Ray Bradbury bilim kurgu/fantastik/korku türlerini sevenlerin öve öve bitiremediği yazarlardan. Sadece Fahrenheit 451 kitabını okumuştum, diğer eserleri istek listemdeydi. Yorumlarını severek takip ettiğim Rygard'ın Topraktan Dönenler ile ilgili yazdıklarını okuyunca Rygard yorum kütüphaneden ödünç aldım hemen.

Her ne kadar İthaki Yayınları Karanlık Kitaplar serisine eklemiş ve goodreadste korku etiketi konulmuş olsa da gerçeküstü minnoş hikayeler var burada. Hikayeleri okumadan önce yazarın sonsözüne göz atmanızı tavsiye ederim. Karakterlerinin ilhamını akrabalarından aldığı, hatta karakterlere isimlerini vererek onları sonsuza kadar yaşatmak istediği, metni başlangıçta Addams ailesinin yaratıcısı Charles Addams ile ortak bir proje olarak tasarladığı fakat o projenin maddi kaynak yetersizliğinden bir türlü hayata geçirilemediği gibi ayrıntılardan bahsetmiş yazar.

Charles Addams nasıl egzantrik ve sevimli-korkunç Addams ailesini yarattıysa Ray Bradbury de kendi egzantrik karakterleri ile Elliot ailesini yaratmış. Hayaletler, ruhu olan bir ev, konuşan hayvanlar, başka bedenlere yolculuklar, vampirler, şaşkın insanlar, mezarından kalkıp gelenler derken hikayeler çılgın bir hal alıyor. Not: Çeviri daha iyi olabilirdi. İlk hikayelerde dilde tutukluk vardı. Bazı hikayelerde Arapça, Farsça kökenli pek kullanılmayan kelimeler tercih edilmiş. Sebebini tahmin edebiliyorum fakat kitabın geneli ile karşılaştırıldığında sırıtıyor bence.

This is a Halloween classic. When I first read it, it seemed a little disjointed, but now after the fourth or fifth re-reading, I think it fits together nicely. I'm still not sure if I completely understand it, but I always enjoy Bradbury's beautiful writing style.

As usual with Bradbury, the language and images here are really lovely and evocative. The story, in this case, is somewhat uneven and I was disappointed by how little was made of the intriguing tidbits and references to mysterious characters and events. Part of the problem is that this is really a collection of tales, featuring the same characters but written over a period of years and published separately, and so there are inconsistencies, changes in tone, and hints of stories which might have been developed and then weren't. Still, there are a few really excellent stories, and they all have some delightful elements.

Un libro precioso, hecho de historias conectadas entre sí con unas descripciones mágicas y cargadas de belleza. Los personajes no están vivos, pero son muy especiales, parecen vampiros, pero el autor lo deja en duda. Ya había leído antes a Bradbury y me encantan sus historias, este libro me ha recordado mucho a Garcia Márquez, por los personajes, por lo que cuenta y por cómo lo cuenta. Son como pequeños cuentos narrados de una manera poética y visual, lo recomiendo.

When I was a teen and young adult, I read everything Bradbury and all the sci-fi and fantasy authors at that time. He was one of my favorites. I don't remember this book, so I grabbed this up.
Once I started it, I still didn't remember it. Finished it, and I didn't feel like I read a Ray Bradbury book. It was entertaining but not the brilliance I knew. Maybe an off book. Maybe my memory is going bad.

I didn't fully understand what was going on at any point in this story. The writing was beautiful though.

Bradbury's fantastic and very gothic tale of the truly odd Elliott family.

"To say that most of them slept days and worked at odd occupations nights would fall short of commencement.
To remark that some of them could read minds, and some fly with lightnings to land with leaves, would be an understatement".

Just a sampling of Bradbury's brilliant lyricism. The tale tells the story of young boy Timothy's gainful insight into the disturbed nature of his undead relatives, and his questioning as to whether he feels suited to their way of 'life'. The pacing is excellent and the poeticism of Bradbury's writing here is astounding. A perfect curl up on a blustery cool autumn day kind of read, or for simply when in need for a dark, macabre story.

Imprescindible

Ray Bradbury was a masterful storyteller, using lyrical and poetic prose, immersing the reader completely. And yet, sadly for me, this one wasn’t for me. There were parts and characters I truly loved, but overall I struggled to stay with it despite it being only 200 pages. It is written beautifully, there just isn’t enough to grab me as I’m used to with RB.

Honestly I was far more interested in learning how Ray Bradbury and Charles Addams (creator of the Addams Family) met and collaborated on the original short story and its artwork of the Elliott family. I happened to purchase a slightly used, like new copy of this book which is a first edition, and the artwork on the cover, by Charles Addams, is exquisite.
