This book took me trouble to go through, as It delve deep into the fear or being assertive. This is especialy through when you are in Asia and being assertive or too commanding is not an encouraging trait. However as after I read this book, I found out that being assertive its actually good, it helps to build self confidence and also respect from your circle of friends or those who you interact with.

In being assertive, I learned that shouting on top of your lungs does not count as assertive, that's actually aggressive.

Or black mailing someone with emotional demands, that's not assertive That would just make others abhor you further.

Interestingly the author says that, in life you are naturally and positively assertive when you have a proper work life/balance. Those balance are: family, mental, finance, fitness/health,work.

Definitely even though its digress a bit, but for sure family matters, as even though you have all the wealth in the world, but when your family and health is gone. Everything is lost.

On a final note, see every interaction with someone as a fulfilling time to build a lasting relationship, because each opportunity is a chance to grow, learn and progress.

This book overall, lacks of real relevance, but does this provide eternal advice. Good for leaders to read this type of books.

Livro indicado para que tem de liderar ou gerir "pessoas". Pena que muitos dos nossos líderes não o ponham em prática!

Similiar to most of Dale Carnegie's book and a good refresher. Skill and human attitude to be assertive in our doings.

I read this as part of my then study of leadership and management. I read it because of the Dale Carnegie link but I did get some hints out of in. It is always good to take in some new ideas about management.

This book was really good. It teaches you how to deal with all kinds of people. You need to figure out what kind of person they are and then know how to talk to them successfully. These are all great skills to have. There are many difficult people to deal with.

The 5 Essential People Skills are all related to being assertive. It is one of those books that expect you to write in or mark up the book. It is one of the actions that I decided to never do to my books, even if it makes them more personal.

I don’t know if the book is a rehash of other information or not. There isn’t really a lot to say about this book beyond all of that.

Good practical advice, but a bit overly simplistic at this point in my career.

It's a good starting point on acquiring the essential people skills that you need both in your business life and your day by day life. In that sens it does its job, but I was not impressed. It's not a light book so to speak, but it describes mostly common sense principles that you basically know if you have read one or two books on this topic.

I'm deeply offended that Dale Carnegie's name is on this book. The only reason why I can tolerate this, its because it is actually a very, very poor re-writing of How To Win Friends and Influence People. More than half of this book is just the author, whoever it is, trying to "adapt" the legendary Dale Carnegie's book to our times. An completely unnecessary attempt, as the average reader will be able to adapt the original book to his current situation (actually, that's what makes Carnegie's book a true masterpiece).

Not to mention some ideas that I do not feel that concord with Carnegie's legacy at all. I can only remember of a couple of pages that managed to give me a meaningful message.

Don't waste your time with this. It would be much more valuable just to read again How To Win Friends and Influence People. That one is some piece of book. But this one... just no.
