Ein großartiges Kapitel aus dem Roman „Die Brüder Karamasow“ von Dostojewski. Dabei übertrifft sich der russische Autor selbst und wird seinen Ansprüchen gerecht. In dieser Erzählung geht er auf das Paradoxon des Christentums ein, nämlich die Freiheit eines einzelnen Menschen. Darüber hinaus nimmt Iwan mit seiner Erzählung in diesem Kapitel eine kritische Postion gegenüber dem katholischen Glauben und seinem Papsttum ein.

The shining light of The Brothers Karamazov.

I read this during a full read-through of the entire book, but was happy to see it as a short story on Goodreads.

It's undoubtedly the standout chapter of The Brothers Karamazov, one that makes you think deeply and admire the perspectives that Dostoevsky could conjure, perspectives opposite that of his own.

The critique was powerful and, channeled through Ivan Karamazov — the representation of the intellectual, sceptical, philosophical side of human nature — displayed a memorable account of what freedom within humanity truly represents.

It's genius, timeless work from Dostoevsky, that to this day challenges what freedom, power and control really mean.

You know how practices of all religions degrade with time from the way they were originally supposed to be to how powerful pretenders want it to be. Perhaps this decline is natural to mankind - just look at how Abrahamic religions have fallen to pretenders after each prophet - Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Mohammad; or look at similar degradation of Hinduism and Buddhism in east.

'The Grand Inquisitor', which is but a section of Fyodor Dosteyvesky's novel 'Brothers Karamzov', documents this degradation in a incredible manner - by making the inquisitor tell Jesus that his colleagues are doomed to fall to Satan's temptations. A great feast of author's writing powers and every bit hair raising.

Dieses Kapitel aus Dostojewskis Roman ,,Die Brüder Karamasow" hat es durchaus verdient, unabhängig von diesem gelesen zu werden. Der Autor wirft einige philosophische und theologische Fragen auf. Im Zentrum steht die Frage der Freiheit des Individuums. Die Phantasie des fiktiven Erzählers Iwans lässt einen auch Institutionen weltlicher Macht - in diesem Fall die katholische Kirche - in Frage stellen. Diese kritische Beleuchtung lässt sich auch leicht auf andere Institionen der Macht, wie den später in Russland aufkommenden Kommunismus, übertragen und warnt davor, was geschehen kann, wenn der Zweck die Mittel heiligt.

قسمتی از رمان شگفت انگیز برادران کارامازوف است که برای من به بزرگترین هشدار و ترس داستایفسکی می پردازد..وی که به ارامش و حقیقت مسیحیت روسی معتقد است هشداری بزرگ را در قالب مفتش اعظم‌ جای داده..زنهار از روز و زمانی‌که مسیح بازگردد اما در جامعه ای که سردمدارانش او را پس زنند..در واقع جامعه ای ست که مسیحیت حقیقی انچنان فراموش شده که بازگشت بزرگ نیز قادر به نجاتش نیست..این در واقع جلوه چیزی ست که داستایفسکی در زمان حیات خود میدیده..نه در اینکویزیشن اسپانیا و حتی نه در کشیک های کاتولیک روم و حوزه نفوذ شان،بلکه در خود روسیه..داستایفسکی نگران از غرب زدگی و فراموشی مسیحیت به شکل ارتدکس شرقی روسیه در زندگی مردم است..و آنرا به بهترین شکل در مفتش اعظم نمایش میدهد..جامعه ای که مسیح را به یاد دارد اما حاکمان و روشنفکرانش دیگر به او نیازی ندارند.
در سطح دیگری نیز بایست به مفتش اعظم‌ پرداخت..در مسئله انتخاب..انسان حقیقی داستایفسکی بیش از هر چیز یک انتخاب کننده است..و انتخاب وی تنها از منفعت و باطنش نیست..بلکه از انچه ست که داستایفسکی آن را به مثابه روح می داند..روحی که برای انتخاب های اصلح به مسیح و مسیحیت حقیقی از نگاه داستایفسکی نیاز مبرم دارد..تا‌ که در نهایت انسان به آرامش رسد.

We also read ancillary sections from Book V and Book VI and I liked those sections but the grand inquisitor is wack and Ivan is crazy

One of my favorite chapters from the brothers Karamazov and definitely worth multiple reads in its own right.
