This audio book was short and sweet at just over an hour. It was narrated by Whoopi, Lithgow and Lewis with lots of quotes, songs and silliness. Anyone who loves The Muppets, Fraggles, Skeksis, Mystics, or Labyrinth Goblins will be pleased as pie with this book. Jim Henson was amazing. I got a little misty-eyed at a few points.

Jim Henson was by far the most influential artist of my childhood; there is so much to say about him but there simply aren't words to describe just how much of a creative genius he truly was. He lived for his audience and his work, creating gentle and endearing characters that influenced children while making their parents chuckle. By bringing people together, regardless of age, Henson made education and entertainment a true family activity for the first time in television history.
Henson, even after his death, continues to influence thousands around the world with his message of caring for one another and looking at the world with an open mind; He was quite possibly one of the greatest philosophers of our time by combining life's simple truths with hilarious entertainment. By captivating viewers with thoughts of optimism and love for others regardless of differences, his work manifested itself as nothing short of a masterpiece.
I will always look up to Henson as a writer, an artist, and a man in general and this book so beautifully solidifies that belief. It's Not Easy Being Green is a fitting tribute to Henson and his work, as well as being an inspiring and thoughtful read.

If there could be more than 5 stars to rate this book, I would rate it even higher.
This little "green" book is really a big book. It was put edited by his daughter, Cheryl Henson, who is the second eldest of Henson's 5 children. She is a director of the Jim Henson Company, and the president of the Jim Henson Foundation.
There are many significant quotes from Jim Henson himself; "I believe that life is basically a process of growth-that we go through many lives, choosing those situations and problems that we will learn through." There are also many quotes from other contributors that knew him, created with him, and loved him. Those people are all listed at the end of the book, along with a short biography of each of them and how they fit into Jim's life.
You really begin to know the man by he, himself, and others say. Chapters include, "Listen to Your Heart", "Dynamite Determination", "Together We'll Nab It", "It Starts When We're Kids", and "A Part of Everything and Everyone". That is really what the content of this book is all about, and I'd urge anyone that has been, or is, a fan of his work, to read this book to find out more about Jim Henson, the Muppets, and his friends.

It was neat to read some of the back story behind Jim Henson's creations. I appreciated how much of a visionary he was and also his approach to work and leading others.

"Don't care what they say, 'cause I know where to find my way. It won't be the way they said to go. But I'm not like they say, I just want to find my way, I'm going the way I've got to go. So show me a way to go and I'll go free, I hope you'll see That I'm going the way I've got to go." -56

"If our 'message' is anything, it's a positive approach to life. That life is basically good. People are basically good." -149

"At some point in my life I decided, rightly or wrongly, that there are many situations in this life that I can't do much about: acts of terrorism, feelings of nationalistic prejudice, cold war, etc. So what I should do is concentrate on the situations that my energy can affect." -159

"Yes, it's one of the basic truths of the physical universe, Sprocket. Things don't disappear. They just change, and change, and change again." -167

"Life's like a movie, write your own ending. Keep believing, keep pretending. We've done just what we set out to do. Thanks to the lovers, the dreamers, and you." -171

It's nice to hear anecdotes read aloud and the musical interludes are cute. But it's pretty light on substance. Or rather if you are familiar with the subject and his colleagues then there really is nothing new. It's just whet my appetite for the biography about Hensen that just came out.

Words of wisdom from the Muppets...what's not to love?! And I don't mean by just Kermit, but the Fraggles, Emmett Otter, and Jim Henson himself.. A great coffee table and reference book for the masses.

It’s not easy being green and sometimes it’s easier to talk about it than bottling it up.

I’m a sucker for anything Muppets or Jim Henson. When I saw this book, I knew I had to read it. I’m glad I did. Not only is this full of the wit and wisdom of Jim Henson, it contains his drawings in the margins and has tidbits from the people who worked with him. It’s a great book for creative people or those looking for a pick-me-up. There are pieces of songs from the Muppet shows and movies as well as things Henson said.

I like that this book was uplifting. Really. I needed something to make life sort of make sense and this one did. The world can be a scary place, but if we whittle it down to nuggets we can handle and have a positive outlook, it’s not so hard. I liked that.

If you’re looking for a book of wit and whimsy that will bring a smile to the face, then this might be the book you’re looking for.

This was a great, inspirational little book. I recommend this to anyone who is a Jim Henson fan.

I meant to keep the book long enough to share a few of my favorite quotes but it had to make its way back to the library yesterday. However, I would seriously consider purchasing it because it was just that good. It's a little bit of Jim whispering in your ear everyday. It is what made him wonderful and what he wanted to share with the world to make it wonderful as well. It's refreshing to see someone be so thoughtful and profound yet keep his likability and remain down to earth. He was truly loved by ALL around him. Usually someone so clearly absorbed in their work gets resented or maybe people just refer to them in insincere flattery but this book makes it clear that Jim was just not that way.

I always get emotional when it comes to the Muppets. I'm not sure why. They're supposed to be lighthearted, funny and somewhat educational. I guess it's because even when you're not quite paying attention to it, the Muppets did exactly what Jim wanted them to do for us. Now that I'm older I realize how much they were a part of my life and how they did teach me about life. That's exactly what they were purposed to do. While reading this book I got to see that was no accident at all. It was subtle, which is the best kind of lesson in my opinion because you didn't even know you "learned", it just became part of you.

Anyway, READ THIS! And wish you could thank Jim Henson personally for making your day just a little brighter. :)

Featuring the voices of John Lithgow, Whoopi Goldberg, and Jerry Nelson (from the Muppets), with a little snippet of Jim Henson's voice, too. All people I love dearly.

But the story itself kind of went in one ear and out the other. There were some lovely bits that just didn't stick, which was frustrating. Maybe I need to read the hardback and see if I appreciate it more.

A very interesting book of quotes from Jim Henson and the Muppets. Made me really want to go and watch the Muppet show now as an adult.
