Charming heroine; I liked it even more after seeing the filmed version with Megan Follows, Colleen Dewhurst and Richard Farnsworth, which absolutely nails it.
I have always loved the movie of Anne of Green Gables, it was enchanting to read about all the characters I feel like I knew so well already, its a book that is filled with humor, creativity and character that seems hard to find these days.
A couple people in my writing group say my main character reminds them of Anne, but I can hardly remember her, so I figured maybe I should read it again.
I probably wouldn't have enjoyed this book when I was little because of Anne's rambling and imagination but I thought the story flowed very well and kept me interested despite its restrictions as a female novel preventing Anne from engaging in more perilous adventures.
It took me forever to read this book! I loved it though. As someone who "suffers" from red hair myself, I just love Anne. The girl has a flair for the dramatic and a very active imagination. My grandma gave me the first three books of this series when I was about 9. She read them as a young girl and thought I'd enjoy them. Never read them until now (almost 20 years later), but it makes me feel close to her and miss her. I'm looking forward to reading the rest!
Anne is charming and adorable and oh so frustrating. Her imagination entices us and her innocent nature makes us laugh. She is Oliver Twist, the orphan who finally is given a home. She is the girl they couldn't send back. She is irresistible as she grows from a reckless dreamer to a mature woman. She is the adventure of our youth, the love we bear for our personal stories and legends, the times we dare ourselves to show them what we can do. She is not frozen in Green Gables, she is the expansiveness of the human spirit and mind, uncaged.
classic from my adolescent years. Not only did I read all the books in this series. I abosolutely fell in love with the miniseries and went around for days saying, "I'm sorry Anne" in my put-on Canadian accent. It was great. Seriously, this is a wonderful book that all coming of agers should read. It covers everyday life with everyday relationships and problems. It is wholesome; it is joyful; it is lovely. Highly recommended...but fare warning, you will fall in love with Gilbert
