This is an adorable story, with beautiful, expressive illustrations. A little mouse is happily picking a large, red, ripe strawberry, but becomes worried when the unseen narrator tells him about a big hungry bear who loves to eat strawberries. The mouse tries ways to hide the berry but the narrator gives him no hope.. unless he does one thing in particular to keep it from the bear. Such a cute and funny story. Clever narrator.
I really enjoyed this book.

Kids liked it, but I am a little leery of the message it sends.

Okay. WHY is this book so gosh-darn-cute!? It is SO simple. But there is something undeniably charming about Wood & Wood--the story just zips along, goes SO perfectly with the illustrations--it is a great read-aloud as the narrator is always talking directly to the little mouse.

My daughter received this book for her birthday last week and absolutely loves it. The story is told as if the reader is talking directly to the mouse in the story. I also love that it's a book I don't mind reading over and over since that's often what my daughter wants.

Easily adaptable to a short skit or simple puppet show, the large, colorful pictures make this a story time favorite. Wear mouse ears of Groucho-glasses and share a bowl of strawberries afterwards.

Hot DOG this book is so good. Narrator speaking directly to the character, dreamy illustrations with visual jokes, and trickery! Oscar already loves this one and I can’t wait until he’s wise enough to get the rouse. The board book edition omits end papers and title/dedication/copyright pages which is a move I appreciate—get to the story! And fuck that strawberry looks delicious.

I love this story and the illustrations. It is a great book for imagination because you don't actually ever see the bear in the story. I also love how the story is written like the reader is talking to the mouse.

SMART - interesting experience, with my 1st grade reader. Since I don't read Spanish, I told her we'd have to make up a story to go along with the pictures. She participated in ways that I haven't seen before (nice); she actually spoke words. She's more or less non-verbal with me usually. A nice way to end the reading program.

The red ripe strawberry is the main reason I wanted to read this book! Oh my, a delicious story. Beautifully illustrated.

I know this book by heart as my 1 year old absolutely adores it. We read every day and she never grows tired of it. Every time she sees the plate of cookies, she lets out a very convincing Mmmmmmmm that I could just eat up with a spoon. Since she loves it so much it has become one of my favorites too. It also has great illustrations like all of the Woods' books.
