With this book I finally see the appeal of this series and am excited to read the rest of them. What I really like is the interaction with all of the dark hunters and the others like them. Yes, they aren't always in a group, but the camaraderie is great with them. I loved seeing Kryian and Julian to tease mercilessly Talon about the pink towel and loosing his clothes, Nick flipping crap to everyone, but especially Ash.
I really liked Sunshine, yes she was flaky, but for some reason it worked for me. I loved how she slowly started to remember her past life and didn't freak out with this new world that she learned about. I liked how Talon did his best to protect Sunshine, even when it hurt her.
I really like the connection to all the Greek Gods, some of them really make me laugh. It is also interesting the secrets that some of the characters hide. I look forward to reading more in this series.
Talon has lived for centuries, he traded his soul for vengence to the god Artemis, and is part of a group of vampire hunters known as "the dark hunters" with Acheron as their leader. Talon is without feeling or emotion, has a passion for coffee and is cursed the god Camulus, to lose everything he has and will love. In modern day New Orleans, during Mardi Gras celebration, Talon is run over by a runaway float, is injured and is saved by a gorgeous woman, Sunshine Runningwolf. Sunshine, is a artist and painter, and she her greatest passion is her easel and exploring her talent. She lives in a den of pink, lives off soy products, and isn't looking for any commitment...until she meets Talon. From their first day together passion ignites, and this couple can barely keep their hands off each other. Talon knows that he can never have anything with Sunshine, but there is a deep connection and when they keep getting thrown together, and Sunshine being hunted by his enemies, these soul mates will have to rely on each other to survive their enemies that are bent on their destruction...
Night Embrace is the second book in the Dark Hunter series. For years I have seen this author popping up, and so I decided I had to try her out. So I found Night Embrace at my local library and I picked it up before anyone else could. I had high expectations for this book and it blew me away after reading it. I don't think there was anything that I didn't like....it has everything you need in a paranormal romance!! There is such imagination in the plot and this fierce and passionate world of were's and vampires, demons, gods, and hunters. Before I even picked this up, I had a feeling that this story would be sexy and fun and I was right!!
What a pair Talon and Sunshine make together, and I was on their cheer team from the very beginning. Talon is one fierce warrior, and in the beginning he seems dark and aloof and without any emotion except for the joy he feels with his cup of coffee. Then when seeing some vampires to kill, he finds himself stuck in a pink everywhere loft, and with a quirky woman that stirs his desire like none other. Talon is quite a bit of a tortured hero we have here. He has lost his wife, child, parents and sister to his enemy. He lives a desolate life of killing and serve to Artemis. I loved Talon as the hero, and what a tasty male he is. I just wanted to gobble him up. He was protective, fierce, alpha all the way and what a fighter he is especially for Sunshine. Sunshine, well she was different, but I really liked her from the get go. She is fun, quirky, and unique. She takes everything in stride, and doesn't have panic attacks from learning about Talon, I love how accepting she is of Talon. There is quite a strong connection and what a emotional roller coaster this story is. Overall a winner of a paranormal romance. A wonderful blend of memorable characters, intense packed plot, enough steam to give you sunburn, a love story to steal your heart!! A KEEPER!!
So many things happened in this, I don't even know where to start. Sherrilyn Kenyon's writing getting better with each book now, but it's still repetitive. This book's plot was better than Night Pleasure's, and I liked Talon and Sunshine. A lot of flashback was in this, I enjoyed it in the beginning, but then they were just kept on repeating the same things. I didn't really liked what happened after Talon got his soul back, the end was of full things I didn't care about, like Acheron and Artemis (
I'm rereading this series via audio book to distract myself during 12 weeks of radiation treatment. I was generous in my score before. It is funny, so it's doing the job of distracting me. The male accents are hilarious. It's like all the guys are from Transylvania.
3.5 stars. I keep waiting for this series to wow me. I prefer Jacquelyn Frank's Nightwalkers series or Rebecca Zanetti's Dark Protectors series.
I'm not a fan that each Dark Hunter must be saved in the same way. Also if all the Dark Hunters fall in love and regain their humanity, who will protect the humans from the daimons? Also, why must they all be arrogant jerks, I understand them being strong, lethal alpha loner warriors, but that doesn't mean they will be snarky, anti-authority sex machines.
Characters are mentioned or briefly appear without necessity in order to introduce them for subsequent stories. It's just distracting and I wish the book's characters had more depth instead.
Lust is not love. I am not a fan of a man falling for a woman who reminds him of a previous lover. And we were constantly told that Talon loved Sunshine and how she was different from his previous wife, Nynia, but he kept thinking of Nynia and comparing the 2 incarnations.
Julianna has a great review listing Dark Hunter and name of book.

With-reservations: prejudice, violence, murder, torture, betrayal, cursed, reincarnation, sexual situations
Pyramid of Protection: Dark-Hunters: pursue those who feed on human blood & souls Dream-Hunters: go after the energy- and dreamsuckers Were-Hunters: stalk the slayers
Daimons: Vampires on steroids with a God complex. Appolites who have turned Daimon will drain blood and soul from humans every few weeks to remain alive. Called Inkblots because of strange black mark on their chests when they change from Apollites to human slayers.
Appollites: Apollo lay with a nymph to create superior race as a bet with Zeus. 3 days later, first 4 Apollites were born. 3 days later they grew to adulthood, and 3 days later they ruled the earth. Zeus banished Apollites to Atlantis. Greeks sent a beautiful woman to Apollo and he got her knocked up. Apollites killed her and the unborn and staged it to look like an animal attack. Apollo found out and destroyed Atlantis. Apollo cursed Apollites with animal traits: fangs and honed senses. They were already strong, fast & psychic. Can't stand sun and must drink blood from other Apollites every few days. Apollites only live thrice nine years, on 27th birthday they die a slow and painful death where their bodies disintegrate into dust over 24 hours. Usually either kill themselves on day before their 27th birthday or they turn Daimo by killing humans and gathering the human's soul to prolong their lives.
Dark-Hunters: Fast, strong, heal quickly. Immortal warriors who hunt vampires to protect humans from Daimons. Can sense dawn, eyes sensitive to light. Must hunt alone, if Dark-Hunters team up, the team's powers and strength weaken. Can mind control weak-minded humans. Fangs but don't need to drink blood. Artemis takes their souls. Oath of secrecy to not reveal Dark Hunter nature. If Dark Hunters injure another Dark Hunter, they also receive what wounds they inflict.
Artemis created the Dark-Hunters. Artemis comes to a human who has been seriously wronged and offers to make him a Dark-Hunter in exchange for a single act of vengeance against those who wronged them then service to Artemis protecting humans from Daimons. Acheron "Ash" is first Dark Hunter and leader of the group.
To leave Dark-Hunters, get your soul back from Artemis, must find a way to drain your powers, then die. Someone who loves you must hold your soul burning in their bare hands while you die then return it to your body.

Usually romance books have very defined male heroes and barely sketched female counterparts, I believe that is do to the male hero being the fantasy of the author and the target audience, but in this case all the heroes are so so over the fucking top, the girl looks interesting by contrast. So what do you get when you described a hero as the tallest, most beautifulest with chiseled cheekbones and an alpha hyper testosterone attitude and then you have to get it together with the other heroes you described the exact same way to star on other books you want to put on the market? Exhausted, that's what you get. This hundreds upon hundreds of years old warriors act like hormone filled teenagers the second they are with each other, are constantly jumping at each other throats for the minimal insult and are all together stupid. Pretty, but stupid. All of them are described as either "lethal", "predator" and obviously "dangerous" but they melt at the sight of a baby. Argh.
Listen girls if all this helps you go back to your accountant husband later, good for you, but I rather chat up a geek in a comic book store.
