Gorgeously illustrated and drawn and a celebration of being who you are! Can you get much better than that? As I say- you can’t go wrong with Dr. Suess! Honestly, this might be his most underrated book! It should get all the love it deserves- definitely in my top 5 Dr. Suess books! 5/5 stars!

Silly book about what happens on your birthday in the land of Katroo. I liked the emphasis on it being a great day because it's a celebration of the birthday child, with the idea that every person's uniqueness is a great thing. I also get swept away in the magical world of winding staircases, silly animals and rhyme. The book is so long, though, that I don't want to read it to my kids before bedtime.

Dr. Seuss' books are always adorable and full of whimsical joy, and this miniature pop-up book celebrating birthdays is no exception. It's a short 6 tableaus long, but in typical Seussical fashion it's jam-packed with bright colours, adventure, and ridiculous rhymes that are sure to please any birthday recipient. Of course, Seuss doesn't choose to rehash typical birthday greetings, and instead send readers to Katroo. There they meet the birthday bird, an almost-phoenix like bird of red and gold, perflectly fitting the theme of new adventures for a new years who guides them through the adventures for their special day. We're treated to feasts, gifts, and even more feasts before the day closes out with a reminder that like birthdays we are all specially unique and should be celebrated for being US! The only real issue with this book is with some of the pop-up mechanics. They work well enough, but are a bit delicate and are clearly prone to breakage with too much use. A higher quality paper or slightly adjusted measurements would likely solve this problem, as the mechanics themselves are pretty simple and straightforward.

This book was such an adorable book to read when celebrating birthdays. Check out the Birthday Bird and see what he’ll do to make sure that your birthday is special to you! Picking you up in the morning, taking you on an adventure, and dropping you off at night to make sure your birthday feels nothing but special. I absolutely loved this book and love the idea of keeping it within my class library. You could use a book like this in the younger grades to celebrate your students’ birthdays. I was thinking you could set aside some time towards the end of the day to read this book to students when there’s a birthday in the class. Announce the birthday boy/girl, pass out some goodies for the kiddos to enjoy, read this book aloud, and allow for the students to have a nice and relaxing time of enjoying their classmates birthday with them while listening to a cute birthday book and enjoying some birthday treats. While it may not be an educational use of the book within the classroom, it is definitely a use that may leave the birthday boy/girl feeling special on their special day.

I usually love Dr. Seuss, but this book was a little boring for me. My kids on the other hand, had a great time flipping open all of the flaps to see what was behind each. So, it does have some entertainment value for small kids... and it is short.

I figured I needed a little something to read for the special day, so what better person to turn to than the classic Dr. Seuss writing the happy birthday to you book in 1959.

Entertaining just for the fun of it.
