This was wonderful for anyone in love with maritime Canada or the northeast US in general. Anne is such a likable character and really grows up during the course of this book. At times I got irked by all of the religious messages, but it wasn't too in my face and I guess that it should be expected from that time period anyway.
An absolute classic of all time. I read it over and over again as a child and recently read it with my ten-year-old daughter who enjoyed it too. Reading it as an adult I particularly admired the way the passage of time was handled, and the way that Anne matures as a character as the book goes on.
Read this book at the right age and was intensely passionate about it. The emotional attachment to this, one of the building blocks of my life, still remains strong.
The ultimate nice book. This is a book that proves that stories aren't about events, they're about people and conflict. I love Anne, Marilla, Diana, and Matthew, and every time I re-read this book, I cry. But it's the good kind of crying.
Addition 5/2010: I listed to Barbara Caruso's reading of this book, and it was brilliant. Listening to it made me realize how this is almost as much Marilla's story as it is Anne's.
