Similar to Janet Evanovich, with a West Texas flavor. This being the first book in the series, it was just okay. I've heard the second and third books are much better. I'll see if that's true.

This was a surprisingly good read. I've read something else by Dixie Cash, but remember not caring for it very much. Once I really started reading this I really got into it and couldn't stop. I enjoyed all of the country aspects, all the country music references. It reminds me of all the books I wished I could have written. Yes it got a little ridiculous at times, but what the hey. It was a nice light read.
The book starts off with the murder of the wealthiest woman in town, Pearl Ann. Debbie Sue owns the one of the only beauty parlors in town and she's the ex-wife of the sheriff of the town. When the husband puts up a reward for the location of his wife's murderer, Debbie Sue decides she must be the one to solve the case.
There are several hilarious scenes with an old flame, Quint (though near the beginning of the book he is referred to as Clint which confused me at first) and a drag queen by the name of Eugene/Janine. However the end seemed to wrap up quite quickly, as though the author had to find a quick ending. Within the course of about twenty pages (maybe an exaggeration) she hooks back up with her ex husband, Buddy, and finds the killer. The killer, who turns out to have accidentally killed Pearl Ann. At the end there is a wrap up epilogue that quickly explains what happened to each character.
So it's a nice light read, but I will probably be trading it in.

Another female with life issues that controls most of her actions. And like many 'cozy' mysteries she is not a detective but tries to solve a murder. And like so many other hair dressers - house maids - single moms - etc - she is way over her head. That said, this was an interesting book since she also has a warped sense of humor and her exploits are all funny, it is set in west Texas where I am stuck now and even in two towns I either live in or visit monthly.

Eh.... It's trying to be Stephanie Plum in cowboy boots, but I prefer Stephanie Plum.

Ok, first of all I think these books deserve an extra star because of the awesome titles! And second, they are fun to read.

This was the first book by this author I have listened to. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I love the Deep South novels because they remind me of Mississippi, so I am more attuned to the characters a
than the plot, but this one was pretty good. Usually books in which you know the perp early on aren't very good, but this one was entertaining. The two detectives from a small town in Texas also are beauticians. They get involved in tracking down the murderer because Debbie Sue is up to her eyebrows in debt and is in danger of losing the beauty shop. This is definitely a cozy type mystery and is more about crazy situations and cross purposes.

Debbie Sue Overstreet owns the beautyshop in Salt Lick, Texas. The shop is the center for news and gossip for the small town. Debbie Sue’s ex-husband Buddy is the sheriff. Debbie Sue is in financial trouble because of the huge cost of converting the gas station she got in the divorce settlement into a beautyshop. The cost of cleaning up soil from the leaking gas tanks was HUGE! .. Buddy helped all he could, selling his ranch, cattle, and life savings. They now have a love/hate relationship. When Peggy Ann Carruthers, unfaithful wife of the richest man in town, is murdered, a huge reward for finding the murderer is offered. Debbie Sue decides to find the murderer and collect the reward to get out of debt.
