It was good enough. Janet's books are usually a fun quick read for me when I'm in between long, more difficult books. I love the Stephanie Plum series, however this book was not as good as those are.
Motor Mouth was still a fun read, however the plot line was kind of cheesey. Many, many times I kept thinking "Why would someone do that?!? That's so unrealistic!", I would have to remind myself that it's just supposed to be a fun read and not think too much about it.
I will admit, Janet's characters are always colorful, entertaining, and hilarious.
Overall, it was entertaining, but I don't know if I'll read anymore from this series.

Alex Barnaby and Sam Hooker are off on another adventure bumbling through life together. When Gobbles, a fellow NASCAR spotter like Alex, gets trapped in a car hauler Alex comes to his rescue getting herself caught up in a mix of trouble. Checking a race car for possible "cheating" technology has Alex finding a tiny computer chip. Apparently other people want this chip....badly...they're willing to kill to get it. Alex and Hooker have to find out what the chip does but it isn't easy when they're running from the law who think Hooker is responsible for crimes he didn't commit. Keeping one step ahead of the law and trying to stay alive while keeping the chip out of evil hands makes for an entertaining book. Alex and Hooker aren't detectives, they don't know how to solve crimes, but somehow they manage to eek there way through the mess together....with a little help from friends like Rosa and Felicia....two crazy, gun wielding women.

Audiobook- “Dumb and Dummer”. Really stupid and bad. Written at a third grade level. DNF. I was at the gym and was ready to begin a new book. I accidentally pushed a different book that kept coming up written in French (which I don’t read) so I was in a hurry and started this story. Typical Janet Evanovich. I should have expected this. I just couldn’t finished it. The narration was poor. Her southern accent terrible. I think she made the characters sound even dumber than they were written. This story is an insult to NASCAR drivers and their staff. There are so many better books out there.

This was again the second book of a series where I didn't have the first one. It read fine as a stand alone, but I didn't really enjoy it. All the things that happened felt unrealistic and just, why did they make the decisions they make. Don't be so stupid you know? Some parts were okay but overall it wasn't anything to write home about. Also the most annoying thing about this story was Hooker, pushy guys are horrible, no is no even if you want her.

Fast paced, incredulous tale, but there is something very fun about the Adventures of Barnaby & Hooker. I loved hearing from some characters in book one, plus I love when a story wraps up nicely at the end.

Rev your engines

A comedy of errors including kidnapping, dog knapping, murder and theft all centered around NASCAR. Some parts are corny but make you laugh and all the time I was thinking those things could happen to me if I was caught in that situation!

I ordered 2 books through interlibrary loan & they both came today! EEK! I have to read them in TWO weeks!!! Now, the question is, which do I read first? Running with Scissors or Look Me in the Eye? Then as if that doesn't complicate matters enough, I also have Motor Mouth & Shape Shifters to read, ACCKK

A lightweight and fun read with the typical Janet Evanovich humor. The story is about a female named Barney, an electrical engineer whose occupation is observing and repairing cars for a NASCAR team. It also includes her relationship with Hooker, the celebrated driver for this team. While monitoring a race that Hooker finished 2nd place, Barney thinks the winning car had an illegal computer piece installed in the car that was controlled remotely by a team observer. The story follows the hair raising and funny adventures taken by team Barney and Hooker to find the computer part and remote control.

Not as good as the first book about Barney & Hooker. For me, it jumped the shark. Not a big fan of this particular series even though I've loved everything else I've ever read written by Janet Evanovich.

I have never really been able to get into the other Evanovich series - Stephanie Plum all the way - so I thought that the graphic novels could break me into the Alex Barnaby stream since the first book didn't quite accomplish that. But unfortunately, this is one where you should read the series so that you understand the characters. I did like the approach and the call outs for each character were great, but ....

This was my first book read by this author. She has sold boatloads of books and people seemed to like them, so I figured I would check it out. I have recently read a few other "caper" books...Carl Hiaasen stuff, among others. This seemed to be of the same ilk.

Honestly, I don't know what to make of it. There were certainly a bunch of over the top caricatures of people, here. Lots of different shenanigans. But ultimately, I am not sure what the point of it all was. Lots of the stuff in here was kind of grim. In some ways, I am reminded of "Salty," by Mark Haskell Smith. There are lots of words. Lots of stuff happens and there are certainly a few killings to spice up the proceedings from time to time.

But what is the point of the story? It has a few bits of humor mixed in. But most of the characters are not truly very likable, at all. And NONE of the people involved act in a way that resembles what anyone of sound mind would do, say or think, if facing circumstances like this.

For example, one of the main characters is kidnapped and 4 of the women characters are told to surrender an item of value in exchange for this guy's life. If it is not done in an hour or less, the killers (and kidnappers) will start cutting off fingers. So the women decide to: 1) run around and encourage a St. Bernard to poop; 2) scrounge around for firearms so they can attack the killer's compound Rambo style and save the day; 3) contact the police and get SWAT to help. If you guessed 1 and 2, you read the book. And they DON'T wind up dead.

The number of times in this book that the main characters plan to chase, catch or attack hitmen and other major baddies is truly staggering. And ultimately, the good guys wind up with illegal technology that will allow them to cheat in car racing. Uhhh....yea team???

I wish this were more fun. I could use a FUN read. This was just a slog. Too much running around without any real payoff. As detectives, the characters in this book are okay race car people.

This was much ado about very little.

Baltimore mechanic turned amateur sleuth Alexandra "Barney" Barnaby), the sexy bleached blonde and her hunky NASCAR driver and sometime boyfriend, Sam Hooker, stumble into a high-octane misadventure that implicates them in numerous felonies, including multiple murder, breaking and entering, kidnapping, and, of course, grand theft auto. Now working as Hooker's race-day spotter -- and trying to come to grips with the handsome driver's recent infidelity with a salesclerk -- Barnaby guides her former boyfriend to a second-place finish in the last race of the season. But when they come to the aid of a friend who got him-self locked inside a competitor's hauler during the race, they accidentally uncover an illegal high-tech traction control device -- and the fresh corpse of the team's owner. After hijacking the hauler, Barnaby, Hooker, and his 150-pound Saint Bernard become fugitives from justice -- and the real race begins.

Classic Evanovich, I do love style and crazy characters. Rosa and Felicia in both Metro Girl and Motor Mouth are really just the icing on the cake. It's a fun story, recommended reading for all Evanovich fans. I liked book 2 wayyyy more than book 1. ;)
