This book’s title is really silly. I cannot read with my eyes shut. Mom told me that there are special books for people who cannot see. Those books have bumps which can be felt or read by fingers. I am thankful that I can see the words and pictures in the book. I like the rhyming words in the book like sad, glad and mad. I have read the book many times.

I Can Read With My Eyes Shut! is a playful story about reading by the classic children's author Dr. Seuss. Dr. Seuss brings back our favorite character the Cat in the Hat, and we tag along on his journey to introduce Young Cat into the world of Reading. Cat teaches Young Cat by opening your eyes to read provides many ways to explore and we can learn a whole lot more. Cat tells young cat he can "read about tree..,and bees..and knees. And knees on trees!" Through Seuss' creative rhymes and tongue twisters Young Cat learns that best way to read is by keeping your eyes wide open.

Dr Seuss uses very creative tongue twisters and rhymes to tell this story creating a fun, easy to follow, semi fast paced read suitable for children just beginning to read. The illustrations are just a crazy fun paced as the words written on the page. They are bright colored, semi distorted, cartoon drawings that match the words on the page, allowing the readers to connect an image to what Cat is telling Young Cat about. When there is lots to explain the pictures are multiplied, but when Cat doesn't have much to say there is only one drawing on the page. The pictures connect with the words almost to a perfect tee, making this book a perfect match to anyone who is in the beginning stages of reading.

"I Can Read With my Eyes Shut" is a very silly book that is written and illustrated in a way that is recognizable by anyone to be by Dr.Seuss. The book doesn't tell much of a story, but it does teach a valuable lesson that may not be very clear to young kids, but it is as an adult. The book is about Cat in the hat showing the little cat all the ways that he can "read", but in the end, it is better to read with your eyes open because there is so much to read, and so much to learn. The plot of the story is kind of nonexistent, and there isn't really a climax or anything, but it still is a fun book to read.

The illustrations, not only this book, but in any Dr.Seuss book, are very colorful and visually pleasing. Some of the text actually corresponds with the illustrations even though the text is completely silly and random (ex: knees on trees and bees on threes), which makes looking at the pictures very fun. These cute illustrations definitely add to the overall effect of the story. The impractical scenarios that Dr.Seuss presents are funny and silly, but don't add much to the story. For younger kids though, that isn't a bad thing.

Reading this book as an adult, it has a completely different meaning than reading it as a kid. I believe that Dr.Seuss is using reading as a metaphor for seeing the world. Of course you can go through life with your eyes closed, not knowing too much about the world and what it has to offer, but going through life eager to learn and willing to take in as much as possible definitely maximizes the experience that we call life. In the end, I can say that I definitely enjoyed this book a lot, but I would have enjoyed it more if there was more of a plot and a story line.
