Stephen Edwin King was born the second son of Donald and Nellie Ruth Pillsbury King. After his father left them when Stephen was two, he and his older brother, David, were raised by his mother. Parts of his childhood were spent in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where his father's family was at the time, and in Stratford, Connecticut. When Stephen was eleven, his mother brought her children back to Durham, Maine, for good. Her parents, Guy and Nellie Pillsbury, had become incapacitated with old age, and Ruth King was persuaded by her sisters to take over the physical care of them. Other family members provided a small house in Durham and financial support. After Stephen's grandparents passed away, Mrs. King found work in the kitchens of Pineland, a nearby residential facility for the mentally challenged.

Stephen attended the grammar school in Durham and Lisbon Falls High School, graduating in 1966. From his sophomore year at the University of Maine at Orono, he wrote a weekly column for the school newspaper, THE MAINE CAMPUS. He was also active in student politics, serving as a member of the Student Senate. He came to support the anti-war movement on the Orono campus, arriving at his stance from a conservative view that the war in Vietnam was unconstitutional. He graduated in 1970, with a B.A. in English and qualified to teach on the high school level. A draft board examination immediately post-graduation found him 4-F on grounds of high blood pressure, limited vision, flat feet, and punctured eardrums.

He met Tabitha Spruce in the stacks of the Fogler Library at the University, where they both worked as students; they married in January of 1971. As Stephen was unable to find placement as a teacher immediately, the Kings lived on his earnings as a laborer at an industrial laundry, and her student loan and savings, with an occasional boost from a short story sale to men's magazines.

Stephen made his first professional short story sale ("The Glass Floor") to Startling Mystery Stories in 1967. Throughout the early years of his marriage, he continued to sell stories to men's magazines. Many were gathered into the Night Shift collection or appeared in other anthologies.

In the fall of 1971, Stephen began teaching English at Hampden Academy, the public high school in Hampden, Maine. Writing in the evenings and on the weekends, he continued to produce short stories and to work on novels.

The first three books in this series were penned when Stephen King was in the prime of his youth.

They were filled with pure entertainment and engaging fiction that captivated readers.

However, the last three books were written after a life-altering accident that nearly took his life.

These later works are much more profound and thought-provoking, delving into deeper themes and emotions.

Interestingly, it has become evident that if all six books had been written simultaneously, the series would not have had the same level of impact.

Reading this series requires a significant investment of time, but it is well worth the effort.

The evolution of King's writing style and the different perspectives presented in each set of books make it a truly remarkable and rewarding experience for readers.

It showcases his growth as a writer and his ability to adapt and explore new territories in the world of literature.

This story just keeps getting better and better. It's truly amazing how he manages to continuously come up with such engaging storylines. Each installment seems to build upon the previous ones, creating a captivating and immersive world.

I have high hopes for the next installment. I hope it is just as well put together as the first two. The attention to detail and the way the story unfolds have been truly impressive.

In a few days, I will be starting the next one. I can't wait to see what new adventures and challenges await the characters. \"The Waist lands\" is sure to be another cliffhanger, leaving me on the edge of my seat and eager for more.

I'm really enjoying this series and I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes next. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a good story.

The Dark Tower series (1-7) holds a special place in my heart, just as the Harry Potter series does for many others. It is, without a doubt, the most fulfilling long-term reading experience of my life. Stephen King himself refers to it as his magnum opus, and rightfully so. This series is a genre-smasher, incorporating elements of the spaghetti western, a fantastical journey, and even a touch of autobiography, all while adding a pinch of horror for good measure.

King has masterfully created a world that is rich and vibrant, filled with unforgettable characters. He has also developed a unique language that he uses to explore profound ideas such as "Ka." Ka, which combines the concepts of fate, destiny, and karma, weaves its way through the entire story, adding depth and complexity.

Reading the Dark Tower series is a significant time investment, but in my humble opinion, it is well worth it. The story is engaging, the characters are relatable, and the ideas are thought-provoking. It is a series that will stay with you long after you have turned the final page.

Epic series.

I started reading this in middle school, and it was only recently that Stephen King finally finished it.

This series is extremely imaginative, with a unique fantasy twist.

Interestingly, fantasy is not typically something that I'm overly into.

However, this series managed to capture my attention and hold it throughout.

The storylines are complex and engaging, filled with unexpected turns and vividly described characters.

To truly understand the magic and allure of this series, one simply has to read it.

It's a journey that takes you to another world, a world filled with wonder and excitement.

Even if you're not a die-hard fan of fantasy, give this series a chance.

You might be surprised at how much you end up enjoying it.

Stephen King's writing is masterful, and he has created a world that will stay with you long after you've turned the final page.

So, what are you waiting for? Dive into this epic series and discover its secrets for yourself.
