Unfortunately, the ending to this series did not have a satisfactory ending. Very anti-climatic and still lots of loose ends. Plus, why dragons? It felt so out there compared to the rest of the story. I was disappointed at the end, especially after reading 12 books. Could have been tied up much better than it was.

I would've given this a higher rating if it wasn't for the ending - which I will proceed to act that it is not canon. I get what the author was trying to do but I felt (kinda?) betrayed by this, Darren should've been a fictional character, not what the author intended him to be. The ending made the whole thing (the whole damn series) feels like nothing - like nothing happened which is kinda true now? According to the ending? It's the same equivalent to 'it's all just a dream'.

If it wasn't for the 2/3 of the book - which I truly adored and loved - I would've given this one star.

Damn it. I'm disappointed tbh. This series is amazing, addictive, truly great characters, plot and such great themes were explored too but the ending will not do the series justice and that is heartbreaking to me.

If you want a fairytale ending where nothing bad happens to the characters read another series (Twilight, which I also like, is a good candidate). By the time you read this last one you will be used to plenty of people suffering, which is why I really liked the ending.

*Spoiler Alert* Please do not read if you haven't finished!

Giving Darren a second chance to avoid being a vampire, or having it all be a dream is something I often expected while reading the entire series because it was hard to accept so much suffering happening to a child. I like this series because the author breaks these rules and does not restrict Darren from horrible things that are possible for someone at any age. Although a complete fantasy, the fact that he is so young and goes through so much torment is at times shocking, and makes the series worth its weight. There are enough authors, with all due respect, that want everything to end perfectly for the main character.

Thankfully the series is not a dream for Darren, but something a bit more interesting- an alternate reality that he is able to change. There were a few problems I found with this. I can't help wondering why he would pawn his destiny off to another poor unsuspecting soul who now must take his place, as explained by Evanna the witch. How can he feel good about that? After his fierce loyalty to the vampires in the end it's like oh well what ever happens, happens as long as I'm free from that wretched lake of souls and my evil daddy. Even though he believes this new child will succeed in setting things right, and ultimately die nobly, I don't see how this is guaranteed. I assumed that Evanna's twins will take the place of Darren and Steve, but this is never confirmed. Also it is hard to understand why Darren cannot be himself anymore, but must die in his new body as a Little Person when he splits his soul. Apparently, he also splits his consciousness? This doesn't make sense to me from the novel's explanation or lack there of.

But despite those few uneasy wonderings, I feel this book was amazing because it tied the whole entire series up with a very much needed ending in which Darren is finally at peace with himself and free of so much pain. Also, he didn't believe in becoming evil and destroying the world, which gives us hope that what Des Tiny wills can be overcome by one who is determined not to allow it to consume him. RIP Darren Shan.

The ending to this series was a total disappointment. I read 12 books to get to an ending that sucked. I can't belive that Darren Shan ended the story the way that he did. It was like he was tired of writing it and just said, hmmm, here you go...I'm done.

Not at all what I was expecting.. Loved the book.. I was definitely surprised when Darren was pulled from the Lake of Souls and then was told that he was turning into a little person. I wasn’t expecting that but was surprised at what E had in mind for Darren.

Khm, so yeah, this is an awesome series. I loved it. This ending may be a little too intense for my taste, but that relevation, OMFG.

So, thanks Darren.

This book is from one of the greatest vampire series i have ever read. Not to bash on the twighlight series or any other vampire series, but i would have to say that they just don't compare. For instance every person who knows anything about vampire lore knows that vampires cannot come out in light! No if ands or buts about it! yet other vampire series would have you believe that vampires are sparkling love twisted undead teens. Do not believe in this new rise of "want to be" vampires stick to the basics like Darren Shan has. For instance he keeps the tradition and has them burn in the light, also he shows them as what they are, vampires! Bloodthirsty vampires, not desperate housewives vampire version.

The book is the final in the Cirque Du Freak series and is a masterpiece. Darren finally gets to meet his worst enemy in one final confrontation. Who wins? Darren or Steve? The final battle is epic it is insane, however i will not give it away but let me just say that it will keep you on the edge of your seat, like the entire series has! So if you love vampires who fight their evil blood crazed counterparts then you will love Darren Shan's Cirque Du Freaks, especially the final part of saga, Sons of Destiny!
