Since I was having a hard time immediately getting into Citizen Girl I decided to pick another book to start last night as well. Its almost finished, and I have to say, for a "romantic, suspense" book, its kinda of a cool read.
What a great story! The characters are hugely entertaining, from the hero and heroine, the Maudeen, who can't buy cocaine on her senior citizen fixed income. The story is a mixture of romance and mystery and the final result solves the mystery and has a good ending for our couple. Great read.
Cute start to a mystery series with a lot of humor and a touch of romance set in West Texas. It's reminiscent of the Stephanie Plum series with quirky characters that only work in that setting and humorous off-beat situations. As the story opens, we meet Debbie Sue, still carrying a torch for her ex-husband Sheriff Buddy Overstreet, and her friends Ed (short for Edwina) and CJ (Carol Jean). They are drawn into solving the murder of the wife of a wealthy businessman, in part to save Debbie Sue's beauty salon. There are some fun side characters to provide comic relief. It's cute, mindless fun - and the title! The titles (because there are more in this series) comes from Debbie Sue's mom who's an aspiring country music writer and comes up with titles that are guaranteed hits. It's not intense but it's just right for a little diversion while sipping some iced tea on the back porch on a summer afternoon.
This book was hysterical! Made me laugh out loud so may times. The wife of the richest man in Salt Lick, Texas turns up dead and there are many suspects. A reward is offered for the capture of the murderer. Debbie Sue, the sheriff's ex-wife, is just the one to solve the murder and claim the reward, along side her partner in crime and best friend Edwina. Buddy, the sheriff of Salt Lick, doesn't want Debbie Sue to get involved in the murder investigation. There're still sparks between those two, even though they are divorced and trying to get on with their lives.
A must read book that will have you laughing our loud hysterically.
Fun and funny, definitely reminds me of living in West Texas. enjoyable; not all reading will change the world, but it can put a smile on my face and in my head.
I just finished this book and boy was it good. It encompassed everything that I look for in a book. It had mystery, romance, humor, and drama.
Debbie Sue Overstreet is the stereotypical west Texas girl, born and raised in a small town called Salt Lick. She once was married to what she still finds the sexiest man in texas, and happens to be the Sherriff of this small town. Debbie Sue owns a small hair salon and therefore is the center of the gossip line there.
When a muder happens to someone they know they whole town stops by to see what the latest scoop is. With all this going on Debbie Sue has to figure out what she wants in her life and also who. She has to get rid of the demons from the past as she is dealing with everything else under the sun going on in this small town.
Since You’re Leaving Anyway, Take out the Trash, by Dixie Cash, b, narrated by Peggity Price, produced by Lone Star Books, a division of Recorded Books, and downloaded from audible.com.
This is the debut book in the series, and where we first meet Debbie Sue and Edwina, beauty shop owners, and operators of the Domestic Equalizers private eye business. Edwina Perkins and Debbie Sue Overstreet have opened a beauty shop together but they’re barely making enough to pay the bills. Buddy and Debbie Sue are divorced but clearly still in love with each other. The wife of the owner of the famous Caruthers Ranch, the biggest spread in west Texas, is murdered. The rancher put out a $50,000 reward to find the murderer. Debbie Sue determined to go after the reward so she would have enough money to pay off her debts. Buddy, her ex-husband, and the sheriff, does not want Debbie Sue and Edwina butting into his business. The pranks, high humor and slapstick comedy goes on in this book with everything coming out right in the end and Debbie Sue winning the reward.
This was a fun, light romantic suspense set in small town Texas. Beauty shop owner, Debbie Sue Overstreet, is tired of always being broke, so when the wife of a local wealthy businessman is found dead in her car, Debbie Sue decides to solve the crime herself in order to collect the reward, despite the fact that her ex-husband, who happens to be the town sheriff, has warned her to stay out of the investigation, and let the professionals handle it. Of course this only makes Debbie Sue more determined than ever to track down clues on her own, with the help of her best friend and co-worker, Edwina Perkins, which leads to quite a few ridiculous situations.
This book was definitely laugh-out-loud funny at times. The further I read into the book, the more the characters drew me in. A fun read. :-)
I've had this book on the TBR pile for over 3 years and just got to reading it and now I know why - it's funny yet its story line reminded me of the Stephanie Plum(by Janet Evanovich) series which I liked far better. Admittedly after having read "Heaven, Texas" by Susan E. Phillips, I was more prepared for the Texan environment, I just didn't get into the story and even when there were clearly hilarious one-liners - I just wanted to skip ahead and finish the book (could have been the 3 years playing on my mind...I dunno)...
I'd definitely recommend it to someone who enjoys humor, if only so that I can discuss why I didn't do so...
