A fantastic abridgment with beautiful illustrations. The best version I’ve ever found. Great for older kids, young adults, and adults.

A good old classic from Mr Dickens, which I read because this is next on my nephew's reading list. Let us make everyday a Christmas Day and spread good cheer.

I love A Christmas Carol - the story is still effective 180 years after it was written - and Simon Prebble's narration is brilliant.

Another Christmas classic! I love Christmas and I've never understood why anyone could hate it! I loved the movie of this, but the book told the story just as well. The pictures were cute and kid friendly. I can see why this book is a classic! I hope that this story is told every year to folks who hate Christmas! I think this is great for lower level elementary readers.

This book is about a man called Ebenezer Scrooge, who is a mean and miserable miser. He doesn’t believe in all the good things Christmas promotes, such as joy, happiness and charity. He despised everyone and liked nobody. One night the ghost of his former business associate came to visit him and warned Scrooge that if he carried on being selfish he will spend eternity wearing chains that his guilt built. He warned Scrooge that three more spirits would visit him that night and that it would be his last chance to change.

The three spirits were the ghost of Christmas past, the ghost of Christmas present and the ghost of Christmas yet to come. All these ghosts showed him a short picture of his life and show the error of him valuing money over people, along with family values. At this point Scrooge is frightened and promises to change his ways. Towards the end of the story he is a happy man, who carries the joys of Christmas throughout the year and values his family.

I found reading this book very interesting as I am now able to appreciate the various themes of the book. As a child I vaguely remember reading the book, and reading it again now I truly enjoyed it. I believe this book would be suitable for KS2 children and has cross curricular links of study. The book can be used in Literacy, R.E, PHSE and History. There are several film productions available as well, with the Disney production being the most suitable for children, which I believe that they would equally enjoy.

In addition the story would allow children to think about the values of particular celebrations in their own religions/cultures as well as other children’s. It would also help them to appreciate it more as well as the values of happiness and kindness. These two being some of the goals teachers’ are trying to promote in their every day teaching.

Estos cuentos son una celebración de los valores navideños y una llamada a la reflexión sobre la humanidad y la empatía. Es una lectura clásica que nunca pasa de moda y que encanta a lectores de todas las edades.
