The Diary of Anne Frank is about the Holocaust that had captured Jews and brought them to concentration camps. The diary explains what it's like for these two families and Mr. dussel to live in a very cramped up space in an attic of a shop. The Diary explains the troubles they face and problems that are continuously happening. In the diary every one got to change into either a nice or not so nice person after two years of being cooped up in an attic.
One of my favorite parts was in the beginning. In the beginning Anne is all hyper and talkative towards the other family's. She was always having good comebacks when someone like Mr. Van Daan would say something not really nice. I liked how she'd speak her mind and didn't hide in a corner an coward, she would know what she wanted to say and say it. That what I liked about Anne the best, the girl who wasn't ever really afraid.
I would recommend this book to anyone that likes history or reading about what happened to someone a very long time ago. This book is a great read. When I first heard we had to read this book in class I just didn't want to give it a chance, but then when the fist few scene happened I instantly wanted to know what happens next. So if you prefer fiction fantasy books that reading this, I will say just give it a chance because its worth it. Don't judge a book by its cover.

Text to world connection:
This event is sad and horrific that is related to the real world and is similar to the civil rights movement in 1960. Both events involved discrimination and wanted to change the population to one race. During the civil rights, Whites had higher power over Blacks. During the Holocaust the Nazi had higher power over the Jews. Many people suffered and died from these events.

“The Frank family were Jews. They fled from Germany to Holland in 1933 to avoid the persecution of the Nazis, but in 1940 Holland was invaded and the persecution caught up with them again. The Jewish race was seen by the Nazi rulers as the enemies of Germany. The Jew was pictured on poster and propaganda sheet as the debaser of the 'purity' of the German race; every difficulty and evil was seen as the fault of the lews and the whole government machine was behind the branding and attacking of the Jews. Even children's books were written that declared:
‘The Jew is the devil in human form'. Hitler's last words before his death were to repeat the old message: I impose on the leadership and following of the nation the obligation to hold fast to the racial laws and to carry on unmerciful resistance to the world poisoner of all nations - international Jewry.”
- The Play of ‘The diary of Anne Frank’ by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett
.
.
I have read the diary of Anne Frank last few months so reading this play simply to gain at least new perspective of what Anne Frank has gone through. The play also demonstrated how talented and brilliant both Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett in capturing the emotions and the technicalities of what Anne Frank wrote in her diary. I don’t have to emphasise much as the content of the drama play is pretty much similar with the diary but via play, the audience can truly get the hanged of what at stakes, if they are loud, if they failed to compromise, if they don’t follow the rules. You can see how they tiptoeing around in their hidden place, calculating and worrying that someday people are going to find out. Thats what i get from pictures of the play that were attached in the boom. Overall, a short but important reading. Maybe, this will help you to get a bigger picture of her life and her self that you missed from her diary.

The Diary of Anne Frank: the play is a great way to teach younger students the Holocaust. This play is based of the Diary that Anne Frank wrote while in hiding and was changed into a play with the language simplified for a younger audience. The play is very effective for students learning because it is told for a young girls perspective and forces students to play different parts. This allows the students to gain insight into what they must have felt while in hiding and allows them to relate to someone who is their own age.
This text is a great way to get students thinking about right and wrong and what they would do in the different positions, the victims and the helpers. Before reading, an anticipation guide can be used with statements like "you should always tell the truth" and "I should always help those in need". Those two statements are critical when thinking about this text. If telling the truth is something you should always do, Mr Kraler and Miep should tell the Nazis that they are hiding them in the attic, on the other hand, if you should always help those in need they should continue to hide the Franks and the Van Danns and not tell the Nazis. The anticipation guide helps students realize that things are not always black and white and sometimes their values need to change when it comes to tricky situations.
With this text, Gallagher's I was a Witness strategy would be great because so many people witnessed the Holocaust, but many did not do anything. Students could brainstorm about a time they witnessed something, big or small, and write about what they saw.

Can you imagine being 14 and going into hiding from a anti-semitic tyrant? “The Diary of Anne Frank And Related Readings” written by McDougal Littel makes you think what it really was like. The book was based on the diary of a young Jewish girl, Anne Frank and her life in the holocaust. Things I enjoyed was how everything was very detailed about the beginning of Anne going into hiding and how her everyday life was. The book described every single person living with her, their characteristics, and their manners. Another thing I enjoyed about the book was at the end they also added more stories about other people's experiences during this time. On the other hand, I do wish they had more detail on Anne’s personality and how her dad dealt with his grief. Adding on, I wanted to learn more about what drove Anne’s father to publish her diary. The line that stuck to me was, “If you should find this diary, will you please keep it safe for me, because someday I hope…”. Overall, this book was amazing and truly recommended people to read it. It is the sad truth that millions like Anne had to go into hiding. It is utterly disciple and inhumane that someone can actually murder innocents by the mass and show no remorse.

Gahhh it’s so hard to rate anything related to Anne Frank. The poor girl didn’t know her diary was going to be published, so I feel like it’s unfair to rate it?

Nevertheless, the play version of her diary definitely gives a better picture of the tension, fear, and boredom in hiding in the Annex from the Nazis. You get to know each person a little better, and I think it gives a broader perspective of their behaviors.

The Diary of Anne Frank is a play by Frances Goodrich, and brings Anne's diary to life. Anne is thirteen when her diary begins in 1942, and she tells of what her experience was like being Jewish - and being in hiding - during World War II. Through the play, we see Anne's expeience in hiding, and how it affects her, her family members, and the other Jewish people in hiding with them. Although she and the others in hiding experience great hardship and distress, the play still shows how life pervails, even in a secret attic, and how indomitable the human spirit truly is. The Diary of Anne Frank gives hope to audiences, but doesn't spare them from the horrors of World War II and Anne's tragic fate.

I chose this play for my unit on conflict/struggle because of what a fantastic figure Anne Frank is for students who may be experiencing great conflicts and struggles in their own lives. Even though none of my students will be able to relate with Anne's experience exactly, my hope is that they can find her experience relatable, and remind them that - with what they're going through in their own lives - they're not alone. I also chose this play because of how personal it is with Anne's character in particular, and how it reveals how she got through her struggles without losing hope - up till the diary reaches a sudden end. This play has various types of conflict, among them Man vs. Self, Man vs. Man, and Man vs. Society. The strategy that I would want to use with students while reading this play would be "Most Important Word" from Beers, Chapter 8. This strategy asks students to find the most important word from a text, and provide the quote where they found their word. Students can then talk about their most important word, either in groups (which I would start with) or as a class (which I would end with). Students also fill out important plot information, such as the names of characters, the conflict (which we will focus on during discussion), main plot points, the setting, and the theme. I like that this strategy specifically asks kids to talk about the conflict of the story. I'm thinking that I can probably see if I can get students to make connectiosn between their "most important words" and the conflict of the story.

The Diary of Anne Frank is a published diary written by Anne Frank, a young girl in the Holocaust. The book begins with Anne leaving her home with her older sister and her parents to go to their hiding place from the Nazi's. They hide with another family, the Van Daans to avoid being captured, arrested, sent to a concentration camp, or even killed. They live in the secret annex for 2 years, from when she is 13 to 15. The book is filled with her real diary entries, which are very interesting to read and make it an amazing story line as well as a real and devastating piece of history. She tries to stay positive throughout the terrifying experiences while also having a relatable aspect and behaving as a normal teen girl (getting angry at her parents, talking about boyfriends, first kisses, crushes, etc.). I think that any teenage girl can understand her humor and realness which makes the book so much better. The most interesting part is to remember that the characters were all real people, and it is a really good opportunity to encourage you to do some research on people like the Van Daan family and the Frank family and their lives and stories. The book is about the terrors of the Holocaust, which gives it an eerie vibe at times, but the book is not necessarily scary on its own if you already know about the time period she wrote these entries in, and therefore I would recommend it for 12 and up. The setting is Amsterdam in the years 1942 to 1944. In summary, I loved the book and I think that you should definitely give it a try! I give it 5/5 stars.

Does anyone else feel weird saying you "really liked" books with horrific topics?
Anyhow, I cannot believe I have never read this before.
This young woman was an utter delight! So resilient, so dedicated, so bubbly and innocent, hopeful and smart. All that time writing and very little of it is about the atrocities happening all around them. I guess they were somewhat insulated only hearing stories of others intermittantly, but still, very little about their fear and so much about her hopes and dreams.
Makes you think... and mourn.
