In this sequel to the ever-famous 'Confessions of a Shopaholic' we find Becky in another crisis just this time we have the luxury to live New York through the author's eyes.
Becky is a perfectionist procrastinator without the perfectionism. Bill, work, responsibilities and lies all keep piling up in her life till one day she has to face the music.
Filled with some very laughable thinking and acting process of Becky Bloomwood it is worth a read because who doesn't love a typical all's well that ends well type of books sometimes.

It’s like leading an alcoholic to all the best hidden bars. Oh, Becky. I liked this one even more than the first. A funny, engaging series with a heroine who has zero self-control when it comes to spending money she doesn’t have. Cringe-worthy at times but written with entertainment in mind and well-meaning underlying themes.

This is a good, fun, quick read. I think Becky needs to control her spending so that she doesn't get into too much trouble with debt.
The ending was my favourite part because it was so unexpected. I think that throughout this book, Becky become more mature and understanding and it made happy. I loved the movie, so when I found out that half of the movie was this book and the previous book, I was impressed because they made a good movie from two books and took only the best parts of each book. Recommended for fans of the movie.

A friend lent me this book and I put it off for quite a while. I shouldn’t have - Sophie Kinsella is an extremely - and I mean extraordinarily - funny writer and I could barely stop laughing many times throughout my read. While some may find the novel shallow or refuse to consider it a piece of sophisticated literature, Shopaholic has been a great source of comfort to me in dark times, as it was to my (smart) friend who has been dealing with the same illness. It really is a wonderful book, pure escapism built competently around an engaging storyline, featuring a relatable protagonist naively navigating her way through modern society’s challenges with an unrivalled ease and lust for life. Naturally, Becky’s tendency to find herself in the most absurd and awkward situations becomes cartoonish ever so often, but this was exactly what I sought out and signed up for. I wish the very sympathetic author all the best and hope she somehow miraculously survives that horrible brain cancer. I’ll definitely read some more of her books. And I urge other people to also read fun books if they feel like it instead of forcing their way through certain classics that they feel obliged to finish but don‘t actually enjoy :)

Becky and Luke are now together, but Luke turns out to be the kind of man who is always busy with his work. He cancels out on dinners and weekend trips, holidays and meeting with parents on a regular basis, so much so that Becky's parents haven't even set eyes on him and the neighbours have a rumour going on that Luke does not exist at all. When Tom gets married to Lucy, all hell breaks loose because Becky desperately wants to be seen as a couple with Luke - who has again got caught up with work!

Why is Luke so busy? He is trying to move to New York and set up business there. Excited at the idea of moving to Manhattan, Becky does what she does best - goes shopping and gets into debt.

This book was hilariously funny, and I especially enjoyed the wedding scenes. But I don't think Becky deserved a second chance and that part was not fun at all. Get into debt once, you are to be pitied, get out of it, you are a hero. Get into debt twice, you are just stupid.

This book wasn't as hilarious as the first dose in the shopaholic series, however, it still had it's moments of pure gold.

"Why on earth declutter when you can just shrink-wrap?"

I think maybe this book was a bit more of grown-up Becky life and that's why her real life problems and shopping addiction just didn't seem as well-spirited as in book 1.

I still adored all the characters and especially that ending where I felt like she finally found herself after two books of looking!

Another good point I extracted from reading this was how she's developed into an independent woman, who can stand on her own two feet and solve her own problems and become somebody that she wants to be, as opposed to who she's being told to be.

Becky Bloomwood. I read about what's going on in her head, but I still don't understand it. I don't see how she could think that some of the things she does are logical.

I really liked the change of scenery, but I was worried I was going to get a over-stereotyped version of New York/America (like in the Georgia Nicolson series). That was not the case! I'm really pleased with how it was done actually. Although I don't understand why both Becky and Georgia think all Americans are so nice. People aren't that nice to everyone.

Again she made up lies that she really shouldn't have. They're hilarious, but completely ridiculous and pointless.  I would have been so embarrassed at the wedding. The cost definitely didn't outweigh the benefit.

That argument in the hotel room! They both had good points, but I didn't agree with everything one or the other said. I definitely think Luke needs to spend less time working. Becky needs to spend less money shopping. I knew he was the one bidding on the scarf. I don't know if Luke or Becky are actually going to follow through. SUZE AND TARQUIN. I couldn't believe it.

I'm sure I'll start the next one at some point, but not anytime soon. I've got so many other things to read!

It’s a whole new beginning. It’s yellow taxicabs and skyscrapers, and Woody Allen and Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The weird thing is that although I’ve never actually been to New York, I already feel an affinity toward it.

************************************************

Then she turned to me and smiled brightly, and said, “I’ve always thought you would suit New York, Becky. It’s the perfect place for you.”

************************************************

Tiffany’s. It’s Tiffany’s, right in front of me! I mean, this is what New York is all about. Little blue boxes, and white ribbon, and those gorgeous silver beans.

************************************************

I mean, visiting any shop for the first time is exciting. There’s always that electric buzz as you push open the door; that hope, that belief, that this is going to be the shop of all shops, which will bring you everything you ever wanted, at magically low prices. But this is a thousand times better. A million times. Because this isn’t just any old shop, is it? This is a world-famous shop. I’m actually here. I’m in Saks on Fifth Avenue in New York.

************************************************

I dump my stuff on the table and look around the bright, buzzing room at the girls milling about, grabbing at merchandise, trying on scarves, piling their arms full of glossy new gorgeous things. And I feel a sudden warmth, an overwhelming realization. These are my people. I’ve found my homeland.

************************************************

But at the same time, half of me wants to run away, give up on the idea, and buy myself a nice pair of shoes to commiserate.

************************************************

The reason my stomach feels so hollow and my hands feel so damp is that this really matters to me. I can’t tell myself I don’t care and it’s not important, like I do about most things. Because this really does matter.

************************************************

Limos and flowers; waxed eyebrows and designer clothes from Barneys; a purse stuffed with business cards of TV executives. These are my people; this is where I’m meant to be. My old life seems a million, zillion miles away, like a tiny dot on the horizon.

************************************************

And to start my life all over again. Another chance. That’s all I want.

************************************************

I feel as though that whole part of my life is over. Luke, America, television, everything. Time to start again.

************************************************

It’s feng shui! You have to let things out of your life to allow the new good things in.

Ok, so I finished the series, mostly because I don't like to leave things unfinished rather than I was hooked. The thing is the characters are very underdeveloped and you have a hard time caring what happens to them. Even the main character, all you really know about her is she has a spending addiction and she can spin a tale. Almost all the characters are in all the books, yet we really don't know anything about them. Luke, works a lot, has a need to impress his mother and keeps upcoming major life changing events from his girlfriend/wife.
Suze, the best friend, she is crafty and supportive of her best friend. We don't even know really why she all of a sudden fell for her distant cousin.

After reading 4 books, you would think the characters would be your best friends or part of your family, but they are all so shallow that they are forgettable.

My advice, skip the series, really more annoying than funny. And so many other good books out there.
