The Shattering

Soren's sister, Eglantine, is falling under the spell of a strange nightly dream. Then, just as Soren notices her trancelike state, Eglantine disappears, and the dreams become a deadly waking nightmare that puts the Great Tree of Ga'Hoole in terrible danger. Soren must lead the Chaw of Chaws to rescue his sister. Thus begins the next battle between the owls of Ga'Hoole and the evil Pure Ones, deep in the treacherous territory known as The Beaks, where a raging forest fire will prove the greatest danger to the rescuers-and their best hope for victory.

Not my favourite book in the series. Seems to be a little lacking compared to the rest of the series, but still has an alluring quality to it.

The fifth book in the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series, The Shattering, is probably the best I have read in this series so far. However, this series consists of about fifteen books and I have yet to read every single one. This book takes the concept of dreaming and expands it into something very interesting and awesome. Dreams become reality and happen continuously over time, this is an ability known as Starsight. There is something else that happens with dreaming, too. Something horrible. This is called Shattering or being Shattered. Being Shattered basically makes you a zombie in which you feel no emotions and you are basically under the control of someone else. Because of Shattering, two owls go missing from the Great Ga'Hoole Tree which causes another great battle between the Pure Ones and the Chaw of Chaws, or the Guardians. This book is very entertaining to read and once you pick it up you will not want to put it down because every time you finish a page you need to keep reading to find out what is going to happen next.

Some of my questions were answered so it gets a higher rating. Also less cannibalism and racism now. Best one so far lol.

This book brings a fairly satisfying sense of progress and reflection after everything that’s happened so far. I loved seeing Soren take on new responsibilities and it feels like his character has really grown so much! The emotional weight of the story really stands out in this one, and the ending was especially endearing! :) With the Northern Kingdoms on the horizon, I can’t wait to see what new adventures and discoveries await in the next book!

I liked having Eglantine and Primrose as partial POVs. It mixed things up a bit.
