This book is well written and beautifully illustrated. It caught my eye as a friend told me recently I share a birthday with Dr. Seuss. I recommend it for anyone celebrating a birthday of any age. This is a timeless work.

Just gave this to a friend for his birthday - big smile and lots of laughs! Can't think of anyone else I would rather spend a birthday with then the good doctor! After awhile another birthday just kind of sneaks up on you - but a book like this can help to put everything in perspective.

Meh! This is mostly just rampant silliness, and stretching for words that rhyme, though the following words should serve as a motto for the birthday boy or girl man or woman:

"Today," laughs the Bird, "eat whatever you want.
Today no one tells you you cawnt or you shawnt."

Featured in grandma reads session.

Ah, that Dr. Seuss - no one says it quite like he does. . .

Now this Birthday Pal-alace, as soon you will see,
Has exactly nine thousand, four hundred and three
Rooms to play games in! Twelve halls for brass bands!
Not counting the fifty-three hamburger stands.
And besides all of that, there are sixty-five rooms
Just for keeping the Sweeping-Up-Afterwards-Brooms.
Because, after your party, as well you may guess,
It will take twenty days just to sweep up the mess.

We've all thrown parties like that, right?

It was fun to share this book with our crew on one of our group's very own birthday. We sang and celebrated how wonderful it was to have him among us, when just a few years previous we had no idea of what we were missing. . . .

5 stars. ?It's Seuss. How could it be otherwise? All the stars are on Sneetches. For now.

Give or take a few hours, exactly 60 years and two days ago I was read my first Dr, Seuss book, Happy Birthday to You! My mother read it to me as a bed time story the night before my birthday. I want to say that waking early that day I may re-read it to myself, or maybe the pictures tell the story so well, it only felt like reading. The problem was that I more than a little expected to be greeted by the Great Birthday Bird of Katroo. The rest of the day I was aware of a serious lacking of unlimited hot dogs on a continuous spool. Since then I have made up for it with the occasional splurge at sumptuous brunches, or what the Birthday people of Katroo called a Smorgasbord. To be fair I never developed much skill at eating with my feet.

A half dozen decades later this book remains very much first in my memory of all Dr Seuss. It exceeds with wonderful fluid drawings, whimsy, and fun forced rhymes (Best and Dressed, in fact you can always add an ‘est’ anytime you need a rhyming word). The Happy Birthday book is my favorite, the one I most remember and one I just treated myself by re reading.

Ryan, where ever you are, if you wonder who got your copy: I am I. And I hope you have at least 60 more happy birthdays.

4 stars & 4/10 hearts. This was a cute little story about the importance of life—how nice it is to be alive and to be YOU. Probably would be a fun read on a birthday!

A Favourite Quote: If you’d never be born, you wouldn’t be you….
Why, you might be a WASN’T!
A Wasn’t has no fun at all. No, he doesn’t.
A Wasn’t just isn’t. He just isn’t present.
But you…. You ARE YOU! And, now isn’t that pleasant!

A Favourite Humorous Quote: He never has birthdays, and that isn’t pleasant.
You have to be born, or you don’t get a present.

Content: one image shows the little boy naked diving into a pool; in another, he’s seen from the back as he dries himself off.

I am a person that when it comes to birthdays I love the whole spectacle of feeling like a King for a day. I love receiving presents regardless of how small or big it is, the Facebook messages, receiving texts and calls all day. Before I forget I love eating cake at the end of the day. For me it makes me feel important and alive to have reach another year to celebrate my birthday. I have a very positive outlook when it comes to birthdays but I realize not many do.

I've learned over the years that there are some individuals who hide under a rock or try to avoid others from realizing it is their birthday. Some people do not like getting old or if you have those morbid thoughts some people believe that your birthday is a reminder that you are one more year closer to your death. I do not know why people think like that since your birthday is a reminder of who you are and all the wonderful things you've done whether big or small.

This book should be classified as the book to help bring out your self-esteem and make you feel special. Sadly there are countless children and people who had horrible upbringing and whether subconsciously or not they don't feel loved or special. They grew up with those stirring feelings and sometimes don't have that inner anchor to guide them and tell them they should follow your dreams. Everyone is unique and you should be proud of it.

In this story we find out that in the land of Katroo, there is a birthday bird who remembers everyones name and birthday. On the day of your birthday, the bird arrives and does spectacular things to commemorate the day. You get to do whatever you want while explore epic adventures full of laughter and fun. During the course of the story, the bird keeps repeating catch rephrases that if you really think about it, they are motivational phrases that can be applied in everyones life. My favorite of those quotes is Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.. I have always heard that Dr. Seuss quote but never knew from what book until now.

I highly recommend reading this book regardless whether it is your birthday or not. This book has no age limit and I would highly recommend reading it to children more than once. If you want to feel really empower I suggest reading the book out loud you would be surprise how impactful and how you feel by the end of the book. The illustrations and the color are beautiful and mind blowing. Dr. Seuss is a creative genius and a perfectionist and this has become of my top favorites of Dr. Seuss books.

I'm biased- My dad has read this to me every birthday since I came home from the hospital. It's tradition now. Whether it be in person- on phone- or a message recording when he was on base. My father has terminal cancer now with a five year window...I get sad each time he reads it to me now but won't miss it because I know how much it means to him.

Love this book! It's amazing how many pages Dr. Seuss was able to get out of one book about a birthday. Very creative, funny, with lots of rhyming of course! I read it over and over again to our daughter.
