Sean has taken a new liking to a book he's had for a while, The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear. We had to read it quite a few times last night. Fortunately it's rather short. I think he likes the threat of the bear and the deep booming voice Ian uses when the narrator is describing the bear.

Only thing better would have been if the narrator turned out to be a bear.

Cute story about a mouse in its attempt to save a strawberry from a hungry bear! The illustrations are sweet, and there's lots of booming and sniffing and gobbling you can do to make this really fun for kids.

I sort of liked the story thanks to the expressive pantomime of the mouse. But then my wife pointed out that the narrator was a con artist using demagoguery to stoke fear in the mouse of a hypothetical enemy in order to appropriate half its food supplies after it had done all the harvesting work. That's a messed up lesson to pass on to children.

Despite the fact that I KNOW I had a copy for my second graders, I've never read this book. And it is cute, cute, cute! A mouse finds a delicious red strawberry. The narrator warns the mouse that bears loooove strawberries and are sure to find it, no matter what you do. Finally, the mouse and the narrator share the strawberry and all's well that ends well.

A beautifully illustrated picture book. A wonderful bedtime book and a great choice for preschool students.

I remember this book from my early childhood, which says a lot for the book itself. I came across it in a lecture at university and couldn't believe it was still in print and the illustrations are as colourful and sumptuous as they always were.

The story revolves around a mouse and his unwillingness to share any of his wonderful ripe strawberry. the story would be ideal to read to a class because the illustrations are bold, colourful and humorous.
The stories themes are numerous. This could be used as a stimulus for discussions around greed and sharing.
the language is clear and the characters are engaging for younger children.

Overall a classroom must have for the bookshelves!

I really enjoy this book it was one of my favorites as a child. I really like how the book is as if we are talking to the mouse and he responds to what we are saying. The pictures in here are great and go along perfectly with the story. The book also has some twisted story about sharing even though the author waited the entire book to suggest sharing the strawberry. I think students will really enjoy this book and think it is silly. It also has good conversation starters like asking what their favorite fruit is or if they have ever liked something so much they would lock it up in chains or disguise it to keep it from getting stolen.

Who can resist the amazing expressions that are captured on the mouse's face? Such a cute book to interact with young children!

A solid level 1 reading book for children that all ages can enjoy. A cute story that had all three of my children engaged and wondering how it would end. The illustrations are beautiful, big, and colorful, which made it a particular enjoyment for me too. A good family read that I can see us reading again in the future.
