Overall, while it may seem unconventional, reading books out of order has its own charm and can enhance my reading experience in unexpected ways.

This story had a certain element of fantasy to it.

It was like a fascinating crossover of two distinct periods of time.

One moment, the characters seemed to be firmly rooted in the present day, dealing with the ordinary challenges and joys of modern life.

But then, in an instant, they would find themselves thrust back into a bygone era, filled with the charm and mystery of a different time.

The author did an excellent job of seamlessly weaving these two time periods together, creating a world that was both familiar and yet completely unexpected.

Readers were left on the edge of their seats, eager to see what would happen next as the characters navigated this unique and enchanting journey through time.

It was a truly captivating read that left a lasting impression.

I spent my holidays indulging in the entire McKettrick's series. It was an absolute delight to immerse myself in this fictional world.

This book is rather unique as it presents two parallel stories. One is set in the modern era, while the other takes us back to an older time. The contrast between the two adds an interesting layer to the narrative.

Despite the initial strangeness, I found myself completely captivated by the stories. The characters were well-developed and the plotlines were engaging. It was a delicious read that kept me turning the pages.

I have to admit that I loved it very much. It's one of those books that you can't put down once you start. And let's face it, besides dogs and children, who can resist such a wonderful story?

This was an entertaining contemporary romance intertwined with a historical romance. It centered around two women, ninety years apart, living in the same home. They both had to deal with losses and had fragile sons of similar ages.

Sierra McKettrick had just become a McKettrick. Her father kidnapped her at the age of two when her parents divorced and took her to Mexico to raise. After her father's death, Sierra got involved with a married man without knowing. She had his son, Liam, just a few days after the man died. She had been raising her gifted and asthmatic son alone, traveling from place to place.

Her mother, the woman she thought had abandoned her, found her and made a deal. If Sierra lived on the McKettrick land in Arizona for a year, her mother would ensure Liam had the best health care possible. This was a deal no loving mother could refuse, even if Sierra wasn't sure she wanted anything to do with the McKettricks.

Sierra moved into her mother's family home and found Travis Reid taking care of the place. Travis was a lawyer who quit his job with the McKettricks after his younger brother blew himself up while attempting to make meth. He was guilt-ridden, believing he could have saved his brother.

Travis and Sierra were immediately attracted to each other. However, his grief and her feeling that her current life was only temporary made it difficult to build a relationship. To make matters worse, the house seemed to be haunted.

In 1919, Hannah McKettrick was a recent widow with an 8-year-old son who almost died from pneumonia. She was living in the family home with her brother-in-law Doss, who had secretly loved her since he met her after she married his brother Gabe. Doss wanted a relationship with Hannah, but Hannah was convinced, for a while, that Gabe would be her only love.

A teapot that kept moving around, a photo album that also moved, and a journal that was written in by both women showed that their lives had many parallels. They both found their loves and built their lives in this wonderful romance.

I firmly believe that every couple should have their own dedicated book. Generally speaking, I am not a fan of when an author splits a story between two pairs. However, in this case, it functions better than in any of the other books I have perused.

The characters are vivid and lively, yet still remain realistic and believable. Their interactions are engaging and well-executed. Nevertheless, due to the divisions, I have the impression that both halves of the story were somewhat underdeveloped and felt rushed. Despite this, they did manage to support each other in some rather interesting ways.

It would have been nice to see more in-depth exploration of each couple's relationship and the individual characters themselves. Perhaps with a bit more time and attention, the author could have fleshed out the story even further and made it an even more satisfying read. Overall, though, it was still an enjoyable book that had its own unique charm.

It was approximately 1 am when I finally completed book 4. I was extremely sleepy, yet nothing could prevent me from proceeding to book 5, namely "Sierra's Homecoming."

After reading the very first sentence which stated... "Present Day
“Stay in the car,” Sierra McKettrick told her seven-year-old son, Liam," I had the distinct feeling that I had been robbed! The subsequent few paragraphs detailed all of the gravestones that Sierra read, and the names engraved upon them were uncannily similar to those of my own family members. How could an author, after penning 4 remarkable historical romance stories, kill off all of the characters that she had made us fall in love with and then shift the series to the present day? I persisted in reading and was introduced to the relatives of each of the original children (a total of 5, as a daughter was born while the sons were in search of brides).

The author attempted to incorporate some sort of paranormal activity with another mother and child residing in the house simultaneously but in a different time period. It was strange and rather confusing. (I can scarcely keep my own family members' families straight in my mind, and now I have to figure out how all these people are related to those I read about from approximately 100 years ago!)

I ceased reading around chapter 3, feeling depressed and let down. I then made the mistake of continuing to read further in the series. The current-day cowboys were all billionaires, either single or divorced, and each book adhered to the same formula of cousins seeking a woman who just so happened to arrive in town and be the most beautiful gal they had ever laid eyes on. And they certainly engaged in a great deal of sexual activity. Perhaps the incredible characters of the first few books generated sufficient revenue to support the remaining cookie-cutter books in the series. It is such a pity to have spoiled what initially began as one of the BEST 4-book series that I have ever read.

This is a truly delightful book that immediately reminded me of the charming movie The Lake House. In this story, we have Sierra in the present and Hannah in the past, who are able to communicate with each other through writing in a journal.

What I loved the most about this book was the past story. Hannah, a widow, finds herself falling for her brother-in-law. The emotions and the developing relationship between them are beautifully portrayed.

The author has done an excellent job of creating two distinct worlds and seamlessly weaving them together through the journal. The characters are well-developed and the plot is engaging, keeping the reader hooked from start to finish.

If you're looking for a heartwarming and captivating read, this book is definitely worth checking out. It's a story of love, loss, and second chances that will leave you with a smile on your face.

3.5 stars really

What a huge shock! After falling for a new book boyfriend in Holt's star turn in McKettrick's Choice (McKettrick Cowboys, #4), I was certain the series would carry on with that generation. But nooooooo…..

Book 5 of the McKettrick series is a sudden and unexpected departure from the quartet that introduced this series. In fact, that entire generation is dead (you find out right on page 1 – and in hindsight, it's clear after reading the synopsis). Modern-day Sierra McKettrick, who appears to be a descendant several generations removed, decides to take advantage of her McKettrick roots for the sake of her son Liam's health. But she didn't anticipate the ranch caretaker to be the sexy thirty-something Travis Reid. As they exchange sly glances and fall under cupid's spell, we are introduced to a past generation of McKettricks – the grandchildren born between books 1 and 4 as widow Hannah McKettrick is raising her son Tobias. The parallel lives of the women have few differences and seem to be able to track the changes to an heirloom left by the earlier McKettricks. The men and the sons also seem to be making parallel steps. Basically, I felt like I was reading the same story in two different time periods, with a few paranormal elements thrown in for good measure. That's not to say the book isn't readable – it definitely is. However, it can be quite jarring if you don't read the very accurate synopsis first.

As with the previous books in the series, the women are prickly as they are pursued by the men. One of the new things is that you now have stubborn McKettrick women pairing off. The romance that blossoms in each thread is just as sweet and sexy as the previous ones – it's just double the pleasure this time around. As I mentioned, there are a couple of paranormal elements around the life parallels that fit in a way but also seem a bit out of place for this series. There are no surprises in terms of the depth of the characters, the layering of the stories, the entertainment in the coupling, or the very entertaining plotline.

This book is probably better than I'm giving it credit for because I was so shocked that I didn't get what I expected.
