This was a mandatory read, and yet I found myself actually liking the book. I’ll admit I’ve never read a play until now but everyone starts somewhere right? The book was short, easy read, and I found myself visualizing the play. Overall, it was good.

I went through a phase in middle school (like many kids that age) where I read a lot of books about the Holocaust. "Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl" was one of those, and I remember liking it, but it somehow didn't resonate as much of some of the others. I don't completely remember why, but I know at least part of it was feeling like there were too many tangents, and I just wanted to find out what happened to Anne and her family--in other words, the basic fact that it was a diary got in the way for me. At the school I'm at now, the 8th-grade textbook includes a copy of this play adaptation from the 1950s. After just finishing it, I can not only see why it won a Pulitzer prize, but I wish I would have discovered this version when I was younger. Because it's an interpretation made for the stage, it cuts out many of the slower sections, creates more of a dialogue between the characters, and frames the whole story as a flashback from the perspective of Mr. Frank as he's reading Anne's diary for the first time after returning to the secret annex. In other words, the structure highlighted the amazing story, rather than (in my opinion) encumbering it. We were able to read much of it aloud as a class, which got the kids more engaged, and the ending is even more heartbreaking because we're sharing the awful dramatic irony of the situation with Mr. Frank as he reads the entries. I definitely recommend this play and plan to teach this version in the future whenever I have the option.

Anne Frank was a book about WWII. I think it had a great concept but they made it difficult to read when Anne was sitting at the kitchen table she wrote in a dairy. The Franks lived in the attic of his dad's old warehouse with 4 other people Mr Van Dan, Mrs Van Dan, Peter, and Mr Dussel. Mr Dussel was a Jewish dentist and every one was just a Jew. The had to sit in silence during the day cause there were workers working down stairs.

I didn't like the story cause I thought it was really difficult to read when you read it by yourself cause of the format by having different characters. Its the book you read as a group in class with people reading different characters. And you had to pay close attention on notes cause if you just read and stopped in the middle of the scene you will forget where you were last at and what happened. Also it in first person I really like first person books.

You shouldn't read this book by yourself its a quick in class book where a person is a different character. It would be really difficult by yourself say you had to eat dinner you would forget what you last read. And its a first person book which makes it more difficult to read cause I like third person books a lot.

*SPOILERS* I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The way the characters were formed, its general organization, and word choice. It all combined to make a beautiful story. It really had a sense of the struggle and risk that was made in World War Two. It also had an amazing way of immersing you into the minds of Jews in the war. What really impressed me, was the way the characters started changing throughout the story, the longer and longer they were stuck up in that attic. World War Two was a very tough time for everyone, even for other countries knowing that this massacre of innocent people is happening. The way they had to ration food, not make loud noises, and stay hidden, is almost impossible. I say almost because they managed to do it for a very long time. The connection between them, as well as the anger between them, really made the story exponentially interesting. The best part in my opinion was when they were found and taken to the concentration camps. I know that may seem like a bad part, but look at it in a deeper sense. Anne was ready, confident, and not scared, and so was everyone else. They weren't afraid, or sad, or even angry. They accepted it, and stuck through it. Most of them, for example, Anne and Margot, sadly died in the concentration camps. That part, really spoke to me, and even inspired me. Amazing story, 5 out of 5 stars. Wow.

tThe Diary of Anne Frank-The Play is a play about a Jewish teen called Anne and her family and friends the Van Daans and a dentist Dussel, who go into hiding with the help of Miep and others after Nazis occupy the Netherlands. In the play, it talks about their day-to-day life in their hideout, called the Secret Annex. You also get to witness how people deal with being in such a cramped space with so many other people. You watch as they run into multiple close encounters and almost get found but barely escape detection. You also get to see how they react to hearing news about the war, like the D-Day landings and bombings in Amsterdam, which is where they are hidden. At the end of the play, they are found by the Nazis and taken to the camps. Everyone but Mr.Frank, Anne's father, dies and upon returning he finds Miep who gives him Anne's diary. Upon reading it, he was ashamed of Anne for believing,” people are really good at heart,” because of everything people put them through just because they were Jewish. What I like about this play is that it can be read with other people, allowing it to seem like you are there because it isn’t just your voice reading. I also liked how it showed how normal life could still be in hiding even with the amount of restrictions in place for them. On the other hand, I disliked how confused you can get if you aren't paying attention because of how it is set up. I also disliked how sudden certain events happened and how fast others seemed to go by. All in all, I think this is an educational play about what life was like not only for the Franks and friends, but also for other people who were in hiding at the time and I would rate this a 4 out of 5.

In the time of when the Nazis took over. In Amsterdam, above a work shop was an attic, it held the franks, the Van Daan's, and Mr. dussel, lots of drama had happened in two years time staying there and not being able to leave. They had gotten found and sent to concentration camps, only Otto Frank was still alive and he had found Anne's diary.
I say the best part of the book is when Peter and Anne go on there little 'date' in Peter's room. I say this because over everyone fighting and disagreeing it was nice to some sort of friendship between some people. It just broke the story up. In a good way.
I recommend this because I think aside from the little history lesson and a little drama. It teaches you that you could have had there life and be stuck like they had and died like they had. That you have a better life than they have during the time the Nazis took over to when they didn't. Even after the Nazi rule was over everyone was still all over the place. For example they had to find new homes they were depressed of their loved one's death. It goes to show how much you take your life for granted and all the nice thing we have, when we couldn't have them.

Diary of Anne Frank is about a young girl who was a Jew. Not only was she a Jew but her whole family were Jews. At this time the Germans were taking over and World War II was going on. The reason for all of this was Hitler. he was a very sick man. The Germans were capturing people who didn't meet their standards' the Jews weren't apart of their standards. if you didn't meet their standards or if you were a Jew then you got sent to a concentration camp. These camps were in horrible condition. If you went there and you weren't a strong man or woman or you were an elderly person or child then you were automatically sent off to die. The camps was were filled. Anne was lucky her family had a hiding spot. They hid in an attic where he father worked. The attic was packed with people. Anne wrote all about it in a dairy that she had received for her birthday. This was not only her diary it was best friend.

i enjoyed reading this book because it taught me all about the holocaust. I didn't know what the holocaust was until I read this book. It told me all about and everything I needed to know about it.

I recommend this story if you like learning about the past. If you like to learn about World War II then this is the book for you. It tells you everything you need to know.

I was Peter, Mrs. Van Daan, and the narrator. I haven't finished reading the diary, but I don't remember most of the things that happened there in the play. So 4 1/2 stars rounded up

This was a class book. We went through it very slowly, but I still enjoyed it. I’ve always thought that the Holocaust was such an interesting event in history, and i enjoy reading and learning about it. I guess the reason i gave this book 4 Stars was because it was a class book and we just moved so slow and it just made reading the book a little less enjoyable to read.

I actually never read THE DIARY OF A YOUNG GIRL but always wanted to. My grandma told me I couldn't read it until I was in 8th grade, and then..it had lost it's "allure". I got to teach the play this year with an amazing coteacher, and the play was so fun to watch the students interact with. It did a great job of keeping the reader engaged and wanting to know what happened next. It really hits home at the end how these were real people and a real story and i found it very moving.
