1st Evanovich book i didn't finish. felt phoned-in. i HATED the driver and his attitude toward Barnaby. action was predictable and contrived. i won't be reading any more of this series. i hope this isn't an indicator of how future books in any of the other Evanovich worlds will be.

In the second book of the series, Alex (Barney) Barnaby and her off/on love NASCAR driver Sam Hooker are once again involved in a murder. During a race, Barney believes that one of the drivers is using illegal technology and her suspicions are seconded by Gobbles, an employee of the winning team. Barney and Hooker are contacted by a frightened Gobbles telling them he is hiding in a hauler, a huge tractor trailer that carries 2 race cars and tons of automotive gear. Barney and Hooker 'borrow' the hauler releasing Gobbles but finding something they did not expect: the body of another employee shot in the forehead and wrapped in plastic film. Suddenly they are suspected of murder and have become the targets of a sinister group of people who know that Barney has taken their computer chip with the cheating technology. It is a race to see who will apprehend the couple first: the good guys or the bad guys.

This series is not bad but it certainly has not held my interest the way Stephanie Plum has done. It's a fun ride with lots of humor, sarcasm, sexual innuendo and a great big lovable Saint Bernard named Beans.

Yes, the whole thing is ludicrous, but I found it enjoyable. Alexis Barnaby is fun to hang out with as is Hooker. I'd definitely go with them on their antics but wouldn't go into the locations they did. I'd be the behind the scenes person or the getaway driver. Many questionable choices made. You have to read these books with a wide margin for craziness & stupidity. I like them though. I can put reality aside & enjoy them for what they are; a fun wacky plot with great & fun people who will introduce you to other interesting people along the way.

Barney and Hooker are back for more high stakes thrills and mystery in the sequel to Metro Girl. Anything that can go wrong, goes worse than either of them can anticipate, but this time with new friends and found family.
