Summary: In Dr.Seuss’ I Can Read with My Eyes Shut, Cat in the Hat encourages Young Cat to learn what reading is all about. The ironic title is repeated throughout the book as something that makes reading much harder and Dr. Seuss then gives example after example of how much fun you have while reading. The rhyming pattern and colorful pictures add to the message about all the things you can do if you keep your eyes open inside of shut.

Teaching tool: Teaches colors, feelings, rhyming, passion for reading, variety of places and things that can be read, perfect amount of silly compared to some Dr. Seuss books which are a little too zany for some readers. Includes the famous quotes about all the things you learn while reading, author’s note teaches perseverance by sharing with readers that it took many attempts to get someone to read his first children’s book! This book would be appropriate for many grade-levels and lessons. I would use to with my former fifth graders towards the beginning of the year to inspire a love of reading.

Like any Dr. Seuss’ children’s book, I Can Read with My Eyes Shut! is just as fast paced, colorful, and exciting. As there is not an actual story line, except for addressing the moral of the story which is the importance to read. It also allows the reader to realize that reading doesn’t have to be as bad or boring as one might think it may be. It does this by listing multiple ways (often silly ways) a person can read. The idea of the book is to make reading fun and it definitely does that.
For a beginning reader, this is a great book. Dr. Seuss always goes out of the ordinary with his work and this book captures that for sure. It rhymes like all other Dr. Seuss’ books do. As well, the vibrant colors and crazy imagination when it comes to drawings are all the sort of things children love. There are many exciting things to see and read on each page almost unorganized but Dr. Seuss finds a way to make it work brilliantly. I know for myself, I have always loved Dr. Seuss’ books as a child and reading this one just now reminded me of why. This book brings joy when reading it, you get lost in the pictures, and you definitely can’t read it just once!

This Dr. Seuss book talks about many of the places that you can read, and stuff you can read about. The title talks about reading with your eyes shut, but the story begins to talk about how it is extremely difficult to do, and if you do it then you will have a hard time enjoying the stuff that you read. Therefore it is best to keep your eyes wide open so that you can read about anything that you could possibly want to read and also you can visit places using your reading skills and imagination.
tI think that after reading this book, since it’s a funky fun book you can let the students have fun with an assignment. Maybe have them write a few crazy places they would like to read in, or read about as well as were they would not read and what subject would they not read about.

I realy like it. It is very funny and interesting. The pictures are funny and pretty.

The star of this book is The Cat in the Hat. Here he is encouraging a young cat to read. Although he does state he can read with his eyes shut, a talent I haven’t mastered, he discourages his pupil, and the reader, from doing so. They will miss too much. All in all this was a fun book. If you have a little one you are trying to instal the habit of reading in this book is a good place to start.

This is a fabulous and humorous book. There are many silly parts in the story and it's interesting and Dr. Seuss intertwines colors with objects and this is teaching children color association that can be used as a simple math lesson for young children in sorting colors with objects... This story has an educational lesson that teaches kids they have to open their eyes to learn or you'll miss the important things. In addition, the illustrations are great and fun! The rhyming and twisty wording make reading "I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!" Children can also see all the fun positions and places they can read with their eyes OPEN :)

I absolutely loved this book! I thought it was really fun to see the Cat In The Hat read with his eyes shut. I remember that when I was in elementary school I read with my eyes shut too when words were hard for me to read. For example, every time i came to the word Mississippi, I would read it with my eyes shut just like the cat did because it was hard for me to pronounce. Just like in the book, the cat had his little helper i also had a helper in elementary school. I remember having a older student in either the 4th or 5th grade that once a week would come to my class for about a half hour and work with me on reading. that really helped me learn to read better and taught me to love reading too.

I could use this book as a teacher to teach my students that lots of people struggle with reading. I can explain that the cat reading with his eyes closed was him having a hard time reading. Then once he was able to gain confidence in his reading, and his buddy told him to read with at least one eye open always, he was able to read so much better in the end. This book can be a way for me to help my students see that its okay to struggle at first. Just keep working hard at it and getting back up when you fall, and after a while, you too will get the hang of reading and be able to read good and with confidence too, just like the cat did!

I can read with my eyes shut doesn’t really have a story line or plot at all. It’s written as a moral code. The moral of the story is that it’s important to read. The book lists a few goofy ways to make reading seem less boring. Dr. Seuss’s goal was to make reading vibrant and colorful, I believe he achieved that goal. The book helps depict all of the useful things that reading can help you gain.

The book is a typical Dr. Seuss style. The book is extremely colorful and bright. The book is humorous and informative at the same time. The pictures are goofy but straight to the point. The book makes it very easy for a younger audience to get the picture. Dr. Seuss’s choice of words and rhyme scheme make its own way of pulling children in to read more.

Dr. Seuss gives a great message about the benefits of reading. Reading is fun and it brings joy to my life at least and this is what I always tell my non-reader friends.

Designed for kids, this is a cute little read that actually introduces quite a few complex words for young readers.

There are so many different ways to read. Can you read with your eyes shut? You might be surprised to find that you can and do.

I don't remember this book from my childhood, so reading it now was something of an experience. At first I thought, Reading with your eyes shut? Ridiculous! Impossible! Of course, Dr. Seuss was someone who could reveal what seemed random and wrong as precise and probable.

I am only familiar with the Cat in the Hat from his self-titled book, so another with him was a welcome find. I must ask, who is this cute kitten in the hat? Adorable! Thing 1 and Thing 2 can step aside. Every child should want to identify with the Kitten in the Hat.

'I Can Read with My Eyes Shut!' is a book about reading with your imagination and not shutting yourself out to new material or allowing for a further insight into the text. This book explores the wonder of reading and all the opportunities it can bring to an individual if they are open to them.

It isn't just the books we read. It is how we perceive what we read. Yes indeed!
