In realtà 4,5 stelline.

Adoro!

I am (slowly) working my way through this series and re-reading it before the movie premiers. I laughed my way through the books the first time and really got a kick out of it. And I am laughing again the second time 'round too; however, I am starting to realize that Becky is - to put it quite frankly - DUMB! Who does the things that she does? And then gets by with it? Pure dumb luck is the only thing that pulls her out of the strange and contradictory situations that this girl gets herself into.

But Luke Brandon - I just adore Luke. Even if he is an obsessed, over-the-top workaholic who is attracted to airheads. Kinsella writes Luke so well that you really don't need to hop into his head to know what he is thinking. And I just loved it when he gives Becky the special scarf that he secretly bought at her clothes auction. It made my heart go pitter patter. =) Only a man like Luke would overlook something as stupid as FedEx-ing your clothes to a hotel and not packing a small bag "just in case".

I have high hopes for the movie. The script re-write appears to be funnier and smarter than the books.

People learn to make better choices. This protagonist did not improve at all. We know addictions are real. Our issue was the unending, unrelated nonsense this author piled onto her story, until we could barely stand to read it. It felt like a hack had paraded out every movie cliché with a visual effect in mind; except her concoctions were worse. Perhaps we did not find Sophie Kinsella funny because we are not English. However, we both think Graham Norton and his many varied guests are marvellous.

When Kerri & I tried these two series openers, we hoped to giggle in girlish fun; not hold each other’s hands through garbage that rocked our blood pressure. Instead of discussions, we vented. I avoid the word “hate” but it was provoked often. We might have felt relieved if this obscenely stupid personage had died in the fictional story. Kerri left one star. I left two because I have read worse.

Shopaholic Takes Manhattan” 2001, should have been an improvement. A thirty year-old knew enough about finance to answer calls on TV. Not being an expert made her compassionate. She earned enough to clear all debt. Her new boyfriend suited her. The author’s absurd ideas made her character too shallow to like.

She drove her boyfriend’s car out of a parking lot and stopped, when there was no one to admire her in the vehicle!

This character was so incapable of assigning one or two outfits to a week-end trip..... she couriered a load! The parcel did not arrive. THAT was the sole time in the entire novel, she was strict about NOT buying anything? She wore a t-shirt, as if imbecility were an admirable discipline! The excuses to buy things she did not need throughout the rest of the book were jaw-dropping.

20/20

“I'll show Luke I can fit into the city. I'll show him I can be a true New Yorker. I'll go the gym, and then I'll eat a bagel, and I'll ... shoot someone, maybe?

Or maybe just the gym will be enough.”

Okay, so for some reason when I first read this book back in 2015 I rated it 2 stars??!!

I have no idea what lemonade I was sipping back then because I was obviously drunk on something. This book deserved way better than my wack-ass 2 star rating.

Hopefully this review will redeem myself because Shopaholic Takes Manhattan was so freaking good!

I guess I should start off with some spoilers.

SO I was so sad that Derek Smeath was retiring in this book but I did like that the new guy, John Gavin definitely gave Rebecca the swift kick in the ass she needed. Boy, did she have so much freaking debt that I found it quite ridiculous that one person could do that much damage. But I guess she really is obsessed with shopping. Then there's Luke, sweet sweet Luke, who I am very happy his business is still alive and well in this book thanks to Becca but I'm also really happy that the book ended with them being together again. I needed that so much because I'm kind of obsessed with their relationship.

THEN there's Alicia - ugh I didn't like her in the first book, or the movie of the first book, and I definitely still hated the bitch in this book. So, thanks for that consistency Sophie. I'm super glad she got called out for her bitchiness and unprofessional work-behavior because I don't know what I would've done if Luke's business failed and Alicia won the London bank or whatever. I would've cried into the book. Other than that I still like Becca's friendship with Suze but I really liked her new friendship with Michael.

Overall, it was a great book and a really quick read. I can't wait to re-read the next book.

This is not the kind of book I usually read, but my father, fully aware of my handbag addiction, had given me one of the sequels for my birthday once, and since I recently visited Manhattan for the first time, I thought "Shopaholic Takes Manhattan" could be fun. But I found that in this book, Shopaholics shopping addiction is a bit over the top even for her, seeing that she almost becomes bankrupt twice because of it, and then sells everything she owns. I had also been hoping for more Manhattan, but there were almost no recognizable descriptions.

Still, considering that it took me a bit less than two hours to read the book, two hours in which I didn't think about studying at all, I don't feel as if I have wasted my money (or rather, that my father has wasted his). Just that it could have been spend better.

Short Review: I think that the fact that i read two of Sophie's books in just 1 day should be reason enough for others to pick up her books! I'm so glad to be getting into the Shopaholic series again. They flow so well from one book to another. I was on the edge of my seat for this one, i knew something was going to go down but i didn't expect two things! Again, a too clean ending, especially since it's a series and the ending could have a been a huge cliff hanger but instead i got some cleanness. Oh well, on to book 3 :D

After multiple attempts ending in did-not-finish, I finally made it to page 20 before firmly putting it on the 'for donation' box.

It is just a wiring style that maybe I have outgrown. The writing style is light, fluffy and entertaining it is obviously not meant to be taken seriously, it is meant to be a fun, lighthearted, girlie read for a bit of a laugh. Probably it's target audience is young women who do shop to excess...a little bit.

While looking for a humorous book, I did not find this humorous, I found it grim. The opening letters from the bank manager, regarding an overdraft in the thousands, apparently run up in order that the leading lady be able to feed her shopping addiction do not make me laugh, they make me squirm and it all goes downhill from there.

Maybe I got old and cranky, but this book is emphatically not for me.

I found this book at a roadside library that made me want to pick up the series again after randomly finding the third installment in middle school. Thanks, traffic detour!

Once again, Becky Bloomwood renews my faith in this series with a stellar ending. The way Kinsella writes a ho-hum plot that inevitably rockets into a great ending reminds me of a Gillian Flynn book in reverse. (Flynn is a more superior writer in every way, but needs more finesse in wrapping up).

In this installation, Becky finds herself in New York with Luke establishing a new branch in Manhattan for his company. After a few awkward encounters in London, she is all but happy to oblige. New York is a fashion capital that she wants NEEDS to get her Prada gloves on.

I was bored initially with the beginning of the book for she was back to her shopaholic ways with absolutely no self control. After a major bombshell dropped and the book progressed, I was once again pleasantly surprised. Becky went through another character growth and took care of her responsibilities. I was proud, as a reader, of her decisions. The end of this book was so sweet and I can't wait to read the next installment. Minor points off for slow pace and mild frustration, but the denouement was supreme.Plus, congratulations for the significant decrease of Luke Brandon's enigmatic looks!

I feel as if this could be my new Princess Diaries, yet without the as beloved characters and Cabot's stronger writing. It's a quick easy read that always puts a smile on my face. I wouldn't necessarily make Becky my personal shopper, but at least she knows what she's talking about.

this book pissed me off so bad i cant. but to start off i did enjoy her taking over manhattan because in my head she was always one paragraph away from running into carrie bradshaw so i was quite excited. and what a beautiful collab that wouldve been.. but luke pissed me off so bad kinsella really reached the peak of their romance in the subtle build up in the first book where becky pretends she dgafs only to gaf a lot.. yes i enjoyed that.. but luke here is so annoying when the article comes out. he KNOWS she has a shopping problem as evidenced by the fact that their "meet-cute" was fueled by said shopping problem but lets pretend he doesn't know. even then he knows she lies all the time and every time he finds it endearing. and then when the article drops he acts like it came out of nowhere brah this woman lies about everything and every time he sees her she has bought a new item of clothing. her damn roommate is monitoring her expenses. HELLO. i legit can't. also the whole thing with becky's neighbors not believing she was dating luke was sooo sad i was so mad for her. the casual incest side couple was kinda hilarious. yes i knew it would happen because i read the other books synopses but i assumed the cousin thing would be explained as them not really being cousins and instead close family friends. but no they're cousins who are fucking. life is so beautiful

“Adoro fare shopping all’estero.
