Four stars..if what your looking for is a Texas themed soap opera in print. The damsel in distress is saved by the hot, sexy cowboy in those oh-so tight jeans. The title is definetely the most clever thing about this book, but then once you read the description of the cowboy, you won't care about "clever".

This was a promising start to the series...but I could not get into it for some reason. I mean it had all the makings of a good story that I would really like it enjoy. But I just wasn’t feeling it. I might very well try the next story in the series just to see. It might have just been my mood who knows…

Debbie Sue and her ex-husband Buddy, the town's sheriff, still love each other, even 3 years after the divorce. When one of the local bigwigs is found murdered, Debbie Sue decides to investigate for herself so she can claim the reward money and get herself out of debt... and snag Buddy back along the way.

This is my first book by Ms Cash, and to be honest, I don't know if I'd go back for more.
At first I thought it was because, due to a hectic week, I could only pick up the book in small doses... then I realised that no, it actually WAS quite slow going to begin with. I had read almost a quarter of the book before it hooked me, and even then it seemed a very light hold.

For once, I find it hard to pinpoint exactly what it was about the book that didn't grab me. It wasn't that I didn't like the book, but it seemed like an amateur attempt, somewhat disjointed. There were a few moments if brilliant humour, where I literally laughed out loud, but they were interspersed with some incredibly bad dialogue and the plot felt aimless at times, as if the author herself didn't know where the story was going. I have nothing against writers just writing, and letting the characters and plot reveal themselves, but this felt like I was watching a bad impromptu skit, so that although it had funny moments, the overall effect felt quite 2 dimensional, with characters who, though likable and amusing, seemed as confused as the author.

Maybe I'm being overly harsh... Will have to find out for sure, but it felt like it might have been her early work..? Would be interested to know how her recent work is rated / reviewed.
As for this book, it's not one I would ever read again or recommend, but if I do find out this was a debut, I might be interested in trying one of Ms Cash's latest novels to see how the writing style may have improved... maybe.

Super funny chick-lit mystery with a Texas twang.

Oh how I loved reading this book as a handheld a few years ago. It's even better as an audiobook! Peggity Price is the perfect narrator for this series. I loved revisiting this debut of one of my favorite series. I may have to start collecting them in audio format so I can listen anytime I want.

Someone left this book in my Little Free Library. It was Friday night, and I needed something light to read. The title hooked me; how could it not? The book delivered on its promise of a breezy read and made me smile. That's worth something. I'm putting it back out in the library for another reader in the neighborhood to discover.

More like 3.75 stars, but I'll always round up for the literary version of Southern comfort food. Recognizable Quirky Texas characters, lots of humor, and a fun, small town setting. A light, entertaining palate cleanser between heavier books. I'll probably pick up the next one. Irrelevant Side Note: The whole time I'm reading this, I'm picturing a movie/tv version with 70's/80's casting choices. I'm seeing Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton (circa "9 to 5") as Edwina and C.J. I'm seeing Lee Horsley as Sheriff Buddy. Jackie Earle Haley as Harley. Betty White as Maudeen, for sure! And ok, kill me, but Jason Statham as Vic. I know he's not from that time period, but I'd give damn near anything to watch him cooking a gourmet meal, in a frilly apron, for Edwina. Not sure who I'd cast as Debbie Sue...

But when the victims husband puts up a $50,000 reward for finding the killer Debbie Sue decided she is going to find the killer and collect the reward. Along with her friend Edwina (Ed) she starts snooping. She recorded all the crime shows that week and decideds how hard can it be. But Buddy keeps showing up ruining her plans, old boyfriend and champion Bull rider Quint wants her back in his life, There #1 suspect Eugene has an alter-ego Janine and a lot of other people just plan did not like the victim. Add in a sick horse, a country music writing mom, and a gourmet cook/truck driver you have all the elements of a fun time.

I did enjoy reading this book. It was fast and quick and didnot require me to use my brain once. But did make me laugh

The first in the series of the Domestic Equalizers. The equalizers: Beauticians Debbie Sue Overstreet and Edwina Perkins-Martin decide they should look into a murder and the wild ride begins. Big drawls, big hair and big hearts get these middle aged women in a lot of big trouble but that's not stopping them....
Dixie Cash's books always make laugh out loud. What more could anyone ask?

Since You're Leaving Anyway, Take Out the Trash (Domestic Equalizers #1)
by Dixie Cash, read by Peggity Price

Dixie Cash is actually two sisters that write together. There's some down-home Texas humor and items are mentioned that I'm guessing people outside of Texas wouldn't know what they are (I didn't). It's a solid story, I only skipped a couple of parts.
Sometimes the main female character - Debbie Sue, acted a little too dumb for me.

The reader is both good and awful. Peggity Price handles all the voices really well and the accents. But her timing and cadence will make you want to pull your hair out, or stop listening. Read a line, stop, pause, read another line. This book was recorded back in 2004 and hopefully she's gotten much better since then.

I'm a maybe on recommending this book. I'll probably try another one by Cash although my library doesn't have any others in audio.

Friends and co-workers of the Styling Station, Debbie Sue Overstreet and Edwina Perkins, are used to being the center of information (gossip) in Salt Lick, Texas, and now is no exception with the murder of the richest woman in town. At first the police think it is a suicide, but it proves that it was indeed murder which Debbie Sue had already predicted. Debbie Sue is deep in debt and when the husband of the murdered woman offers a $50,000 reward for the capture of the murderer, she decides to solve the crime to get the reward. Of course this puts her in the sights of the murderer and gets her in danger, but puts her on the trail of the murderer.
