I’m pretty sure I saw this staged when I was in elementary school. After all, it is one of those plays that educational theatre troupes love to perform.
The Diary of Anne Frank – the play – does a decent job of summarizing the actual diary. Anne’s story is so heartbreaking that the play could be much worse and still pack an emotional punch, but this Pulitzer Prize winning adaptation is pretty good. I prefer the actual diary, but as far as plays with a heavy educational bent go, The Diary of Anne Frank is above average. Recommended.

Almeno per me...

OkThe problem I have had with religion is nothing compared to Anne's problems with the Nazis but the issue I take with l secularism or atheism upon reading this book (and fundies that say Jews that died amid the holacaust are in hell forever) and with other books like "left to tell: finding God amidst the Rwandan holacaust" is that Anne's life was cut short. No afterlife life is simply unfair. Are we succumbing to Hitler's worldview? Hitler does appeal to God in meim Kampf. It seems as if the world is governed by certain principles. It's a "jagged little pill" to swallow that Anne didn't get to live a full life here or in the next. I dont ask to live forever but given this idea it's hard. Furthermore how do you reconcile the "Christians" helping the "annex" and Hitler's first speech as President that Christianity is a bedrock of German society. Two Christians saying alternative things.

Anne approaches death with almost TOO MUCH bravery as she is only a girl. I do not like how the elders mildly detered the relationship between Peter and Anne. She may die and is therefore old enough to experience a romantic relationship before death. She is entitled to that experience if she can experience the Third Reich as she is 15 and Peter 17.

At the very least one cannot be a decent empathetic human being IF God exists (big if) and come to the conclusion that Anne's belief in God is fictitious and Jews and whoever else don't worship the same higher being. The pope was probably a puppet to Hitler siding with the lesser of two evils (Nazism to Communism); the two are quite similar but Hitler was a fascist not democrat socialist. Can you be a socialist and a democrat? Maybe but it seems that capitalism and democracy go hand in hand; read capitalism and freedom Milton Friedman. The rich are likewise to blame for their voting Hitler which demographically they did are two necessary addition.

Anne's religion at such a young age is admirable something I wish I had then and a wish I hadn't skipped parts of this read in English class in 8th grade. I can see why a read around that age can help girls and boys in their maturing. Peter's religion is more along the lines of the religion I developed with his close mindedness of the Jews as the chosen people versus Anne's diverse respect for other ethnic groups like the Dutch. Hitler's belief that Jews couldn't be patriotic is deemed false by this book. They did but it was stripped from them.

The Diary of Anne Frank is a true story that takes place during World War 2. This story is about a teenage girl named Anne Frank and her family hiding from the Nazis in their hidden attic in their small home.
I think the best part of the book was when they celebrated Hanukkah while they were hiding. Anne got everyone in her family gifts even if they weren't the best gifts. I think this is the best part of the book because it shows that even if they are hiding from the Nazis, they are all still trying to stay happy and positive during these tragic times.
I would definitely recommend this book to a friend because it really helps people understand what it was like during World War 2 and how Jews hid from the Nazis.

I'm not sure how I feel about this book, on the one hand, it's always an important story to share, this time through the format of a play. However, I'm not entirely sure it really captured the essence of Anne's diary or the events of the Annex, and especially not of Anne's growth. It's very short- and it seemed the situations they chose to include were random or overly-condensed. It switches tone very quickly. Overall, I'm not sure- but always an important story.

This is the stage adaptation of the original story The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank, which follows Anne Frank and her family through Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. Anne and her family go into hiding with another Jewish family after her sister is summoned to a Nazi work camp, and she details their loving, nerve-wrecking, and disturbing history. Her attempt to live normally in a society that despises her and her family leaves her and her family in a Man vs Society conflict. As the Netherlands adjusted to German occupation, they adopted Nazi idealisms that led to Anne’s eventual demise in a camp. Students will not be able to relate to this type of suffering, but other moments in the play make Anne an empathetic, relatable character. Anne is middle school age, having crushes, fights with her sister, and regular family drama within the context of an irregular, horrid period of history. Students can become attached and feel for Anne’s struggles, making acting out the story as powerful as reading it. The darker, historical contexts are what ground this story in a Man vs. Society conflict, making it essential to pair this story with Gallagher’s “That is Disturbing!” strategy. Moments in the play reflect period attitudes and situations that can be uncomfortable to read or listen to. This strategy allows students to research a moment and reflect on what makes it disturbing, which mostly is the violent relations between the Nazis and Jewish people of the time. Students can gain both a historical understanding and respect for the endurance of Holocaust victims and survivors.

My middle school class and I read this adaptation way back in the 2000s. It was in one of those English textbooks that collected short stories or excerpts from bigger stories by various authors. I've yet to read the actual diary.

This adaptation is done in the form of a play or screenplay and was used as a basis for a play and later a movie in the 1950s. When my class read this, I was assigned all the lines of Otto Frank, Anne Frank's father, who survived the Holocaust. He was the only member of the Frank family to survive any of the atrocities.

It was a hard but necessary read.

This version of The Diary of Anne Frank allows students to engage in the text in a way that is different than just reading it to themselves individually. By acting or reading it aloud, this already powerful story of a young Jewish girl living in hiding during Hitler’s reign in Germany, is brought to life.
This story can serve as a way to talk about the pattern, or structure of plot. I think by listening to certain scenes read aloud, students will better understand the aspects of rising action and climax because these moments will be reflected in the reader’s voice. I would have students fill in a plot graphic in order to see that they understand which parts of the play fit into which part of plot structure.
After reading the play, I would use Gallagher’s strategy of “Burning Questions.” The Holocaust is something students often have a lot of questions about, so I think this strategy would be useful here. Working together as a class, students would brainstorm a list of questions about The Diary of Anne Frank. Then, in groups, they would choose one question (approved by me) that no other group already has. They will then research that question and record their findings. Later, each group would inform the class on what they found.

This book was really good, shows you what was going through their head while in hiding while also showing you how suddenly everything can end. The balance of the political views during the war, person feelings of people and their relationships evolving within time and showing the bravery they needed begins to show you the extent of what they went through during this time
