This book is about a small mouse that finds a red ripe strawberry. The narrator warns the mouse of the big hungry bear and how he loves strawberries. The narrator tries to scare the mouse by saying that the bear will do anything for a strawberry. The mouse tries several ways to hide and disguise the strawberry to keep it hidden from the bear. The end of the book leads you into a surprise that you are not expecting.

This book is very cute. I loved the illustrations! I enjoyed that the author leaves you in suspense on several of the pages, you often do not know what to expect next.

I think this book could be used when working on predictions. Since the author leaves you in suspense during the book, it would be a great time to have your students predict what will happen next.

The illustrations make the book. The story is a bit quirky, but that doesn't matter because the illustrations are adorable.

I received this book as a baby shower gift. It is a very cute, very insidious book. The pictures are hilarious, featuring a mouse doing ridiculous things because he is so afraid of the big bear that might come eat his strawberry. As others have said, the result of the very simple text is that the narrator has been making the mouse afraid all along in order to get half of the strawberry.

I know some people object to books like these (I'm also thinking of I Want My Hat Back) because they are so manipulative of the reader and do thrive on some fear, but I actually look forward to reading it with, and then explaining why it is so funny, to my little girl. I hope she finds mischief as funny as her parents, and grows smart enough not to be taken in by it.

Such a fun read aloud for a group! A big hungry bear is coming for that luscious, red, ripe strawberry that you just picked. What should you do?! Lucky for you, the mouse in this story knows just the trick ;) If you enjoy this book- also check out Wood's book "Merry Christmas Big Hungry Bear."

My 5-yo daughter loved this story so much when I read it to her, as did I love reading it. The artwork is so impressive and the character's expressions are flawless. As part of her reading diary at big school, she's using this book to help her learn to read so that she can read more books by herself and at her level, not the level that daddy sets on the bed-time reading!

This is a very cute little book. Vivid illustrations, simple but fun storyline. It is the only book that my nine-month-old and two-year-old both really love right now. My older child can recite the whole thing and my younger child finds the "BOOM BOOM BOOM" part to be hilarious. I think that they would both give it five stars!

Although I have enjoyed reading it, I would have to give it a lesser rating, and here's why. At an age when she is learning the nuances of seemingly everything and is absorbing every ideology that we put in front of her, I feel that this book is not the best model for my toddler to learn from. The basis of the storyline is fear and deception. It's cute, but it's still fear and deception. The whole premise of the book is that the narrator is warning the mouse that the big hungry bear is coming to eat the mouse's strawberry... so the mouse should share it with the narrator! It's cute and happy, but ultimately it seems that there really isn't a big hungry bear... there is just a hungry narrator wanting a share of the mouse's food, and choosing not to go about getting it honestly.

I realize that might seem like I'm reading into it too much, but I am just not comfortable with any form of deception being encouraged in the books that we read to our children.

I love the way the reader is talking to the mouse in this story, it makes it interactive and fun. The illustrations are adorable and I really wanted that strawberry. A great story-time pick!
