Kathryn Lasky is the American author of many critically acclaimed books, including several Dear America books, several Royal Diaries books, 1984 Newbery Honor winning Sugaring Time, The Night Journey, and the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series.

She was born June 24, 1944, and grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, and is married to Christopher Knight, with whom she lives in Massachusetts.

Book 15, The War of the Ember, is currently the last book in the Ga'Hoole series. The Rise of a Legend is the 16th book but is a prequel to the series. Lasky has also written Guide Book To The Great Tree and Lost Tales Of Ga'Hoole which are companion books.

Hoole wanted to form an order of owls that would be good. But the evil hagfiends rallied and went after them. So Hoole rose an army of owls to rid the world of the hagfiends evil magic. Then in an epic battle Hoole clashes between the hagfinds in an epic war for the Ember of Hoole. To Be king is about friendship, trust, and perseverance.

Feels phoned in from beginning to end. The characters are flatter than ever, almost nothing of interest happens, and the narrative is often nonsensical in its lack of description and consistency. There's a reason I can't remember much of anything from when I read this as a kid.
Easily the low point of the series so far.
